Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
How about Iggy + williams + speights for bynum + blake? I know everyone want to get rid of gasol because of his poor playoff performance. But I cannot see him play any worse than that. At his best, he can easily give us 20/10 any night.
On the other hand, Bynum played the best ball in the playoff and was still only giving us 15/11. And we all know he has injury history. We have shown that we can cope well when Bynum is injured (we will be lucky if he injure less than 20 games a season).
I think trading him for Iggy + williams will be a huge upgrade at our starting 5 (williams + kobe + iggy + odom + gasol). No more fisher being abused by penetrating pg. Iggy can be pippen for kobe. He can be the lockdown defender and the facilitator. For the bench, we will have fisher + barnes + artest + ebanks + caracter + speights (+ brown if we resign him) after the trade. If we can spend our MLE and LLE on kwame brown + vujacic. Then I think we are good to shoot for another chip next year.

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
Consider me on board on the Wizards deal.
The Lakers need to start thinking about the future as much as trying to stay competitive next year. I'm not high on Blatche at all, though. Who is? He's still technically a young guy but with a poor IQ for the game on both sides of the floor. I have doubts that he can ever contribute positively in a winning system, even in a lesser role.
I don't think it will be that much of an issue as it is in WSH, but can he adjust properly and contribute as a role player in LA? With the players we have, we might be able to mask some of those shortcomings.
Bringing in a top 5 prospect makes me want to jump on that deal as soon as possible. Tackling Blatche would be a little easier to swallow then. Going younger is a priority management will have to address eventually. And this seems like a fair deal for both sides.

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
How would you guys feel about Jordan Farmar outside of the triangle. He'd be very cheap to acquire, just the plain TPE and perhaps the Nets send a little cash even? I mean he really isn't that bad of an option in that case.
I have no idea how he played for the Nets this year, but if you have something of a committee at PG outside of the triangle:
- Blake the steady veteran that can play if the other team has a mediocre offensive PG
- Farmar can play quicker players fairly well and adds a new threat on offense
- Then you add a defensive oriented PG that can knock down the 3 ball and make good decisisions
I know it's not ideal, but it's better than going into next year in an offense that that's not the triangle with Fisher still playing.

Three Way Trade that I think is interesting ...
Lakers get: Dwight Howard and Jose Calderon
Magic get: Andrew Bynum, Jared Bayless, Lakers 2012 1st round pick
Raptors get: Blake, Bass and Walton
The WHY's:
Lakers are obvious, but by adding Jose Calderon you finally have a PG who can dominate the ball, make 3s and is Pau's country man--plus they can get used to playing together at this year's nationals.
Magic are going to push for Odom or Gasol, but the truth is that Bynum is about as good a player as they're going to get. I know the Magic are going to look to dump salary in this Howard trade so you might need someone to take on Hedo.
Raptors get to finally free themselves with the 3 years, 30 mill remaining on Calderon. Blake is a nice fill-in, Bass bolsters the front line with Ed Davis and Luke Walton is an expiring after next year.

Exactly.
Blatche has shown promise throughout the season, but you're right he does have a low IQ. But just the lotto pick alone makes this trade worth it. Plus this is the only trade that doesn't remove the Lakers from the Howard conversation by default. You could trade Gasol for Iguodala/Lou Williams but if you go after Dwight that pretty much defeats the purpose of the Philly trade, because you'd have to end up trading Iguodala to even have a serious offer. With the Washington deal, you get back potential trade bait in Blatche and a lotto pick PG to take over for Fisher and force him to the bench. This may just be my opinion but I think Bynum/Blatche looks better than Bynum/Gasol to a rebuilding team. But as I said, that's just me.

Doin it. Thank David Stern and the league-owned Hornets for pulling this off for us. Now let's sign a serviceable backup big and a 3 and we're good

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
Imadogg, that's a bad trade for nah'lins though not horrible. But they take on two bad contracts and get Bynum for CP3 and Okafor.
Magic are happy to swap Turk for Okafor but the Hornets wouldn't want to do that.
Secondly, this Wiz trade which I'm interested in, if we turn around and try to flip Bynum to the Magic, there's no way we pull that off without giving them Kemba Walker or whoever the #4 is also.

We need a PG and a better bench more than anything else. I'd try to trade for Johnny Flynn,Randy Foye or Eric Bledsoe. All three are young, athletic, play good defense and can score well. Then sign someone like Jason Richarson or JR Smith to bring scoring and athleticism off the bench. If we can improve in these two area we will be much better next season and back on top.

J.R. Smith as a Laker for the MLE? I wouldn't mind that. He chucks shots, but he's an explosive scorer and not a bad defender. I like Farmar more than those guys. I think he got a bad rap, but in the right offense he brings what you want from a backup PG. Add in an athletic SF and you've got a good group, perhaps even a great backup unit.

Jr Smith is perfect for this team since we need a scorer and shooter off the bench. He is also young(25 or 26 years old),and athletic and would allow Kobe to play a few minutes less per game in the regular season keeping him fresh for the playoffs. I think we are fine at SF with Barnes but agree that we need a PG. I still think Flynn could be a steal as he had a good rookie season but it looked like he fell out of favor with Rambis in Minnesota.

How much is Denver honestly going to offer him anyway? I think he'd be interested in playing for the MLE in L.A. I don't see why not. Chicago would be his first option but it's not like they won't have other options like Mayo so we'll see. Smith and Barnes are a good 2-3 combo. They're not great defenders but I'd say well dialed in they're both good (Smith gets a bad rap way too often).

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
JR Smith is a NUTJOB and I could see him getting in 8-10 fistfights with teammates throughout the season ... that said, DO IT MITCH ... I love JR's game!
Honestly I could see JR being able to prolong Kobe's career by playing quality SG mins and even forming a dynamic wing duo with Kobe playing the SF position. JR can really stretch the defense, is a better passer and defender than people give him credit for and honestly would probably be loved by Kobe and Artest as he just wants to win ... bad.

Smith-Barnes-Artest. Hell bring back Farmar too it would be the most attitude from a group of players I've seen in a while.

Kobe and Fisher would keep him in line. I don't think he would be a problem as he has never been around a winning environment like we have here. Artest had his problems and he's fit in fine. Smith would be a huge pickup this offseason.

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
I think if we can't pull off the Pau to Wizards trade, the best straight deal with the Magic would be as follows:
LAKERS TRADE: Bynum, Odom, Blake and Ebanks
MAGIC TRADE: D12, Jameer, Bass, Duhon and Q-Tip
Draft Keith Benson and LaceDarius Dunn in the 2nd round and
PG: Jameer/Fisher/Duhon
SG: Kobe/Q-Tip/Dunn
SF: Artest/Barnes/Walton
PF: Pau/Bass/Caracter
C: D12/Benson
In the above lineup our only holes are a combo 1-2 that can play D (if Dunn is stashed overseas for a year) and another center ... Delonte West and Kwamer Brown would work for me!

You think DEN will give Smith to LA? He's too valuable an asset to their team. Though they already have glut in the SG-SF areas:
Smith, Chandler, Gallinari, Harrington, sometimes Felton, Afflalo, Forbes
He's not lost in that rotation IMO. And again, he's too valuable.
Terrence Williams anyone? Anyone?

Terrence Williams is a nice player but not an upgrade. Smith is also a free agent and the only problem would be competing with other teams like Chicago that can offer him the starting SG spot.

He's an UNRESTRICTED FA dude, they can't keep him if he doesn't want to stay and he seems not to. Denver would rather get something than nothing in return.
