yeah there are a lot of camp grounds along the river. There were a lot of other groups there. We ran into some UNLV and UCSB students. There are also a lot of hot springs everywhere. ranging from lukewarm water to boiling water where I could only tolerate about five minutes before having to get out.

Unfortunately no. We only stayed there overnight to sleep and just went up the dunes and stayed there for an hour or two before we headed back to Santa Cruz. We stopped by Vegas to eat, but just that lol.
Hadnt been there since I was a kid.

Thanks guys. I'll be attending the University of Nevada starting this fall; they're currently the 24th best part time MBA program in the country.

Re: CT LVII: Sponsored by the Comm Thread's Redemption
the REAL problem is that we have these crazy right wing nutjobs starting these stupid movements like the tea party cuz they think the liberal left is the one to blame and are going to take their "liberty" from them (ie the pro gun, anti abortion people). what they dont realize is that both parties are to blame, and that really the only way to change things is to not support either party. third party all the way brah.
of course nobody takes this stuff seriously other than old people, since kids our age dont really vote. things will remain status quo until **** really hits the fan, probably not in our lifetime, and then what does it really matter cuz we'll be dead AMIRITE

That still doesn't make sense as to why education is so freaking expensive. If your college education costs 1/5th of your parent's retirement funds, then there's something very wrong here. This assuming you have a single earning parent and no more than one child.

If you guys want to blame someone for college being so expensive, blame Reagan.

Of course it does. The people that are most effected by student loans are also the ones least likely to vote. Obviously the views of younger people are less represented cuz they don't actually do anything

Didn't the democrats just win an election by relaxing rules on student loan forgiveness? Also its not like the students are the only people affected by the loans, the parents who contribute to students' education are mid 40s - 50s and they are a big part of the electorate.
Yet we are only still arguing the fact that student loans are depressing yet the main cause of the loan is not being discussed, which is the outrageous college expenses when compared to other nations.

like i said, the democrats dont really care about that. the republicans counter that public universities shouldnt exist and should be made private, so they will have to be competitive and meet demands, but that doesnt really make sense either. if you want change you cant vote for one of the two major parties.
see states have been cutting the budget for higher education for quite some time now, and in exchange for taking less money from the government, they are given more autonomy to set their own tuition prices. thats really the issue. and because the demand to get into universities is so high, and people, especially foreigners, are willing to pay 4x the price for tuition, then you will get outrageous prices like youre seeing right now.
i mean to me, the obvious answer is to make universities almost completely funded by the government. all of our discretionary spending should be going to education. and then when they are pretty much owned by the government, these institutions wont be able to jack up their prices sky high. right now were in some kind of limbo where they get federal aid but not enough to make them do anything about tuition.

Re: CT LVII: Sponsored by the Comm Thread's Redemption
It's not just a College problem... Our public high schools are so focused on standardized testing, they aren't providing kids with the basic targeted knowledge they need to make informed decisions about courses of study...
Kids think graduating with a high GPA and getting accepted to a cool school is the ultimate goal and don't really formulate an education plan until the second or 3rd year in college. By then, foreign students have left them in the dust.
On top of that, the lack of a plan ends up costing the kids and their parents more and a lot of kids end up falling into a field that they didn't really choose but chose them... And ultimately end up clueless and in a difficult position as far as being a valued commodity in the job market. Which in turn means they don't have the money to pay back the loans.
Even people with flashy degrees end up without a plan or focus in the job market... They generally start out in a better position, but soon find there's still a lot of work to do to position them in a comfortable niche.
Our parents and grandparents used to go to College to learn how to be someone in a particular career. Their experience was targeted and they stayed focused on that goal and when they got their diploma, they were viewed as being qualified for that career.
Kids today go to schools that are focused on expanding kids minds and broadening their horizons... Which is good as long as it results in competitive, marketable skills in the end, and doesn't put them in a compromised position financially. So that they can compete with kids from other countries that are completing their education cheaper and can therefor afford to take lower paying jobs.
