I thought there was report from a beat writer of a rift between him and Magic last season due to Magic's lack of availability in the office, but I can't find that article anywhere. Did anyone else read something like that or am I going crazy?

The fact that he's in line to gain more power he seems like the kind of worker to take the blame and accept the challenge to right the mess when the going gets tough.

I'd hope we stop with the bullsh** dramatics and just stabilize the franchise with Luke and Rob staying intact. Despite injuries, having to use Rondo heavy minutes and Lebron/Kuzma's lack of defensive drive Luke has us in the top 6 defensively again in the last 11 games. He did what he could with a tragically flawed roster.
I remember that coming up too....

From everything I have read Pelinka is in the office everyday all day and puts in tons of time... We also don't know how much Magic trusted in Pelinka or allowed him to do his job and who was ultimately trying to strike the deals.

We'll see how this all shakes out but I agree on stability at this point. A key for fans is not to fall into the rabbit hole with all this backstabbing talk and trying to find the culprit when I think it was more a comment by Magic on the state of doing business in the NBA and not directed at anyone person.

Hmm, just listened to the Mason and Ireland show from earlier today. So they confirmed that it's a running joke in the office "where's magic?" cause he's rarely there. But they also said that might be a little part of why Magic left, cause he thought they were talking about him behind his back.

I can't see a scenario where Bob Myers and pelinka are both around. If Myers arrives, he'd clean house.

Why would Myers leave GSW?

They were partners for years and worked together under Tellam for years when Tellam had those two as his main subordinates and representing Kobe, T-MAc, Harden, KD, JO, Iverson, JKidd, and more to name a few.

I can see every way for them to work together because they literally worked under Tellam to power broker most the league that Fegan didn't touch back before there was a Rich Paul and or CAA.

LIke I said before to me they may swing for the fences. Kobe as President because he would immerse himself in it, like everything else he does, which Magic isn't willing to. And it would up his ring count and make him better at something than Michael, Larry, and others. I could also see Luke being kept and Phil being paid to consult and be his Tex Winters while Rambis becomes his Hamblen and Shaw his Clemons thus making his staff more effective, followed by getting Person or Hodges in as a shooting coach.

I wouldn't rule out JEanie turning to Kobe and Phil at all and them in turn saving the house they built, not Magic, not Kareem, not even West, which is Staples

This also feels like Myers using the Lakers to get a better contract from Warriors.

We need an outsider to be President and do what he thinks his best for the Franchise. Not cater to Lebron for 2 years and sell of all our remaining pieces. Kobe is not going to do this job. I'd give Pelinka the boot, or keep him as strictly a numbers guy with no say in actual talent acquisition.

The guy ABUSED the lottery system by shameless tanking for like 5 straight years, finally got 2 great picks out of it.

Sam Hinkie is a genius. I mean that literally. Check his background.

And what he did with Philly was exactly the right thing for that struggling franchise. That doesn’t mean he’d do that here; he helped Houston win multiple 50-game seasons when he was there. He’ll do whatever it takes to build a winning team, because he makes data-driven decisions. He wouldn’t care about Laker exceptionalism or selling Hollywood.

And that’s exactly what we need. No nepotism. No conflict of interests. No chasing the spotlight. Simply a competent decision maker with a background in analytics, business, and sports - but stays in the background. And of course, he’s brilliant with the will to execute.

Bob Myers is not coming to this mess. Why would he leave his baby in the Bay, that he built, just to start all over again? Going home is cool and all but if you got a good thing somewhere else why would you leave? Thats like saying I'm leaving my wife for a ex-girlfriend... Hinkie is a more realistic option...even though he’s not the best option.

If Jeanie is willing to offer someone the same full control that she gave Magic, what mess are we talking about? A guy like Bob Myers can step in, with Magic/Rob gone, and have a ton of cap space, no financial restrictions, numerous young assets, lottery pick, one of the best players in the game. It’s perfectly set up for anyone that wants to step in.

All the “issues” relate to how Magic/Rob handled their business, and they’d be gone.

Sounds good, but how do we get rid of #Pelinka? You think he steps down or gets fired? There's the option of having the new President fire him, but you are proposing a situation where Pelinka is gone before the new Pres comes in.
