DeMar/Davis trade idea discussion

Post#341 » by HINrichPolice » Mon Jul 18, 2022 4:23 am

No idea how you all feel about Anthony Davis vs DeMar DeRozan right now, but I imagine LeBron would like to play next to a certified bucket getter and hometown hero in DeMar DeRozan.

Of course, LeBron + DeMar likely has a 2nd round ceiling, but I think it would be pretty fun for LA fans to have those two team up.

So how do Lakers fans feel about a traded centered around Davis and DeMar?

I LOVE the Utah deal... Laker get shooters, veterans and role players & dump Russ...

PG: Conley/Beverley
SG: Hield/Walker/Christie
SF: Bogdanovic/Brown Jr/Swider
PF: LeBron/JTA/Stanley
C: Davis/Bryant/Jones

That is a solid and balanced rosterBOYS...

DeMar + Vucevic for Davis + THT works salary wise.

I'd rather give up Lonzo than Caruso, but since Lonzo is better (when healthy), I'd take picks to even things out. However, salary doesn't work easily with Lonzo in the deal.

Lol, you want the Lakers to add picks after asking us to trade AD for Derozan, which is like giving up a dollar for 25 cents? :P

If you want AD, you're gonna have to give up quite a haul (picks + young players, or a Top 10-15 player in the league).

Another attempt to salvage the Kyrie trade, I've included a THT/Nunn trade in the same deal although in reality it would probably be separate:

LAL out: Russell Westbrook, Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn, 2027 FRP, 2029 FRP, 2023 SRP
LAL in: Kyrie Irving, Eric Gordon, Doug McDermott

BKN out: Kyrie Irving, 2025 SRP
BKN in: Josh Richardson, 2027 LAL FRP

SAS out: Doug McDermott, Josh Richardson
SAS in: Russell Westbrook, 2029 LAL FRP, 2025 BKN SRP

HOU out: Eric Gordon
HOU in: Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn, 2023 LAL SRP

I honestly think something like this could get the job done. Post-trade, I think the rotation could look something like:

Irving / Reaves
Brown Jr. / Walker IV
LeBron / Gordon / Stanley
AD / JTA / McDermott
Bryant / Jones

With Gabriel and the rookies (Pippen Jr., Christie and Swider) out of the rotation. Side note, if we do get Kyrie I think Brown is a decent bet to start at the 2 as a defensive glue guy. I think that's a solid team with enough depth to get through the regular season and decent options in Brown, Gordon and JTA that can hold up defensively when AD is playing the 5.

How about if we instead trade for a fair return? AD for KD is a fair trade. DeMar, lol.

What are everyone's thoughts on the rumors and players? Am I the only one who thinks Kyrie might not be the best one to go all in on? I'm not saying I don't want it to happen I just that the other routes to me arent that bad. All in scenario meaning Russ and both picks are unprotected. Is the Kyrie package the best we can do with that? Would a package of Buddy Hield and Myles Turner make the Lakers a better team? What about Rozier and Hayward? Again im not saying i dont want Kyrie just trying to think outside the box here.

If Kyrie doesn't work out......

Lakers Receive - Randle, Fournier, Conelly
Knicks Receive - D Mitchell, R Gay, Stanley Johnson, Nunn
Utah Receives - Q Grimes, Westbrook, 4 unprotected 1sts Knicks, 1 unprotected 1st Lakers

Thoughts?

Not just no, but hell no. Lakers don’t owe any picks in this proposal, they get picks coming their way.

Multiple ones.

Hield and Turner might be a better option than Kyrie (Turner-AD frontcourt is a perfect fit) but its not realistic. Kyrie is a better option than Turner OR Hield and Rozier/Hayward. Trading for Kyrie is the one move on the board that could potentially get us back in contention.

For those that say that the Lakers and ownership is not willing to spend:

There are currently 11 teams over the NBA's luxury tax line for the 22-23 season with the amount over listed below.

Clippers: $41.7M
Warriors: $36.5M
Nets: $31.2M
Bucks: $23.6M
Celtics: $20.1M
Suns: $16.2M
Lakers: $16.1M
Mavericks: $14.6M
Nuggets: $10.5M
Blazers: $1.5M
Hawks: $1.2M

Seven teams paid the luxury tax last season in the Warriors, Nets, Clippers, Bucks, Lakers, Jazz and 76ers.

Do the Lakers try to make a move this season, even if it means giving up draft assets and doubling down on the next couple of seasons?

Or they refuse to give up FRPs and pretty much keep WB on the roster all year.

But that might mean Lebron doesn't re-sign because he supposedly wants the Lakers to make moves this season, even if it means giving up future FRPs?

He wanted his previous teams to do that, mortgage the future to improve the current rosters and left for teams which seemed to have better chances to compete.

What would be worse, giving up FRPs or seeing Lebron walk without getting anything back?

Gritty but very short term.

We want to build around AD as LBJ starts to decline. LBJ may even leave after the current contract.

I like Butler but would never trade AD for him.

For me its all about Kyrie. If there's an opportunity to get Kyrie for one or both FRPs, I think it ultimately gets done. Kyrie is the one upgrade potentially available that is big enough to MAYBE get us back in contention. I've wanted them to trade whatever it takes (both FRPs, a swap or two, maybe even Reaves) for Kyrie since Durant made the trade request and still want that. I will be beyond pissed if we had an opportunity to essentially swap Russ for Kyrie and we blew it by not putting a second FRP in the deal.

If it's anything else than a Kyrie trade (we're realistically not getting Hield and Turner), then I don't want to trade the FRPs because I think LeBron is gone anyway. If we don't trade for Kyrie this summer/early next season I think its probably 80% LeBron leaves because there's no other move that even gets us close to contention. Maybe they could sign Kyrie next summer, but I think LeBron is pretty fed up with the FO now and losing out on a Kyrie trade would be the last straw.

I'm not even a massive Kyrie fan or anything, he's an **** and probably like the 20th best player in the league off the top of my head. But its the one move on the board to give us a fighting chance for the next couple of seasons. This franchise desperately needs to wash the bad taste of the last two seasons out of its mouth.
