edit. I used to work in downtown and the lofts are ok to live in, but they are so close to bad areas and a lot of homeless people frequent the area.

this is not at all why LA sucks, there are **** areas in every major city.

i dont like LA because the cost of living is stupid high and the people are really fake. when you compare the people you meet in LA to people from the midwest/east its like night and day. i think its the weather, having to live through cold seasons makes it harder to be a fake douchebag.

There are douchebags mostly everywhere. trust me though LA has it's perks. Here In Santa cruz there is **** to do outside of outdoor activities. Theres like one mall etc. LA has good stuff as long as you have the money.
When I finish school I do plan on living in L.A if i get a decent job.

If you don't like it maybe you should look for a change of scenery. Sometimes you don't appreciate what you have until you don't have it anymore.

i am looking to leave LA

LA is nice to live as long as you got the money and a good job to back you up. When **** hit the fan for me the last time I was living and working in LA that's when I drove across country and took a long 2 year break in Florida. Florida or more specifically St. Augustine was nice, different, and I lived right across the beach. Did some soul searching during that time on what I truly wanted out of life.

For a long time when I was in California, it seemed like I was just waiting to die. But ever since I moved out to Vietnam, it finally feels like I'm actually living again.

i think talking about living LA as this one singular place is a little off. LA is so huge and so different to everyone that its hard to even describe it as a whole. i know that growing up and living in east LA, my experience of LA is probably drastically different than some others on here. my LA is 99% latino where the primary language is spanish and you can go your entire life without ever needing to learn english.

I grew up in South Central which isn't the most pleasing experience so I might be biased as well.

Sorry to hear that man. Hope you feel better. How old was your dog?
My dog is already ten and I get sad just thinking about the day that he will pass away.

Sorry Doc. Had to put down both my dogs this year due to old age and failing health... Not sure when I'll be ready to get another dog...

LA is a big place and varied culturally... Which is what makes it awesome. But Downtown is Downtown... It's all those cultures crammed into a couple square miles or so...

It ain't for everyone for sure, but I've met a lot of people that moved away from LA lately and almost all of them miss it... And I know a lot of LA people who've moved back.

I think the farther you get away from it, the more you realize the reasons you "hated" it carried less and less weight...

As for LA people being fake... I don't think very many people no matter where they're from get real with you unless you're family... It may be a different Fake, but it's still fake here in the south.
My experience is people are nicer here but more self-righteous... So if you catch them in a lie or business transaction, they're less likely to admit they're wrong and make things right.
Plus if you move out of LA and let it be known you were from LA, don't ever expect to get a good deal on anything.

The funny thing is that downtown has changed a lot in the past 6 years. Even the area around staples was bad until they made the L.A live area and started building lofts and charging up the ass for them. Plus they also started to push all the homeless into one little area. I havent' lived in L.A for 3 years now and im still deciding if i'm going to move back when i'm done with school here or stay up here until grad school comes.

Go to Berkley or Stanford and just stay up there... College is different... I don't think I'd want to go to school in a City like LA. I loved going to UCSB because the whole town was more laid back and the entire nite-life of the town was centered around the College... Let you focus more on having fun than on staying safe.

San Francisco isn't like SB but it's not like LA either.

Yeah can't imagine being a student in LA without some kind of school funding, I turned down a grad school admit from USC to go to Missouri just for the cost of living alone.

**** can get depressing if you have to worry about money while attending college and concentrating on academics.

you say go to berkley or stanford as if they accept just anybody, those are 2 of the hardest schools to get into in the entire country. not to mention ridiculously expensive, especially stanford.

I'm actually applying to Stanford and with me being poor and all I get a good amount of financial aid.
Berkeley doesnt have a med school, but UCSF does.

Damn.

This video trips me out... Partially because there's nobody around... But am I hallucinating or did the people in that video say "Don't get him out," and laugh about it?

There just didn't seem like a lot of people trying to help... Probably wouldn't have done a whole lot of good, but I just think humanity dies a little when you don't put the damn camera down and try to DO something.

We're quickly turning into a society of shiftless voyeurs... There's not a lot of pride or honor in that.

seriously i think it's going to take alien invasion or full nuke war to unite humanity and make them care. However, by then it's too late i think.

The dude in the car video was running away saying that it might blow up. I think he was **** scared by the flames and you cannot blame him, if the fire hits the fuel tank, that's a big explosion hazard in accidents involving sports cars.
