Re: Community Thread IX
Hey guys, as some of may know, I posted awhile back ago about how my dog was sick. Well this morning he passed away, and I'm obviously having trouble dealing with it. My dog had been having lung problems (possibly cancer), leg problems and possibly a heart condition. He had been crying quite often recently, like he was in a lot of pain. So before I was going to go to school today, I saw that he was crying again, so I figured I'd let him out in the backyard and he would relax a bit. So I see him outside not doing anything, so I figure I'll go outside and play around with him a bit, you know run around and stuff just to get him happy and all. So he's barking and we're running around, then suddenly, he just spun around, collapsed, and probably had a seizure. I was the last person to be with him when he was conscious. I'm just having a hard time thinking that I am responsible for this. On one hand I can look at it that perhaps I gave him the last joys of his life, running around and being like his old self again (he had been really depressed and in pain for awhile) and he might have passed on sooner then later, but I can't help but think that if I didn't let him out and play with him, he'd still be here right now. I just feel sick right now, I had to go in, tell my brother my dog has collapsed, he told me to wait inside, he didn't want me to see what was going on, and then I hear him cry out his name. I just can't imagine getting though days without him. His name was Roger, he had been with my family and me for 10 years and now he's just gone. Any advice from you guys, I really don't see how I can get over this.

Re: Community Thread IX
that's tough, and you didn't do anything wrong and none of it was your fault. Roger sounds like he was in really tough shape and didn't have much longer to live. It was nice of you to hang around with him at the end. You'd feel worse if you had just left and went to school. You just need time, eventually you'll get past it

Odd timing- today on the way to work I was thinking about my Grandfather who died years back and how they had him all medicated and on support. I thought to myself: I wanna go out in one big bang. No lengthy hospital stays, meds, visits, or anything. You did the right thing and if your dog actually wanted to go out and play... damn if that's not how he wanted to go.
Don't feel Guilt... be proud. It's tough to lose a friend and dogs are some of the most worthy friends. They only get a short while with us so we're doomed to watch them go again and again and none can be replaced even if an awesome dog follows. It's an odd relationship.
if you ever feel up to finding yourself another friend I'd encourage you to go for one that really needs a home and not feed into the breeders. Too many good dogs need homes be it puppies or older. Adoption is the way to go.
Raise a glass to friends lost.

Re: Community Thread IX
Hey man, sorry to hear about your dog. Something about these past few months reeks of hell. I wouldn't feel bad about feeling guilty though, DD's got it right.
Sorry to have missed some of you guys in L.A. I just had a few days. It was exactly what I needed in my life right now. Good times, seeing old and new friends, hitting up old spots, discovering new ones, it's crazy how L.A. is so different and the same.
Funny, it snowed the morning I got back - I left L.A. when it was something like 80.
Anyways, happy bday Tony. Hope you have a good time - safely! Tequila has always brought consequences. 39 young, man.
Nice to see you around Verb, Sofa King.

So... the verdict is in...
I'm goin', goin', back back, to Cali Cali!
I found out Thursday that I matched into a surgical residency program in Los Angeles! After all these long years on the east coast, this LA boy is finally going home!!! I'm actually moving out of Boston this week.
Let me tell you, there are few things as satisfying as buying a ONE WAY TICKET back home.

Haven't checked this thread in a couple days, but happy birthday man! Eh, you're allowed to get wasted once in a blue moon.

KB8MVP.. It's a tough situation. I have a dog named Rocky, he's a boxer, and he's turning 11 in June. I know things are going to be taking a turn for the worse soon enough. He's been my best friend since I was 8 years old and I got no shame in the world saying that. I know it's probably the same way with you.
Don't feel guilty at all man. He had his last moments with the person he loves, having fun. Take pride in that. In the mean time, try to keep yourself busy. Unfortunately, life moves on. You know what you should do? Go on a mission and try to find all the pictures of your dog that you can. Cut them out, put them together and frame it. That's something that you can have and keep forever to always remember.
Keep your head up, man.

Without a doubt, my dog was my best friend, had him since I was 7. What makes it even harder is that since today is my birthday, it happened only a few days before, so it just adds to it. The day after he passed away, me and my family had already gone on and tried to find as many pictures we have of him. We have a nice album now, they bring back good memories and ease the pain a bit, it's just rough walking into my room and expecting him to be there and then remembering that he's gone. I'm sure your dog will be fine, mine had a lot going wrong for him, it was bound to happen. I wish all the best for you and your dog, take good care of him and cherish every minute you spend with him.

Sorry to hear about your dog KB8MVP. Like others have said, don't feel responsible for what happened. He spent his time with the person he loved most. Keep your head up, bro.
Sed, that's awesome, man. After I'm done all my school up here, I hope to move to LA or the surrounding area, haha.
Tony, sorry I'm late but Happy Birthday! Good to hear your night went well.
I'm stoked. Just talked to my academic advisor and I no longer have to take Chem in the spring term. Wooo! Now I can make that money money (or volunteer, lol). Hopefully next spring/summer I'll be able to make a trip down to LA.
