I could just visualize it, in heaven now, Kobe looking at the Hall of heavenly-realm legendary leaders and archangels...and seeing that on the schedule God has Michael the Archangel leading up the charge in the 2nd coming during the Apocalypse...

Kobe will ask God "How can I be with Michael and lead up the charge as well?"

God will say "uh, first you got to be an angel. You got to train for about a millenium for that."

"got it. then what??"

"hmmm..then you got to become in charge of warfare and the earthly realms by becoming an archangel. I only have a few of them in the past million years"

"ah got it. then what?"

"haha, oh yeah? you a good little boy...Kobe, you got to be my TOP ARCHANGEL to lead up the battle in the coming Apocalypse man!!! dont worry bout it!!!!!! chilll bruh!!!"

---

In a few thousand years when earth sees the sky open up in a blazing light during the Apocalypse...

a legion of angels coming galloping out of the sky...

in front, is Michael, God's Number 1 Arch Angel , in all his heavenly sight-blinding armor and terror..
and next to Michael is Kobe. In his sight-blinding purple and gold and a number 24 inscribed onto his back.

... I don't know that I have "one" memory that stands out. There are lots of memories. The lasting impression I have is his overall persona... the drive to be great is what stands out.

There's an interview from years ago, probably on MTV or something, someone asking Kobe about how he met Vanessa...

I remember Kobe talking about the way Vanessa first introduced herself, imitating her voice/inflection saying her name.

For some reason, that always stuck with me... something sweet, something beyond basketball, something real...

Kobe had a tendency to show up in places I wouldn't expect, even indie Canadian television.

Maybe not a "favorite" memory but one of the more amazing things I've every witnessed a pro ball player do.

Kobe's high scoring games in the 05-06 season were something to behold. We weren't great that year by any stretch but of all of those games where he had over 50 points the one that stands out more than the others is the Dallas game where he had 62 at the end of the 3rd quarter and Dallas had 61. Chris Mihm was the second highest scorer in the game with 9 followed by Laron Profit's 8 in garbage time.

One of my favorite moments definitely but i forgot how it was; I rewatched the utah game and the way he went out in the last quarter .. (down by 10 with 3:30 mins to go; surely lebron/aD team would have lost that one!!) magically the basketball gods (or Kobe just dam willed it) allowed for every single one of his shots to go in and win the game w the last statistic for him was an Assist.

And the crowd just going wild and touching him and hugging him and tears of joy...it was eerie because it was like everyone fore saw him leaving the world in a few years. It was haunting to watch from that perspective.

There are so many memories I can’t pick one. This one that I remember watching as a kid just randomly popped up in my head.

Then Dirk talking about that shot...

For obvious reasons this celebrity death has hit me. I was not one to be really affected by any celeb death even if they were uber famous (I liked michael jackson, yeah, but when he died i was in shock but i quickly moved on , for instance).

Kobe and Gigi's death has stung slowly. I didnt feel it the first day or two. Now I feel a bit unrest and a little bit , kind of strange, "homesick". I feel i am missing home a bit. I have been texting my wife back and forth a lot the past couple of days even though i should be paying attention to my job (I have been lol) i have used a lot of down time to text back and forth w her only talking about Kobe. (and kobe and Gigi, as she likes to clump them together as that is the more sense of profound loss to her than just kobe).

Kobe had lived a full life. Kind of like Mozart. He showed his genius and his prolific accomplishments and generated high criticisms and high praise across the world. Like as if he was the god of Music . And he transcends to this time. Mozart's time was his time; he only lived to 35. But we got robbed of what could have been if he lived let say another 30 years. wow cant imagine.

I feel robbed of what Kobe could have done and inspired us on for more. Im sure lot of us feel the same way.
Im trying to approach my life w mamba mentality. But it is hard. Easy to say in the height of emotion that day when you see the tributes on tv. But next day in the cold morning and having to face a boatload of difficult issues and difficult people at work and in your life, I feel like procrastinating again. running away again. I dont know how to plug into that mamba mentality. Shows how great Kobe was. To do that every single day.

I got more to say.Im just going to ramble on and write when i feel like it on this thread. Not going to filter my thoughts. ..

So many amazing on and off court moments obviously, but one of my personal favorites is the press conference after we beat the Celtics in Game 7.

For the two years since we lost to the Celtics in the finals and especially in the playoffs leading up to to the 2010 finals where we got our revenge, the press constantly hounded Kobe about what it would mean to beat the Celtics. His tune never changed, “they’re just another great team...” “we just want win a championship, regardless of who we play...” and so on. Never gave them an inch.

Then when he actually accomplished beating the Celtics, in 7 games non the less, all the truth came out. How he’d been thinking about this since 08, how much it means to beat the Celtics etc. He waited to accomplish what he needed to reveal the truth. It felt like we saw the real Kobe there.

Always stuck with me

Today I was thinking about his Rap album, his unheard of Number Change, and his jumping over the snakes... Those were the most Kobe things ever... Along with naming himself the Black Mamba... And nobody laughed.

Havent watched an NBA game yet or even followed any laker trade rumors because Im still just trying to absorb anything about Kobe right now. Just have been on a marathon any chance I get watching all tributes and interviews and such by all those who knew him and/or touched by him.
Psychologically it is like i forgot there was an NBA season to play. I sometimes turn the channel and see glimpses of games being played and it just looks like that...game being played, guys running around w a ball in hand. Doesnt really register still because I am so absorbed by relationship and brotherhood info and knowledge out there. And not only what Kobe contributed but what Lebron did and or what Dwight said or did, or what someone in the nba has contributed to society in some impactful way...

Kobe spending 20 years straight living the moment, was my favorite moment. The consistency, the focus, the work ethic. Inspirational like few other things. His entire story is that of a legend.

There are too many basketball moments but the dunk on Nash, the baptizing of Howard and Ming, the lob pass to Shaq against Portland. There’s a hilarious Shawn Bradley poster job. His performances against Denver in his prime around 04-06 were very special, historically remarkable.

This is pretty much what I remember of him after his retirement. A happy dad spending time with his daughters.

Kobe shot all those Airballs vs Utah in the Playoffs but he was not fazed and just kept taking them. That moment on I knew he would be great.

Kobe & Shaq vs Portland down by 15 in the 4th an come back and beat them. A Very stack Portland Team.
Kobe & Shaq vs Sacramento and all the Cow Bells saying beat LA and LA beat them being down in the series against another stack Kings team.

Kobe & Pau vs Boston the Big Three KG, PP & Ray Allen
Those two series were great two.

The Shaq interview was so moving it brought me to tears i never have seen the big fella ever cry. Let alone on TV and in front of his coworkers. Saying that he could have never won those 3 championships without Kobe was so huge to his humility now and character. I was so moved by that.
