Didn't hit me at first, but as the day went on, reality set in, and I caught myself shedding tears quite a few times. I'm still at a loss for words. Literally watched him his entire career. He still had so much to do in his life, and it's heartbreaking knowing that GiGi is also gone, as he still had so much to teach her. Would've been pretty damn cool to see her follow in her father's footsteps.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one, but I expected to be watching Kobe on the TV 30-40 years from now all wrinkly and old looking back at his tremendous life and career. Just goes to show you how short and unexpected life can be.

**** is so sad. Definitely my most crushing loss as a Laker fan.

I’m truly sorry for the loss from a Lakers fan perspective.

I literally told someone yesterday how iconic it must be to be a fan of a franchise of legends like Kareem, Kobe and now LeBron sitting atop scoring history.

Kobe and Shaq was the reason I never witnessed a championship as a Nets fan growing up. Alot of Nets fans to this day look back on the Lakers-Nets series as an honor to witness the rare Shaq/Kobe Batman and Superman duo.

I recently said to someone that history will repeat itself with Kobe becoming Kyrie’s mentor and KD joining the Nets and being mentored by Kobe on Achilles rehab. It felt destined to have another Lakers/Nets Finals in the future and it still does feel that but today...massive chunk of my childhood died, I watched Kobe beat the Celtics, I watched Kobe beat the Magic, I watched Kobe duel with Jeremy Lin in the Garden, I watched Kobe tear his Achilles, I watched Kobe score 60 on his retirement day. All in real time and I’m from Brooklyn...I wanted to watch him finally be inducted into the Hall of Fame and I wanted to watch his daughter ascend to the WNBA spotlight and change the game.

I fully expected Gigi Bryant to become the face of the WNBA after seeing how dedicated he was to equalizing the platform between women’s basketball and men’s basketball.

Either way, I’m heartbroken. Kyrie is heartbroken. KD is heartbroken. Spencer Dinwiddie, his idol is heartbroken. Our coach is extremely heartbroken as he recently met Kobe a month ago and Kobe hugged him. Kenny Atkinson told the media tonight, he was excited Kobe knew of his coaching and Kenny went home to tell his wife immediately after the Nets/Hawks game...

This has never happened in the history of American sports to a first ballot HOF icon and I hope it doesn’t happen again.

RIP Mamba. From Brooklyn to LA.

I don't think its been mentioned, but do we know why the Lakers org hasn't said anything or even players currently on the Lakers.

Joey Buss had a tweet but I presume they are all too devastated to do anything now.

It's really starting to hit me that kobe is gone. I've cried thinking about him thinking of his daughter and his family

I truly don't understand this. Why it had to be them? I don't understand it.

That's what I expected. Out of all the legends, Kobe probably lived the healthiest. He looked good in retirement. He was also happy and giving back. I thought he'd Outlast the ones that were battling demons or just didn't take care of themselves but he didn't.

I don't understand.

I've never seen someone transfer into retirement so gracefully as Kobe did. He really enjoyed his life.

Yeah, it's like that unfortunately.

When my brother called me, I was sleeping.

He said "Kobe died."

I said "Coby who?!"

No offense to these guys but

I literally started thinking about all the different Coby/kobys. I thought of Coby Karl , George Karl's son as I remembered he had a bout with cancer. Koby Altman. ( Glad they're okay and in good health)

I never thought my brother was talking about Kobe Bryant.

Just unreal. My mind couldn't wrap my head around it.

I've been watching basketball since the mid 70's. I can tell you this: Kobe was the guy that was the most feared competitor of Boston. Unlike Magic, Kobe would destroy you and there wasn't any smile on his face either while he was doing it.

This is very sad for me but it must be even worse for y'all in LA. It is an absolute tragedy.

Rest in Peace to Mr. Bryant and your very cute daughter GiGi. Can't imagine what his wife and other children are feeling right now.

I'm italian and here in our country Kobe is the most popular basketball player with MJ. Basket is not so well known in Italy but almost every italian knows how big is Kobe's legend. He left his heart here in Reggio Calabria and Emilia. He was also a great ACM fan, god I fell lost, I cried all the night. I began to watch basket because of Kobe and Dirk, I'm a Mavs fan but I always loved to watch Kobe, I idolized him, he's the greatest player I've ever seen.
My deepest condolences to Kobe's family, his wife and to all Lakers & basketball fans.

Remembering day when he dropped 81, i saw it on freaking teletext before school ( i'm from Europe) and i was like 14. First i thought it's just some typo mistake. Whole school was buzzing about it, but, ofc nobody had mobile internet back in 2006 so we had to wait to know did it really happen.

True legend, i cried my gut out last night when news broke out. Can't belive he is gone. Made millions of kids basketball fans.
What hits you hard is death of his beloved daughter. My heart goes for others who lost loved ones in that helicopter too.

Couldn't sleep last night. Kept waking up in the middle of the night, hoping that what I just saw and heard was a bad dream. I always rooted against Kobe early on, and slandered him at every opportunity, but I never questioned and always respected his drive, determination, competitiveness and his love for basketball. It was only during his twilight years that I allowed myself to admire him from afar. I only realized it when he tore his achilles in 2013, and I felt awful for him when he was doing that interview after the game, his eyes red from the crying. The guy carried that squad into the playoffs, playing insane minutes. Crazy.

That admiration grew after he retired. Seeing him mentor the young guys in an effort to push the game forward was awesome. And of course, seeing him be a dad, and how proud he was of his kids...... that clip from a few weeks ago with him and Gianna talking hoop.....it made me smile, and all that hatred I had for him washed away. I could now relate to him. He was no longer Kobe the Laker, enemy of the Celtics. He was just Kobe - cool dad, talking hoops with his girl, and all I thought was "I hope when my daughter reaches that age, I hope she likes basketball as much as Gianna, so we can hang out like that".

And now they're both gone. This one hurts guys. More than I thought it would, and if it's this bad for me, then I can't imagine what you're going through. My heart weeps for all of Laker Nation. I'm so sorry for your loss.

This one cut deep, very deep. I broke down and had to be consoled on on a couple different occasions yesterday, and I admittedly couldn't sleep last night. I found myself tossing and turning just thinking about the last moments Kobe had with his daughter on that helicopter. Just not a very pleasant place for your mind to be.

Social media was absolutely overwhelming. Once the news of his passing was confirmed I stepped aside from my phone and tv, it was all too much for my mind to process at that time. With that being said, it was impossible to avoid this headline. I went to the gym to distract my mind, but found myself sharing the utter disbelief with my friends and people that I barely even knew. The little solace that I found was in reminiscence of his career, and hearing about the country wide homage to Kobe.

I get it, I never met the man in person so I shouldn't have these kind of attachments. But I do, as do many of you. Kobe to me goes far beyond basketball. Kobe taught me how to pursue my dreams with a single-minded focus, dedication, and relentless work ethic. Kobe taught me that no one is perfect. We all make mistakes, what's important is that we learn from them and mature from them. Kobe taught me what it's like to be a family man. That clip of Kobe with Gigi at a Hawks game keeps playing in my head over and over again, and it absolutely breaks my heart.

This one will linger for a long time, but I'm glad I can share my grief with my fellow Laker fans. Sorry I've all over the place with this post, a part of me is still trying to compartmentalize this all. I've got so many more things to say, but for now I'll just leave it at this.
