Magic takes a pay cut, Harden takes a pay cut for cap flexibility, Lebron recruits AD, Dame takes the money. What are the chances his ex teammates CJ and Nance Jr have a better team right now?

Lillard is not dominant enough on both ends to be paid as if he were. Diminishing returns become real for some players when they get paid more than their value.

Edit: Westbrook should demand a trade. It’ll help his value tremendously going forward.

If the Kyrie trade falls through what about hitting up Utah...

Lakers Recieve - Pat Bev, Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdonovic
Utah Recieve - Russ , Nunn

Utah clears Conley 22 mil for next year.

It's a pretty good Plan B, I just don't think Jeannie would allow additional salaries beyond this year. If you look at their payroll, including the new additions, They only committed to AD and THT, that is it.

Vasilije Micic could be a good addition to the team. I'm not sure what we need to make a trade work (as in who to send out to match dollars) but speculation is that OKC would accept a deal for a 2nd round pick. His team in the EU pays him $3m, so he'd probably need something close.

Hope the FO is giving this a look. If he can replace Westbrook in the starting/closing 5, that's a win... and we don't have anything to lose. :P

Micic/Nunn, Walker/Reaves, Troy/JTA/Stanley, Lebron/Gabriel, AD/Bryant/Jones

As far as a decent plan B option, I would take this one step further and see if it's possible to include the Pacers in this trade.
The revised trade works in the trade machine, and would go as follows:

Lakers Receive- Pat Bev, Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdonovic, Buddy Hield
Jazz receive- RW
Pacers receive- THT, Nunn, [insert fair amount of second rounders from the Lakers/Jazz]
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=25dn5r4h

Maybe I'm being biased, but I believe dumping Conley's second year would realistically cost a 1st rounder in the open market. Bogdonovic is a neutral valued contract at best, and Pat Bev has minimal positive value, if any. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect the Jazz to send a couple of second rounders to get the savings they'll be getting. As for the Pacers, Hield is obviously easier to move than someone like Conley, but I don't think anyone else is offering this level of savings for him AND adding a first rounder.

Hield simply doesn't fit the Pacers roster & timeline, and I'm sure the Pacers are aware that he could negatively effect their rebuild in addition to his high price tag. The Pacers backcourt is very crowded, with Haliburton as their new cornerstone, and 4 other young guards that have each showed small flashes and under contract for atleast the next 2 years; Duarte, Nesmith, Terry Taylor, and Duane Washington Jr. Additionally, their lottery pick is another perimeter player, though he could be considered more as a wing. Oh and you have TJ McConnell signed for 3 more years as well. Yes on the surface adding THT and Nunn actually manages to make their backcourt more crowded. But Nunn could easily be bought out or moved at the deadline, and THT atleast could be used a wing.

Again, maybe I'm off but to me the value makes sense there for each team. And assuming that's true, the next question becomes: Why does this makes sense for the Lakers as a plan B?

Well, the main appeal here is that we would be going back to the formula that brought us success. Obviously AD/Lebron in 2023 are a lesser version of their 2020 selves, but an argument could be made that this supporting cast would fit as well as the 2020 cast did, with a decent talent upgrade. Conley and Pat Bev are a shell of their former selves, but with Reeves, we would be talking about a pretty significant improvement over 2020 Rondo, Bradley, and Caruso. Hield/Bogdonovic/Walker arguably provide more shooting and scoring than KCP, Kuz, and D.Green did, though they would be a sizable downgrade on the defensive end. I'm confident that Damian Jones and T.Bryant could hold down the center spot as well as Mcgee and Dwight did.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this hypothetical team would be in the same league as the 2020 counterpart. The supporting cast, at best, would be a slight upgrade, and this upgrade wouldn't come close to covering for Lebron/AD's decline. But realistically, even with Kyrie this team could not contend if Lebron/AD aren't playing at that level. A championship run is a long shot, no matter how we look at it. Atleast this attempt doesn't mortgage the future and still would have potential for improvement. Who knows, if the team starts half decent and is competing for a 4-5 seed in the West, you could still package your picks with some of these guys at the deadline if the right opportunity comes up. Bogdonovic/Pat Bev's expiring contracts could easily be moved at the deadline if we manage to keep our picks.

i dunno....as far as plan B's go, it could be a lot worse. That's of course dependent on if my valuation is accurate regarding what the Pacers and Jazz are looking for...which is a huge if. But I don't think it's too farfetched. Curious to hear what everyone else thinks regarding the valuation..

I honestly don't think it's a possibility for either team. Why would Indiana do that?

If Kyrie is off the table and Brooklyn's not budging.. the Lakers, IMO, have to move on.

Contact Utah. Pacers. Spurs. Make a Westbrook deal and get some parts back. Sacrifice the pick. You cannot bring him back to this team after all this.

If Irving is off the table, I hope this is the roster:

- Trade Westbrook, Reaves, 2027 1st, 2nd round pick for Conley, Bogdanovic, Beverley
- Trade THT/Nunn/Gabriel/2nd rounder for Hield
- Sign Cole Swider to a guaranteed contract

PG: Conley/Beverley/
SG: Hield/Walker/Christie
SF: Bogdanovic/Brown Jr/Swider
PF: LeBron/JTA/Stanley
C: Davis/Bryant/Jones

You could also bring Bogdanovic off the bench and start Thomas Bryant, but I'd rather have more minutes with our best players on the floor together.

If we stay healthy, that's not a team I'd want to see in the playoffs. If Conley's killing you defensively, you plug in Beverley. There's a lot of roleplayers on that team who will know their role and do what they need to do. Conley's contract is only two years at a manageable number ($24M).

Yep, I like this. Even if the Pacers won't trade with us (cause Pritchard lol), you could still possibly send THT to Utah and roll with a Conley/PatBev, Reaves/LW4 guard rotation

Well, the Utah Jazz are reportedly open to trading all of their veteran players, so some of the suggestions made above might just happen. :)

Indiana has signed Ayton to an offer sheet.

By doing this, the Suns can't do a S&T. They can only match which they won't.

Myles Turner trade to somewhere else coming up. We could be players in this.

The Thunder have more than 15 players and some will get waived. Any interest in these guys?

I think Darius Bazley could be a good young role player to add. Vit Krejci seems interesting in that he's like a 6'8" Austin Reaves, probably needs time to develop in the G-League though.

Darius Bazley $4,264,629 / rFA
Ty Jerome $4,220,057 / rFA
Theo Maledon, $1,900,000 /$1,930,681 (TO)
JaMychal Green $8,200,000 / UFA
Derrick Favors $10,183,800 / UFA
Vit Krejci $1,563,518 / $1,836,096 (non guaranteed)

I think Lonzo’s knee is pretty much cooked. Chicago is trying to keep the chatter as encouraging as possible but even that sounds very pessimistic.

Looks like my dream of getting Turner isn’t going to happen. And I don’t see Brooklyn caving in.

Lakers receive - Buddy Hield, Patrick Beverly , Bojan Bogdanovic
Utah Receive - THT, Nunn , Goga Bitaze
Pacers receive - Russ, Rudy Gay , 27 first from lakers top 4 protected

Who needs more?
