Testosterone and GH does not vary between lower and upper body. Basically full body workouts with high weight + low reps promotes muscular hypertrophy and hence higher natural HGH.

Its also a pretty thin balance because after a certain point in training it causes the body to release estrogen and hence reduce the testosterone/GH production.

I need to know that because with my ethnicity, I'm genetically pre-disposed to lower endogenous hgh/test compared to Africans and Caucasians. For any sports performance etc, I need to work 1.5x harder than the average guy.

So many racist jokes that could be made... I'll go with this one:

I thought you were Indian, not a Jew.

also fairly sure this wrong

high weight and low reps= building strength not hypertrophy

You're thinking of atrophy.

-trophy is development
hyper- is extreme
a- is "not"

hypertrophy: extreme growth
atrophy: not growth

m8 i did quite well in latin back in high school but thanks for da linguistics lesson

i just did a quick google search and wiki tells me that

"Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy is focused on increasing the actual size of the muscle, and less on increasing strength. Myofibril hypertrophy will focus more on strength increase and less on an increase in the size of the skeletal muscle.

Strength training typically produces a combination of the two different types of hypertrophy: contraction against 80 to 90% of the one repetition maximum for 2–6 repetitions (reps) causes myofibrillated hypertrophy to dominate (as in powerlifters, olympic lifters and strength athletes), while several repetitions (generally 8 – 12 for bodybuilding or 12 or more for muscular endurance) against a sub-maximal load facilitates mainly sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (professional bodybuilders and endurance athletes)"

and at least in the lifting world hypertrophy refers to sarcoplasmic hypertrophy

What's myofibrillated hypertrophy called, getting swole? Also I'm not a big musculoskeletal guy, but I'm pretty sure there should be a third type (or are there 4? I don't remember) of hypertrophy accounting for the third main muscle fiber type.

There was a discussion about that on the OTB the other day. Who the hell wants to be a body builder?

So I'm about at two weeks of not sleeping more than 6 hours a night and waking up at least 4 times per night. Finally giving up and took some NyQuil (cough was all I had) tonight and hopefully that helps. I was going to take one of my roommates lunesta's, but it expired a year ago and I'm a bit of a puss when it comes to pharm drugs, even though I'm sure it's fine - just less potent.

Anyone have anything over the counter they'd recommend? I heard nyquil makes something specifically for sleep. It wouldn't be for nightly use, just when I can't stand being tired anymore.

Damn legality of a certain herbal medicine that has faithfully and safely put me to sleep for two years :(.
