Ramona on 710 Espn insists that everything she’s heard is that there’s no one else coming, that Rob is Jeanie’s guy.
Her own personal opinion, without source, is that this rumor benefits the Lakers by calming the fans down for the time being even if this imaginary person ends up not existing.

Sounds so dumb it is probably true.

Silliness. So Ramona’s logic is that Jeanie and Rob are so naive (perhaps dense even) to believe that lying short term to the fans will “calm” them? That’s the logic here by Ramona?

They haven't a clue of the media **** storm that's coming for them if the Lakers don't land a max fa and the media day opens with Rob quoting from The Alchemist or some other 3rd tier book.

I totally believe Ramona... I just totally hope the other reports are true too.
And also "Jeanie's guy..."
Obvious statement is obvious...

Never worked with the cap, doesn’t have a background in analytics, never worked with agents, never negotiated any trades, no experience in building a team.
With everything that’s gone on and the downfall of elevating people due to their name or connections with the Lakers, it’s shocking seeing people even mention Ryan West as someone who is anywhere close to being qualified to take over.
He’s never been the director of scouting, hasn’t been assistant GM, wasn’t a former player/agent. His current title of director of player personnel seems to be more administrative work than basketball related. Don’t think someone who was just an assistant director of scouting is even worth considering as the next person to help lead the front office just cause his dad is Jerry West.
You're not wrong, for sure. Having Jerry with him is the deal breaker. But every source around the Lakers talks of how important he's been to the scouting staff and draft success and it seems like he has great personnel ideas but the Lakers haven't had a very open decision making process.

Smokescreen... Ramona is burning some major haystack to create some serious smoke... the ship that is the Lakers is rudderless and a mayday call was issued after the resignation of Magic and Ramona said “expect no one is coming and Pelinka is Jeanie’s guy”??? Yeah right...

His wife just passed away, he just sold his house in San Antonio... I think he's primed to make a move.
He's also coached LeBron on Team USA... And LeBron likes him.

As long as the buss kids are in charge we are knicks
Warspite:
Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

Bring in Jerry West, pay him whatever he wants. Let him teach you how he and your dad ran things successfully, Jeannie. Ryan West and Jeannie could be the next generation duo. Time to learn from the best, not a newb like Pelinka.

To me this reads as, "I talked to Magic, it's a **** show (read: 'Jeanie won't let you do what she hired you to') otherwise I would have thought about doing it."

Re: Search for next president: Reports say Jeanie going after a big name
Why are we thinking that people who are 10+ years over the retirement age will be the saviors of this franchise? Being an executive is hard job, especially when you need to change the direction of a big market franchise w/ this level of pressure. In normal organizations executives usually retire in their early 60s, because they don't want to work that much in that age.
Riley might be a unique person, but still… He seems to be keeping half of his eye on his own retirement. I'm sure that he will keep his job until he can do the work, but as he already admitted no chance he will take another president level job in another org.
Jerry is not even taking up those level of roles in any organization (being a board member is totally different than running an org), and I'm quite sure that this is not because other organizations haven't needed a good GM in the last 2 years.

The Lakers need to find the up and coming NEW bright guy not retreat someone back from the past.

The Lakers need to find a competent GM to do the GM job and a competent President to do the President's job. Its simple, hire professionals to fill profession roles.

Anyone ever think that magic stepping down may be an illegal way for us to use magic to recruit players to our team without getting tampering fines? My guess magic is still working behind the scenes but can’t get in trouble now

Guys, Ramona is a mouthpiece for the Lakers front office. That has been proven time and time again where she has either propagated truths or lies on their behalf.
So, the answer is either A) there really is nobody at all or B) there is soneone that they cant legally say yet or dont want to say yet, and ramona is helping with optics without truly actually knowing what us happening.
Either way, this is the lakers i love. Throw smoke, keep everyone guessing. Then pounce.

Nah, there is no way Ramona is in on it and helping with optics. Anyone that has listened to Ramona on with Mason and Ireland the past week would feel the same way.
When asked about the potential that there really is a secret search for a president, Ramona admitted she may not be the best source cause she talked about it being her journalistic duty to report it if she heard it. She said the story would be too big to not report, and so if anyone hinted at it with her they’d know she would go public.
She followed that up by stating that she’s checked up on the rumor both inside and outside the organization and no one has heard anything real about it, so she said unless people are straight lying to her she doesn’t think there’s anything going on and she said she thinks she’s good at sensing when she’s being lied to.

Re: Search for next president: Reports say Jeanie going after a big name
On the Simmons/Russillo podcast:
Bill: -talking about Sam Presti possibly leaving- "Now would be the time to go.. there's some good jobs."
Russillo: "Looks like that Lakers job is never gonna be open, huh?"
Bob: "Well, I think they're waiting for someone. I don't even think it's a secret anymore. One of the GM's of a current playoff team is going to get that job."
Then they talk about Bob Meyers and how perfect he'd be for the Lakers job. Talk about how he's well liked, how he's done a good job in Golden State and talking about how he never takes credit for anything and cares less about who gets credit.
More smoke to the fire.
So that's Jackie MacMullan, Stephen A, Colin Cowherd, Bill Simmons, etc. That's a ton of people who know what's going on around the league who say something is going on with the Lakers job.
