If Lue comes with some good assistants then that could be a good combination. He has worked with LeBron before so if he can get guys that will make up for his coaching problems then it could work well.

Sounds like Williams will be the HC.

This is such a difficult situation for the Lakers.
Everything we focused on under the Walton hire was negated once LeB was acquired.
Letting go a head coach was not an easy choice.
And now the FO has to do everything as right as they can not to make a bad choice for the franchise with selecting from such a short list.
Pelinka, on up, will be under the microscope this coming season.

In the last decade Phil was still here and we had Tex Winters so no.

Mike Brown also had Eddie Jordan, Etore Messina, Bernie Bickerstaff, and Quin Snyder as his assistants so again no.

It’s Dantoni, Scott, and Luke who didn’t want a strong second guy

I stand corrected

Was just saying that Phil always had Tex health permitting there to check him and the players. Tex could tell Shaq or Kobe off face to face and them respect it. Tex forgot more about basketball than most will ever know

And for all the **** Mike Brown gets. He built a good staff, got home court advantage, and turned Bynum into an actual all star selection forcing the O through him over Pau. I would take his ass back over Kidd or Monty. He knows lebron, knows the lakers, knows the modern day warriors stuff, and knows how to build a staff at least.

Messina is an all time great euro coach. Eddie Jordan made Scott successful as an assistant in Jersey and then made the wizards a playoff team as a head coach. Snyder would go on to coach the jazz and make them relevant. And bickerstaff has been around the nba as a coach and analyst for years. Mike Brown accepted outside knowledge. Hell he retained Chuck Persons from Phil’s staff as his shooting coach too.

You are right. I hated on potato head too back in the day but his staff was loaded. Hope Lue does the same.

Make him president. I don't know if he wants to coach again but he's got a good 10 yrs left working in the background, calling the shots.

Think Pat Riley. Give him anything he wants power wise, decision making, anything. He can hire his coach(Udoka, Becky, Messina) and be responsible for all the FA/trade moves, while Pelinka can be his yes man and get the deals done.

I actually felt Brown was exposed a bit when he lost Mike Malone as assistant. From top 10 (3rd and 7th final 2 years) in Cleveland, to 13th best without him.But one time it stood out was when in the preseason, Kobe simply stared at this guy and allowed him to take 15 footer, Brown stoop up and called time out. Mike said to Kobe, we should play much harder on defense...Kobe was not impressed with the offense and demanded better schemes. I don't know how they ended up deciding to use Princeton offense bec it was very complicated and requires time and patience and adding Nash and Howard to the mix exacerbated the situation bec of raised expectations etc.
But this concept of getting the best assistants should be in the top priority list. GSW actually did the same thing when Myers swoop in to get Malone as assistant for Mark Jackson. 2 years later he hired Alvin Gentry and more importantly Ron Adams to help Kerr.
Adams was the main guy helping Thibs at Chicago. When Tom lost Adams, the Bulls went from 2nd and 6th best in defense to 11th.
Another priority should be the getting the best trainers and player development staff like San Antonio who developed Forbes and White or even the guys from Miami for nurturing Tyler Johnson, Richardson etc.

Been awfully quiet the past few days. Leaking appears to have stopped since Magic left... go figure!

There’s been plenty of leaks. Every interview resulted in a leak that if went well. There were also leaks that the front office has been telling them that they plan on addressing most of their roster issues via free agency not trades.

Sooo basically everyone was impressive... sheesh they make it seems like we are interviewing the cream of the coaching crop and not Ty Lue, Monty Williams, Jason Kidd, and Juwan Howard.

Actually Jason didn't get that impressed leak... hmm.

I could be wrong but I thought they took their time too before hiring Byron Scott. Magic praised the decision and I also felt he was the safest option with his relative success with the nets and Pelicans.

I think that’s what I’d like to see, based on his relation to AD, Kawhi, KD, LBJ. All of them respect him from what I can find out.

Does he preach defense? Is he a good defensive mind?

Edit: if we have Lonzo, Leonard/Klay, Ingram as our front line defense we might not need a defensive genius as a coach. We could hire Rondo as an assistant coach for that.
