This would sorta nullify the main reason Butler went to Miami (to be the man on his team). Westbrook is not taking a backseat to anyone... Butler is very similar. These are two of the biggest alphas in the entire league. I really don't see how these two can coexist for more than a few months. Miami would be making a huge mistake if they trade for Westbrook.

I think Westbrook wants to reunite with KD.
Since the 1976 merger LAL 11, CHI 6, BOS 6, SAS 5, GSW 4

PG: Luka / Vincent / Smith
SG: Reaves / Knecht / Bronny
SF: Smart / LaRavia / Thiero
PF: Bron / Rui / Vando / Timmee
C: Ayton / Hayes / Kleber

I think Westbrook wants to be on our team, because his 'lone wolf/team built around him' approach was an utter failure, and he just cares about getting as many rings as he can before he retires...
I think he's pissed at the league and just wants to win as easy as possible... And he'll look around for the best team than might be able to swing a trade for him.
Plus we'll probably get the hometown nod, and I doubt he'll want to play with PG again...
So LAL/GSW/Brook/Houston/Denver... Probably in that order... I don't think Phily would break up that team to acquire him...

Begs the question, do we want him here? I don’t.

As much as I like his highlights and his killer instinct and competitive fire and so on, we don’t need him as much as we do a cheaper role player like Iggy.

LBJ can handle the offensive initiation. So can AD who handles like a guard. So can Rondo and Caruso. DMC is a good passer. So is Kuzma. Westbrook playing 1 on 5 with that supporting cast would be an idiotic fit on the surface.

Westbrook’s game is going to fall off a cliff as his athleticism wanes. Have always liked his competitiveness but he makes Lonzo look like Steph Curry.

Not saying we can... I'm just saying I think if we could, he'd jump at it... That his attitude about joining up with other stars has likely changed, and I don't think Brooklyn is his preferred fit...

That said, due to the nature of the 2 year contracts most of our guys signed, we can trade them either before they're officially signed or after the moratorium...

So we could trade Green and Kuzma, for example... And maybe add another recent signing and picks to make it all work...

But like I said, it's not something I expect us to do, just that I think Westbrook would go for it, if we could...

Yep, and I believe if we're seeing it, so are potential trade partners... I don't think the market for Westbrook is that great despite his super-star status...
Teams like Houston will be all over it, but I don't think he'll draw anywhere near the package AD and Kawhi did...

Wish we had the cap space and draft picks to go after Jeremy Grant. He shot nearly 40% from three this past season, he's a springy long defender, and a pretty good finisher around the rim...we could have really used his young legs.

so where does the narrative of a chance on a rental stand now?
PG choosing the Thunder after what was believed to be a one year rental that paid off big for OKC, but then loosing him anyway and the Raptors choosing to rent KL for a year delivering a championship but still loosing him in the end. is there a lesson here? and what is it? where do you stand?

Following up on Russ, I knew he was getting up there, but didn't realize he's gonna be 31 this fall. Between that, his playing style and the fact he's got another $170 million coming to him over the next four years -- with a 15 pct trade kicker, no less -- I just don't see any way OKC can move him. I don't go to Deadspin for serious basketball analysis, but one of their writers speculated that they're probably going to have to pay some of his salary AND sweeten the pot with a few picks to make it happen. I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility.

He holds a lot of power with that trade kicker... He'll almost certainly get traded to whatever team he's willing to waive the kicker for... Given what I expect the market to be for him... IE: Contenders who are capped out and light on assets... That kicker is going to be crucial.

I see 1 or maybe 2 teams making a play for Russ. I think Miami would be a disaster fit-wise with Butler. I don't see a scenario in which he's traded to Houston. It's not like OKC would have any interest in Cp3.

I could see a team like Detroit making a play for him. I doubt the Knicks are truly interested.

To be fair Westbrook for Russell could work in their favor if they could get it done. It may teach him to play the right way if he had Steph, Klay, and Dray teaching him.

I almost wonder what Russ could accomplish under Pop too? Drill the IQ into him and upgrade from Derozan

Westbrook with Bron and Davis...... at some point you need guys like Kuzma and other gap fillers on a team over another alpha chucker with delusions of grandeur. I can't think of a worse fit for our core
