People give Rich Paul a hard time about owing his career to LeBron....where the heck would Rob be without Kobe.

You'd be hard pressed to find two people who buy into their own BS more than Rob and Kobe. No wonder they gravitated to each other.

Re: FIRE MAGIC: Something Rotten in the State of Lakerland
Magic and Pelinka are really dropping the ball on this one. What is hurting me most in this entire thing is that Jerry West, our Jerry West, has the Clippers in the best position going into free agency and is about to school the league once more, sticking it to us in our own backyard. I am pretty certain things would not have gone this way with him in office, and it seems we're about to pay the price for sheer arrogance.

I just came to post this. Maybe I'm just moody and still angry at this front office, but I'm just sick of everything that comes out of his mouth. From the reports of everyone that was on the conference call, it sounded awful.

It's not just what happened but how it happened. They put themselves in a corner with their short sighted moves, brash nature and poor tactics. That cannot be debated.
If they succeeded in their schemes then things wouldn't be so glaring. But their failures with PG, subsequent fallout when KL became available and now complete, public failure has made them lose all credibility. They are clutch's puppets. Everything going forward is a three way negotiation between Clutch, FO and either the other team or players agent.

You guys remember in like '07 when Kobe said something along the lines of "We're talking about Jason Kidd, Trade all these **** and get him here" outside a Mall?
LeBron is the real GM (Haaaaa) and these shortsighted blockbuster moves are exactly what a Hall of Famer would want. This is why there are layers of authority in the workplace, to prevent someone with a narrow focus from mortgaging the future of the organization.

Re: FIRE MAGIC: Something Rotten in the State of Lakerland
So Kobe is done with the NBA to focus on his storytelling career. Fair enough. Why is Rob Pelinka telling us stories that don’t land? Just do your job man. You’re not a raconteur. We don’t need spin. Just do your job.
Why didn’t you speak out earlier defending Luke Walton? Why now after the deadline?
And what’s that nonsense about Magic talking to the team? Stop the spin. You’re not the PR dept.
Everything this team is doing is wrong. They’re hiding things they should be transparent about. They’re publicizing things they should keep behind closed doors.
It’s a shame. It’s a shame.
Nobody trusts you. Without or within the team. Nobody trusts you guys.

Jerry West offered to come back but they refused his offer.
This could turn out to be the biggest mistake Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka made. It was totally insane then and remains insane now.

Outsider looking in.
Lakers have always operated this way. Los Angeles is the premier destination of every player. Difference is that is obsolete nowadays with how fast the news travels and how easy it us to gang up against an individual.
Having Pelinka and Magic as the front also made it way too obvious on their dark intentions. If you want to execute such deed, might as well have a wholesome front man as a GM then have those two work behind the scenes.

Re: FIRE MAGIC: Something Rotten in the State of Lakerland
Magic said himself he'd resign himself if he doesn't deliver by next summer. So far his coaching career has been more successful than his front office job.
He's got rats everywhere leaking his trade proposals OR he's dumb enough to leak them himself and tank our young players value and outbidding himself all at once, he's got Lebron's camp undermining the coaches authority, he's got AD/bron's camp hit with a blatant tampering fine for the millionth time. Now Magic is the joke of the league. He put together a dysfunctional iso bball roster with no shooting in the summer (which reminds me of Byron Scott's archaic view on the game- no lesson learned there huh?), when he should've forced Randle to be a professional and accept the qualifying offer.
Magic's big mouth has put him on notice. Frankly, Magic's job should be less secure than Luke's.

Ok....but AD is gonna be 26 in a few weeks. He's got a long road ahead of him too.
You can hate the trade...you can hate Lebron. It's your life, thats all good. But let's not call signing a 25-year old top-10 talent "shortsighted".
You can take a 'glass half empty' approach to Magic (some prefer the 'glass is smeared with sh** view), and you can take a 'glass half full' view. He got the biggest fish. Got us out from Moz and Deng, and is working hard on a 2nd mega-star.
The truth is prob somewhere in the middle.

One guy was bootlegging NBA jerseys out of the trunk of his car and the other guy was the captain of Fab 5 Michigan and graduated with an MBA and JD from University of Michigan, something tells me Pelinka would have been perfectly fine in life with or without Kobe.
