Re: Fire Rob
Well for all the rob nuthuggers what do you have to say now that he wasn’t gifted Luka with zero competition from other teams? Gave up a fortune for a guy who literally can’t play more than half a season and one of the worst interior defenders statistically in the entire league. To be clear I think defense can be taught. Durability unfortunately can’t
Warspite:
Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

Sorry to hear that. I’ll leave. Thought opining was okay. I love the lakers, am generally optimistic.
I believe in defense and running the break. Showtime was defense first. Defense wins rings, not jersey sales.

I sure do hope Luka plays defense. JJ might reach him. I’m coming around to the signing now when we DO have a center.
Losing AD was a BIG F deal for those of us who intently watch defense. But I guess if you’re trading a defensive big for an offensive small, this is a good exception. Luka is indeed a generational talent.
Cheers, Doc!
C'mon Stan, don't leave. What makes this forum fun is us having different views and opinions. We will agree and argue every once and a while but we all just want to win in the end. Once we win it all again all these arguments and disagreements will be water under the bridge by then.
Stay. We cool.

Re: Fire Rob
Rob has only had one bad year as GM. The year after the title where for some reason we decided to not have shooting on the team. As far as other roster moves and drafting he's been fairly solid. Having said that it's so hard to separate his role as GM vs how much influence Klutch and Lebron have had on the team. Also let's be honest, the Luka thing is crazy. It indeed fell on his lap, but the negotiations on not using all of our assets is a major prop on his part.

This is actually the only sensible take here. Unclear why others are acting like 5 year olds doing victory laps and can’t acknowledge the luck aspect. To be fair tho dude, he then spent those assets he saved on a guy who hasn’t played half an nba season in his first 3 years lol. That being said, I’m over the moon we got Luka and I will acknowledge having a guy like rob who has connections from his agent days played a huge part, so maybe it wasn’t 100% luck and for that I bow down

Hey, between you and me....your 5 times more optimistic than I am. Take it from me.....don't let the drips on these boards, who can't stomach anything but their own koolaid get to you. F- them. This is a board where everyone gets to say what they wanna say....for better or for worse. You got your takes...I got mine.....they have theirs.
Do you....your a Laker fan...and I'm here to hear other Laker fans. Not to hear my own takes. It's the people who can't hang with that, that are actually in the wrong place.

Re: Fire Rob
And it's not lost on me, that alot of the people who argued with me over the years...telling me that AD was the greatest thing since sliced bread, and that I was a complete fool for even suggesting a trade.....can't even remember "old what's his name" now that a new shiny is on the team. All that talk of defense....and top 5 player on both ends....at least you actually believed it.
Fine...I'm a stick in the mud.....at least over the last 4 years. I'll cop to that. But there's also a fair share of dopey folks who smile and nod at whatever the Lakers put in front of them. I remember that horrid offseason when we signed Mozgov and Luol Dang. There were plenty of folks around here (a couple still around) trying to put lipstick on that pig.....it was brutal watching the mental contortions.
Ahhh...memories. That night, and the day we signed Carmelo were the two biggest lows for me as a Laker fan.

Funny....I'd flip that, and say Rob has only had one good year as GM.
I'll be fair and say I don't think the Westbrick deal was his fault. Although he doesn't totally get off Scott free, until I hear that he opposed it. His handling of getting rid of him certainly coulda been better. 3 second rounders for Finney-Smith??? I don't see that.

This thread might have to be locked at this point.
He secured AD. Won a title. Did mess up afterwards by adding Westbrook, letting guys walk etc.. Now he landed a **** whale and set the Lakers up for success for the rest of the "Lebron-window" as well as the next decade.

Cheers. I appreciate that.
That was one sour post of mine. Fully deserving of criticism. One negative post about Rob after having supported him always. He traded away our Bill Russell on defense for a guard whom the Mavs couldn’t stand.
But yeah, getting called negative because you believe defense is a must to win rings is interesting. My glass is always 3/4 full.
We DO now have a Center.
Without the Mark Williams signing, we’d not be a contender. Now we can contend. The lob threat of him alone will open up everything for Luka and cutters. Williams is such an athletic freak he can almost reach the top of the backboard. We now have a guy who can maybe cause some troubles for Wemby and Holmgren. AD was that, too, albeit too small. Luka? He can’t guard a chair. Let alone Wemby.
We have a center again, so I’m cool with Luka.
After hearing all the experts talk I realize my appreciation for Luka’s upside has also been skewed. I can’t stand spoiled brat entitled BS behavior crying to the refs, by sports gzillionaires, think he needs to man up a bit to be the Lakers’ face to the world. The whiney beeatch routine needs to be replaced with more adult type of leadership.
Glad it wasn’t AD and Christie for Luka and done.

1000% Listen, I was the guy that's been screaming to break this thing up, and even I was like "seriously??!" when I first read it. I do have fears that we just entered Harden 2.0 - I think that center Williams was a great get (sad about the pick, and Knecht)...but he's got some injury concerns. So yeah....I got issues, so it's certainly fair that someone who was perfectly happy with what we had should be able to voice concerns.
As it sank in for me.....I had to admit that this was what I wanted (well not exactly, but yeah). I asked for it! I stood on my soap box for over a year demanding major changes....so I'd better like it.
Is this the guy I woulda got? No. But he's a tremendous 25-year old talent. If the center works out....this could be something real. So yeah...I still have a few questions/concerns, but Rob and the FO did essentially what I'd been screaming at them to do. So for that, I gotta give them an A for this.

Re: Fire Rob
I like Luka…. But how can we honestly judge this as either a good move, or a flashy failure, at this point? It’s just a big trade right now…. Which is good insofar as the team desperately needed a shakeup…. But the jury’s still out…
Rob’s presided over one of the most disappointing eras in Lakers history if we’re honest…. I’ve always viewed him as a useful idiot for Klutch…. I haven’t seen enough yet to change that.

I still think he is, I know he is. By the stats, he is. Most experts agree he’s an elite defensive big. At PF, he’s a much better(!) defender than at C. That’s a scary proposition.
I’m not convinced we’ll be able to avoid them in the playoffs and if we do face them you’ll surely agree with me that he’s a total monster as a help defender PF. Much better than at C. He’s also a great offensive talent (multiples of 50 point games), but simply doesn’t have the take over mentality every night. I guess that’s your biggest rub, right? I agree with that criticism. But I love a shut-down defense and AD is a badass at it.
Not sure who wins that hypothetical series. Dallas just got really solid on defense with AD and Max. Scary good defensive roster. Kidd is a solid defensive coach. Seven games.
I disliked seeing Ingram and Hart go in the AD deal. Deng? Mozgov?
I’m very happy with Rob for getting us a center. Now, let’s teach him to play defense.

I think Dallas beats us, personally. Our boy Williams needs another year-two. I think Lebron and Luka overlap too much. While it will be fun, it's ultimately full of flaws.
Maybe I'm alone...but I think AD is the better player. I think Dallas won this trade initially....but when AD starts to wind down in a couple - three years...and Luka is entering his prime, the deal will flip.
