Its understandable that they would be more enamored with Fultz's game over Ball's, but man the former's personality just seems so flaccid.

And this matters how if he becomes the best guard in the league in 5 years?

I'm interested in knowing how much weight they put into character/personality and off-court behavior during their player evaluations. Lonzo's stock is always in question due to off-court factors (Lavar) to the point where discussing his actual talent becomes secondary at times.

Whereas for Fultz, we recognize his talent and seem to completely disregard his personality, or lack thereof.

Similarly with Jackson, who many have suggested can be a versatile leader on-court, but disregard that he has assault and battery charges on his resume.

What is a bit interesting here on the conspiracy theory level around the Philly/Celtic rumor is that If Danny threatens to move back to 3, could he get a last second workout from Ball and that is really what he wants to see to make his decision at #1?

The only sports news source you can respect.

Of course it's this time a year Jason McLaed usually perks up with the real deal insider stuff.

No joke when I saw all the talk about smoke screens yesterday in this thread I hit google looking for his twitter to post into the thread. I kept spelling it McCloud and McLeod.

Yeah it's like Woj... can't spell either of their names... Jason needs a nickname like Mc-Lead

If it's Jackson they want, we should pick him up and force the Celtics to play chicken.

Ball or Fultz at the #2. Let's not overthink this.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19657497/with-lavar-ball-attendance-lonzo-ball-second-workout-los-angeles-lakers

"At an unspecified location in the Los Angeles area near his home, Ball did his normal on-court routine, ran hills and lifted weights, showing the team's brass how he conditions and getting some face-to-face time. Ball's outspoken father, LaVar Ball, who had not been invited to Lonzo's first workout at the Lakers' facility in El Segundo on June 7, was present for Friday's workout."

"According to Spectrum Sports Net, Magic Johnson, president of basketball operations, and general manager Rob Pelinka were the only representatives of the Lakers to attend Friday's workout."

A source told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that Friday's workout was "solid."

D'Angelo Russell is absolutely worth this year's #3 +#28 ... a different year maybe not.

Recent # 3 lottery selections:
2016 Jaylen Brown
2015 Jahlil Okafor
2014 Embiid
2013 Otto Porter
2012 Bradley Beal
2011 Enes Kanter
2010 Derek Favors
2009 James Harden
2008 OJ Mayo
2007 Al Horford
2006 Adam Morrison lol
2005 Deron Williams
2004 Ben Gordon

As you can see there's some talent but the 3rd pick is far from any sort guarantee. At this point D'Angelo Russell is on a career path to be better than most of the players taken 3rd over the last thirteen years.

Yeah you make a good point. I guess if your Philly, you have to wonder if he fits well with Simmons.

I also think there was some comparison made among some of the top guards in the league like CP3, Westbrook and some others in which Russel's #s actually look really good in comparison to all those players at Russel's age.

yes he does and your name change is not fooling anyone, so I suggest when your RealGM ban is hanging by a thread, don't try to rile up the lakers board of all places.

Not trying to rile anyone up at all, was merely asking mate. I actually like Russel more than most non Lakers fans do.

I'll show myself out as I seem to have given the wrong impression.

Celtics and Sixers take Fultz and Jackson in some order.

We trade down to 4 (Phx) using the 2 and Moz. Take Fox at 4. Phx takes Ball at 2.

Fox/Ennis
Russell/Clarkson/Nwaba
Ingram/Brewer/Young*
Randle/Nance/Deng
Zubac/Black/Robinson

28th pick?

The bolded names (Deron Williams in his prime) are why the Sixers say no in my opinion. The point of picking that high in the draft is to get that one franchise-level guy. It's certainly a crap-shoot and teams are vastly more likely to not get that guy picking 3rd. But, given the bolded names above (yes, Deron Williams was a franchise PG in his prime) a team has a ~23% of getting that guy.

Thus, the operative question is whether a GM thinks that DLo has maxed out. Some think he has. Generally, players make that leap from year one to year two. That does't mean that players who do make that jump become All-Stars in year two, but rather it means one can see star potential in those players (of course there are always outliers). A lot of people on this board thought that DLo would make that proverbial jump this past year, but he didn't. I think what GMs think about DLo is that he's a guy that can get you 15-20pts. Makes poor decisions with the ball/turnover prone. Off court distraction. Minimal effort on the defensive end. Not a leader, a kind of "I'm going to get my 15-20 points and I'm good" type player. And, he does not contribute to wining basketball. As such, if were under the impression that DLo has maxed out his potential, I'd much rather keep the 3rd pick and hopefully get a franchise guy (~23% chance).

Of course, the foregoing analysis hinges upon whether one thinks hat DLo has maxed out. Personally, I'm still on the fence. On the one hand, he's still very young. But, on the other, I don't project a lot more growth from him as he's already a really skilled player with below-average athleticism. Could he improve his shot, sure. But, he doesn't have the quickness to really ever be a plus defender, and he has never shown any ability to get to the free-throw line. I think he's just going to be a low-impact 15-20 point scorer in the NBA. I hope I'm wrong.

Not much news on the Lonzo-Magic+Pelinka visit today. Guess we know who the leakers aren't.

Just the ones from reporters using his 'tired' comments against him.

I get the feeling we're picking Ball at #2. I wonder what we're doing with the 28th.
