Roy indeed is slimmer. Saves his knees and hopefully, more mobile.

Lakers can't win with Kobe. When he's involved with Free Agents, it's all wrong, and he supposedly turns them off... When he isn't involved, he doesn't like them and turns everyone off...

Time to admit Kobe really isn't that big a factor in their decision making at this point, one way or the other.

What is your point ?

That the media needs to stop creating the story that what Kobe thinks or does is a major factor in what Free Agents do.

It's so funny. Somehow the GB twists kobe doing nothing to kobe trying to be relevant. Despite the fact that these haters find kobe relevant enough to post about him every chance they get.

From what I see HIbbert looks like he has a decent chance at returning to his peek form, and if he can give us that it'd be huge for us.

If i recall he had his best season a few years ago when he came in slimmer from his training in boxing and mma. Being slimmer will only help his defense especially compared to the smaller size of this era of big men. I could care less about him creating his own shots. He should be sniffing a double double with great rim intimidation if he comes in with the mindset he's talking about. Pacers fans are going to be missing him like crazy.

Hibbert is a nice addition.. I have serious doubts whether his performance will match his salary, but he's better than Sacre.

Pacers trade the Roy 2nd round pick to Cleveland for Rakeem Christmas. In case anyone was wondering.

How do you think Roy will do next season? He's lost some weight, but I don't think it'll improve upon his game play beyond what we saw at his peak a couple seasons ago. He does have a clean slate here which counts for something for a guy like Roy. Good for 20-25 mpg or his best is behind him?

Quite possibly be behind him but then again, he could just be entering his prime. He acknowledges that last year was bad for him and seems willing to work harf to improve. He is still just 27 or 28 so he is still young. If he comes in motivated and in better shape since he did drop some weight, he may finally play more than 30 mpg. But no reason to beleive he can't play his average of around 28 mpg.

Game changer could be worjing out with Kareem. Im optimistic about him this season. If he plays well and that translates to wins for us, I see him signing long term for us since he would find himself not wanting to change a good situation for himself.

I can see your point, especially in regards to his age. This is about the time where his experience should kick in to where he' should be able to just know how to play or just find a way to fit in. I do think this is why he started to take more mid-range shots. 30 mpg is far fetched though. Bigs like him (low post not good but should be ok on mismatches, can't offensive rebound, can't be a roll man, mid-range shot above the FT like is ok but not good/great) tend to not get a lot of minutes anyways, so whether he's in the best shape of his life isn't all that important. 28 mpg may be all we can ask and even that may be too much in an ideal situation, but given who his back-ups are, 28 mpg may just be where he'll end up at as you say.

I don't know if working with Kareem will help a whole lot. At least not immediately or even in the next couple seasons. At his age, he's pretty much what he is. Working on that part of his game should've been done 5-10 years ago so that he could be effective by the age he's at now.

Best thing to do is not to expect anything offensively from Roy. He himself said the team is full of firepower and he'll just focus his play on the rim defensively. Anything besides that will be bonus.

The thing I like with Hibbert is that he knows his limitations and he understands how the game is changing and is trying to work on it. Although it remains to be seen how much of a difference this will make come time for the season, I do like his mentality in wanting to adapt though.

Also think that having Black, Bass and Randle as our other bigs complement his game in that any of the 4 can be successful as a small ball 5.

I want to see how Roy and Bass do on the front line. I think it may be an underrated pairing where at least both will set good screens, hit some jumpers, and play with minimal mistakes on defense. I don't think this pairing is playoff good, but it may be Eastern Conference decent.

Hibbert's going to be a beast this season. Before the season is over, he'll be in the conversation for best Big Man again.

Randle and he are going to make each others lives so much easier, they're both going to look dominant.

ESPN hating.

Complete BS. Even with his subpar season, he would still have been an upgrade for the Lakers at C.

I'm just glad that we have an actual rim protector on our squad. Plus I like how he isn't saying he wants the ball and that he's going to focus on the defensive side and whatever points comes his way is a plus.

I think he'll fit in nicely with this squad.
He won't demand the ball. He will focus on D.
But I do hope the offensive scheme has him in mind.
They need to run some plays for him, keep him involved on offense so that he doesn't mentally check out.
He does not need to be the focus, but they should not forget him either.
I really think he'll pleasantly surprise a lot of the nay sayers.

Didn't want to make another thread since this is essentially the Roy Hibbert thread. But he has not failed to impress us so far. He's not on a superstar level but he's shown he is solid and better than anything we've had last year.

Then I chanced upon this article and then realized that we might have gotten more than we initially thought. Turning out to be a great signing especially for this young core.

http://m.ocregister.com/articles/hibbert-688291-lakers-team.html

Roy Hibbert has quietly, quickly become a locker room leader. He shares stories of his own struggles when teammates are frustrated. He takes rookies to lunch. When the Lakers all received a group text inviting them to spend a day firing capsules of paint at each other, it came from Hibbert.

“It’s a small thing,” Clarkson said, “but at the end of the day, it made us closer.”

“We didn’t have really guys last year that were going to do that,” he said, “take us out and just do things like team bonding events. But Roy’s actually done that and done that on a couple of occasions now.”
