check out record and also players on the roster for each year. Monty actually had two good seasons where he had almost NO talent. Look for yourself. Meanwhile Lue was gifted a gelled unit with allstars and the best player in the league.

Not really a fan of this supposed two horse race, but I think I prefer Monty

Fair enough,
Monty's first year, his team won 46 games, that was great, he did it with CP3, David West (19pts,8rebs), Ariza and a healthy Emeka Okafor 10pts,10rebs/2 blocks for 74 games. They lost to the very tired Lakers in the first round, got swept by Dallas after.
The following year Monty loses CP3 and they win 21 games. Losing Paul was huge, but so did Thibs losing Rose for like 2 years, Rivers losing also Paul, Stevens loses Kyrie etc and their record wasn't that bad relatively speaking.
year 3, he gets the 19 yr old AD(yes, he might be still a bit raw) to play with Vazquez, Anderson, Gordon, they win 27 games.
That is not good IMO. 28TH defensive rating(3rd year). Luke Walton after one year, improved the Lakers from 30th to 12 best and even retained that ranking this season with major injuries and trade rumors chaos and yes with Lebron playing 55 games-His former team sucked in defense.
The following year, Monty's team won just 34 games with the 2nd year AD, Gordon, Tyreke Evans and also had defensive minded Jrue Holiday for 34 games, their Defensive ranking, still a freaking low 27th in the league.
I am not saying Monty is a bad coach, He had his share of problems, professional and both emotional and family. The question is, Is Monty really considered a big upgrade over Luke Walton?
like the big Tuna Bill Parcell said, YOU ARE WHAT YOUR RECORD SAY YOU ARE.

all good points, I totally didn't notice Paul on that roster

Also not trying to say Monty is a good coaching option, but I do wonder how Lue would have done with those teams.

It’s going to be impossible to say but for me itst very hard to ignore the fact that Lue’s team was still 5th best in ORTG even losing Kyrie for an injured Thomas. Now was it more because of Lebron? Or a combination of being in the weak East?
It also helped their cause that they were still top 10 in 3pt shooting even when they lost Kyrie.
Ty is no magician but it’s not like he made a ton if mistakes before. His former team not being good on defense is fair but it’s not like he had a Jrue Holiday at his disposal.

The job Monty Williams did in New Orleans looks better by the day with the hindsight of what Gentry has been able to do. He seems to be a young coach with ability to relate to players, some conviction of how to go about his business and more importantly experience of apprenticeship under some really good coaches. I'd be happy with him.

I’m just glad we are actually interviewing people and going through a real hiring process instead of picking the first person who walks through the door

I think Lue is coaching with the Lakers next year, but I have a feeling it might be as a lead assistant. I could see maybe Monty as HC with Lue as Associate HC.

I'm all for the least bad option here... Just tell me who that is and I'm on board...

Feels like the early money's on Juwan Howard... I feel like he's the right guy to suck less than the other guys.

why couldn't have kept Luke as an assistant or something else in Laker land until bron bron goes ? I'm kinda mad his gone as I've always like him - got a feeling he'll be taking kings to playoffs in a year or 2/3

We dont need a president of basketball ops. Clearly Lebron took the job.

Bronny may be here for 3 more seasons (current contract) plus a couple more years on a Farewell Tour. We should be happy for Luke, because he has a great opportunity in Sacramento to grow with their young core. Hield and Fox, dynamic duo backcourt.

Someone has to ask why all candidates are black and why LeBron gets away with that preference if indeed it’s him. Messina seems the strongest

The stench of Messina from his prior stint with the Lakers Mike Brown coaching staff never seemed to wash away in a lot of our heads I think. But he's been under Poppovich for a while now, so I've warmed to him a little. I just think Lebron would destroy him like he destroyed Blatt. Someone with prior NBA head coach experience is vital right now.

None of three coaches are championship caliber who can take the team to NBA finals. Tyron Lue was successful because of leBron.
With an aging lebron I am not sure if any one of them are the right answer. They are all good for a young team but not a team trying to win championship.

I'm on board with Howard. Comes from the Spoelstra/Riley tree. I think he's got tremendous potential as a coach. This is the guy.

I think they're in for a regress next season. They had Cousins and he was infinitely better than Fox and they still couldn't field a proper team around him. They're merely repeating the same mistakes over and over.

First by out of nowhere firing Malone years ago. Now he's one of the elite coaches in the NBA. Now they fire Joerger. Who was the best thing since Malone. This doesn't get nearly the media attention but it should. Anytime they get anything good they screw it up. Like clockwork.

LeBron in general associates himself with that. His agen, his business manager, his friends, his barber, his chef etc are black.

I’ve never minded it because I always thought it was his way of giving back to the black community with employment opportunities.

But sure, sometimes it does leave out more qualified white coaches.

As for him “getting away with it”, racism (or reverse racism) against white ethnicity is generally accepted and tolerated in today’s society.

For those hating on Tyronn Lue-

I think for as long as we have Lebron, we need to cater to what he wants. He's won rings. He has 2 years left on his contract. That gives us a 2 year window to scramble and get something done, because the 3rd year is a player option and he can bounce if he wants to.

Lebron isn't the type of player to be coached by many. The ones that could possibly coach him are taken. Lue is the best option because he's had success with Lebron regardless of him being a puppet or not. For as long as Lebron is here, I think the front office should sacrifice to him.

Lebron, along with Klutch Sports, are also our best recruiters. Im not depending on Jeanie anymore, and I'm definitely not on the Pelinka wagon. He's not getting anything done. If we get another star player, it'll be because of Lebron and Klutch Sports making a pitch, not our FO. That said- for as long as Lebron is here, we should cater to him the best we can and see if we can get some wins.

On 710 John Ireland flat out stated that an executive told him the next coach would be black. They then went on about Lebrons social stances.

We arent interviewing any other coaches.

Would you feel comfortable riding a plane finding out that the person operating it have never been the head pilot before?
Yes it's great if it works out. Ainge feels like a genius when he hired Stevens, Theres also Spoelstra, Snyder (great situation there at Utah), Kerr (coaching 4 HOFS) etc.
But there's also guys like Earl Watson, Kidd, Hoiberg, Bickerstaff etc etc.
Yes, Hiring re-threads may not work too, just like Kidd, Byron Scott(did good with HOF's ,bad without them) and Gentry (bad everywhere as HC)so you have to do diligent homework and take everything in context.
Coach Bud, Stotts (coached Hawks and Bucks), Carlisle (actwon 50 games at Detroit), Malone(really good with Kings), MacMillan (decent job at Portland)have been doing pretty well too.
One positive sign for Howard for me is that he has stayed employed by Riley the past 5 years or so. Pat has been known to quickly relieve incompetent staff before.
