as much as i am getting tired of his inconsistency OFFENSIVELY, no.

Murphy is way more injury prone than Lamar, doesn't know the triangle, and might not even be willing to come off the bench. He's also not as good of a rebounder or passer as Lamar, which are more important for a PF off the bench in the triangle offense.

Lamar is also a locker room favorite by most everyone on the team. Everyone loves him and he makes everyone laugh and lightens the mood. Some things don't show up on the court, and this is one of them.

Murphy's contract is also 12 mil, 4 more than Lamar. You'd have to give up Lamar and 4 mil more worth of players (say, Steve Blake) to even balance the salaries. You'd have to be straight up stupid to do something like that.

Lakers play the triangle approximately just 5% of the time. Murphy not knowing the offense should not be much of a detriment. Neither Barnes nor Ratliff know the triangle offense, and they'll be fine.

Lamar is so very underrated. He doesnt start but yet he still averages 11 and 10 off the bench. I think people heavily underrate his rebounding and they see his points per game and assume hes not getting the job done. Remember we dont really need him to score alot of points, his ability to get 10 rebounds per game and defend multiple positions is a huge reason why weve won back to back. Every team needs a player who isnt worried about scoring and just wants to defend and rebound.

lamar's ability to play pick n roll defense is invaluable. having troy murphy out there leaves the lakers way too un-athletic.

^That, plus I think Troy is expiring. So that leaves us not only with an inexperienced bench this year, but then again next year also. Lamar's contract is also very reasonable at ~8 mill a season (it goes up and then down over the next 2 or 3 years) for the minutes he logs. I also see Lamar as a trade asset if we need him to be in a year or two.

Here's the deal with me on LO. The Lakers are a monster right now. They have a chance to pull of 6 or more titles in this run alone. LO when he's on in unstoppable. My thing is why do we have to keep hoping for good games? I don't mean stats wise. Stats at times are misleading. I'm talking about effort 100% of the time.

Something that i will just probably have to face is this board is pro LO. There is always an excuse for why he can't be touched but others everyone wants to trade as soon as any name is mentioned. Maybe Murphy is or is not that guy but I'd like to see a guy come bust it night in & night out & when asked to step up, NO EXCUSES!

This is what the problem is. He limits himself like that. To be honest Lamar should be nearly on a Keven Durant type of level night in & night out.

If he did that every night, I guarantee you Bynum would be coming off of the bench. As much as i like Drew's game I think the only reason he starts is because LO can't bring it every night. Drew doesn't always either but bigger body in the paint wins out with Phil.

what a horrible comparison, Randolph has done jack **** in the league, other then put up a 20/10 gm here and there....if anything it should be the other way around, Randolph peak is Odom in his days at Mia.

Lamar is just too versatile. Yeah he has stretches of games where we wonder if Elden Campbell had returned in a #7 jersey, but Lamar has key critical appearances in games where we think he could be NBA MVP if he played like that all the time.

Yeah, even though Lamar can be wildly inconsistently at times I'd still take him over Troy Murphy every single time... nothing against Troy though. When Lamar brings it he's on a whole other level, and generally plays his best in big games.

Also, Mitch Kupchak learned how to be a great GM from Jerry West. And the first thing Kupchak learned from him was that its not wise to make roster moves on a whim. Be patient and alert and make the right moves at the right time.

Odom may not be living up to his potential, but he's still incredibly versatile, he isn't a chemistry killer (not saying Murph is), and there is no real reason to unload a talented 6'10" forward with better handles than a lot of guards.
