Did you post that song sarcastically?

Because dubstep gives a bad name to all electronic music fans and DJs. Fact.

electronic > dubstep

this coming from someone who doesn't really understand dubstep.

for a first timer or anyone who really doesn't like dubstep, can you suggest something that can make us change our perspective? this isn't sarcastic, I'm interested.

do you like a softer style of electronic or do you go for the harder hitting stuff? because there's different types of dubstep

Ive listened to more than enough dubstep to know it's not for me. At all.

Jack house, house, disco, nu-disco, downtempo and various electronica is where I'll always be at. I know a lot of DJs who have jumped on the dubstep bandwagon which has made me bitter on it a bit, especially as someone who has stayed true to my house roots. I don't really care if people like it though, to each their own, but I can't stand it.

No, but as a DJ, you're really confined to the type of music you can play. If you spin dubstep, you can't really spin much else, same with trance, hardcore, etc.. Its very hard to find DJs who play a wide variety of genres and tracks, simply because it's not what the audiences want, and it's not usually what the clubs want.

I have a pretty varied taste, but theres definetly genres I stay away from, like dubstep, simply because i don't like it.

here we go

so this is probably the most popular dubstep artist right now, purists will tell you he ruined dubstep, and his music isn't dubstep, but rather a fake genre called brostep, these are dubstep hipsters and they're annoying as ****

more "brostep"

this is the significantly more mellow version, and the original dubstep sound. i personally enjoy all variants so it doesnt matter to me. This one is very laid back and relaxed.

this is kind of in between the two, Rusko is kind of the one people point to when they say who started this "brostep" thing

here's one that doesn't have the typical features of a dubstep song, there isn't any real LFO'd bass or breakbeats

i can dish out much more if needed

that last video is (Please Use More Appropriate Word) btw, but i couldnt find a better quality version

thanks Jay, appreciate the effort.

here's a noob's perspective:

-thought dubstep will sound like techno, almost (for me) but not really. it was, "WTH?!" at first but eventually I'm getting it's essence.

-first track was, as Jay said, annoying. the rifts were not pleasant to the ears. well it's just me.

- I like the mellow one by Mala and the "(Please Use More Appropriate Word)" one.

- I just noticed you added another track (2nd). listening to Skrillex, I think dubstep is growing on me.

I'm not sure how to appreciate this type of genre so I did my research. got this from an article.

1. It's supposed to be that filthy. Dubstep is about new sounds that catch you off guard, and if it grabs your attention and makes you wanna go crazy, then you are experiencing it correctly - just go with it!

2. It's all about the drop. When you hear it building up higher and higher, just wait for it like everyone else. Don't be that single person who is still dancing when the drop is about to happen - the whole room is about to implode and you need to be ready.

3. Dubstep rarely has words, but it doesn't need them. Although many dubstep tracks put a funny or exciting statement at the drop, don't be expecting to sing along with a catchy melody. Like I said, dubstep is about new sounds, and unlike most house music it's meant to be payed attention to. The dubstep artist is speaking to you in a new language, and if you really love dubstep then you understand exactly what he/she is saying.

and I'm proud to say that I experienced what should be experienced. 8-)

I don't like it yet but I don't hate it. thank you Jay!
