What are they doing.

Why do they have to be so creative.

If they want Lue just hire him and give him complete trust.

What a show.

It’s interesting how this thread has changed its view on Lue. Now it’s heavily unfortunate if he isn’t hired. It’s fandome to talk yourself into someone. As an outsider looking in, the Lakers would be much stronger with a Messina or an up and coming college coach

This isn’t a bad thing. Maybe we have our sights on something bigger.

In the next couple of hours, we will make the offer to Jason Kidd.

Acting like a mom and pop operation trying to cheap out. There’s no cap, if you fire him ahead of the five years it just costs you money, doesn’t prevent you from doing anything else.

Dude, it's gonna be Kidd, not Messina or "an up and coming college coach"

It is not my view on Lue has changed, it is more about the conduct of negotiations and how the Lakers handled themselves.

If they think Lue is the best candidate, and they clearly have moved to a stage where they are negotiating the contract, then they should not have asked their would-be head coach to hire an assistant he is not comfortable with.

Also Lue is already a championship coach. And championship coaches should have gravitas to them, enough that they should be given free rein. The Lakers should have known that already before moving on with the talks. :-?

Maybe the Lakers asked Lue that in order to proceed he needs to hire a more experienced staff, so Lue suggested either Thibs or Vogel. Lakers countered with Kidd, who has a reputation of lobbying himself for a job both in Brooklyn and in Milwaukee.

Well, LeBron is only around for another 3 years, why would we offer him 5? It kind of doesn't make any sense from our end... Also, 5yrs is a lifetime in NBA coaching years... Lots of coaches don't make it 5 seasons...

I don't know that I have a problem with us trying to keep it to 3 yrs... Even if it is just money... I think the odds are, you're going to be pissing away the final 2 yrs anyway... And who willingly does that?

Also pretty clear that Lue and his camp are leaking this stuff... Which is **** especially the way things are going for us right now... They know we're fighting public opinion right now so they're pouring it on... That alone makes me say **** him... Let him go coach some backwater team...

Ending talks with someone you offered a 3 year deal to is not being picky, it’s being cheap.

From the same reporters as the AD talks. Seeing a common denominator that the leaks are on our side

You got that bass ackwards. There are about 5 open NBA HC positions. There are a couple dozen of ex-HC, dozens of assistants and former assistants, hundreds of college coaches and European coaches. No shortage of supply.

If Lue doesn't get this job, I wouldn't be surprised if he never coaches in the NBA again.
