That wouldn't work, though, would it? You have to bring back comparable salary. Either way we end up in the same spot. We're trading Russell for about $40 million in space and a 1st. Not sexy at all, and a big risk with the LeBron piece -- George seems like a given at this point -- but that's the plan.

It's a terrible deal. Russell is by far the most valuable piece in that trade.

All you need is a team with cap space who can absorb that salary or send us expiring back. For a talent like Russell it wouldn't have been hard to find.

I mean, that's what Lopez is -- an expiring contract. We just have to deal with him for one more year.

But we still have Deng and Brooklyn has the space to absorb that salary too.

I didnt watch much of Russell play but trading a 2nd overall pick in only his 3rd season for Brook Lopez? WTF?

I don't think he could ever be the third best player on a contending team.

Either way, I wish him well.

What's your point? We traded him for an expiring and bench fodder. It's a terrible deal regardless of what you think of the 2015 2nd overall pick.

If Lebron was coming here next season, you could have given up assets to clear up space then. There are no guarantees that he's coming here. We gave up on the guy too early.

I'm not surprised Russ got traded. But wow that's a bad return. Proof that old management's vision was actually more in line with the hardcore fans.

Magic and co. just want to gamble on FA like the old days... Bunch of hacks.

What does this mean for PG though? Are we not going to try to trade for him now?

Can't stand this team . Coulda kept the core 3 and added Paul George , grown organically. This was a big time screw up

You don't sell a trade on hope. Has anyone taught that to Pelinka or Magic?

We got to move Moz and we got pick. I think DLo's value dips with every game he plays. I don't think he was as valued around the league as he is here.

We traded away a #2 pick in hopes of pursuing a 34 year old Lebron in free agency. Let the monumental stupidity of this sink in for a minute.

I'll eat crow if this pays off but im more willing to bet that he shows out on the Nets and we regret this for the foreseeable future.

I'm all in.

Now that the shock off it has wore off this seemed inevitable since the day we got the #2 pick and Lonzo.
I've never been a Russell fan from day 1 so its easier for me to deal with it than others. If it had to be done i'm glad we got Mozzy off the books and got an expiring in exchange.

Sure we all would have wanted more but this is good enough.

I have seen since I joined realgm that most of ya'll on this board rate Russell way too high. When you talk to fans of other teams around the league you get the sense of his real value.
