An article on RGM:
Jonathan Givony suggested the Indiana Pacers may have made a mistake in not taking a chance on the upside of Russell as they discuss a Paul George trade with the Lakers. "The Pacers have not shown much enthusiasm for the Lakers' young guys," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "I think they think they can get better."

Kinda sums it up. Laker fans think DLO has all this upside, and think we have this great tank full of great youth, but it sounds like other teams are kinda ho-hum about anyone not named Ingram. I'd be curious how much Ingram would even get.

The blazers are looking to dump salary as well using picks. If and when they dump someone like Crabbe or Leonard it will be interesting to revisit this trade on how much the Lakers overpaid by.

I think he's the kind of guy that can be very good and still not contribute much to a team's success. Until last year, Harden was basically that guy.

Honestly that was just a lame narrative. Harden was a key (albeit not most important piece) on a team that made the Finals when he was 22.
Since he was 23 he was the best player on playoff teams, including being a runner up to the mvp in 2014 - 2015, and leading the rockets to 54, 56, and 55 wins in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

He has been the biggest contributor to playoff teams for a while now. Not just for the past season. The past season was when he did start knocking on the superstar door, though.

Russell's stats at 20 were not that far off from harden's at 20. Don't see him quite getting to harden's level but he has a lot of years left and plenty of opportunity to become a quality player.

I don't think Lakers fans realize how bad those Deng and Mozgov contracts are. Let's do a thought experiment, go look at Joakim Noah's contract. Now would you take on that contract for two low first round picks? How about 1 unprotected pick from the Knicks. You most likely say they would need to include Porzingis. And that's exactly the point. These Clarkson for for 12th pic trades arent realistic or plausible

Most Lakers fans think that even the team we are projected to build has no competitive chance with the Warriors--which is as soft as the guy they just shipped out.

Ty, I'll wait for your meltdown when we trade down to pick Fox or Smith and send an additional pick to Indiana for George.

And when that doesn't happen, I'll still have to put up with the bull.

Worth noting: I don't doubt that there might have been a discussion. But I'd be VERY VERY skeptical of there being much to it.

Warriors aren't going to be able to keep the team together for very long. Do people not realise that all their cap will be allocated to 5 players. At one point they'll be over the luxury tax with just 4 players. They got luck with the cap spike and Stephs below market deal. This type of thing will not happen again.

Yup. And since its been forever since the Lakers had a top 3 pick, they can't get Superstar hype/dreams out of their heads. The likelihood of a under-athletic guard with knee issues and a lackadaisical approach to the game is likely to become an all star and franchise cornerstone is questionable. I'm pretty sure thats the reason they couldn't even get a low lottery pick or a PG13 deal done with him. I think he'll be an NBA and maybe losing the LA lifestyle will help him get his priorities in order but its likely he was never going to live up to the potential in LA, if at all. Beasley never did and he was a much better prospect than DLo as a second pick. Can he be Harden 2.0? Possibly. But so can dozens of other young guys in the league if everything breaks right.

I think Mozgov is the worst contract in the league, I'd just have preferred the approach of "wait 2 years, pile on assets, then see what we can do from there ie trade mozgov when it's a juicy expiring. With this approach, we'd be closer to being in position to build a championship team 3 years from now than we will 3 years from now with the current approach.

I'd preferred to have kept Mozgov's contract, and traded DLO for 2 late first rounders. Without having to take back mozgov, I'm sure someone would give up 2 late first rounders.

The reason there is a divide with this trade is for people who think the lakers should be in win now mode, it IS is a good trade. But it's not the trade for a rebuilding team.

If this trade ends up getting is PG without giving up Ingram or #2 then I will take back everything I said because having PG will help rebuild AND help win now.

they're rubbish. Sure they're going to be subjected to Mozgov which is disgusting, but he could very well turn it around also (knowing our luck) and Russell is the best young player they've had for years.
