Salary wise Yes trade fails ... I recommend using https://www.spotrac.com/nba/trade-machine/_/year/2024/team1/lal

Now that Lakers got Luka ... You're going to have to overpay to get Kessler more then ever now ...

He won't come cheap and FRP will be needed IMO, maybe another team could get Involved?

After Ainge got hoodwinked by Nico into helping the Lakers, you best believe that dude wants 2FRPs and Knecht or Reeves.

If they could get Walker Kessler for the '31 pick, removal of protection of the '27 pick and Knecht, they should do it.

They would have:

Reaves - Luka - DFS - Bron - Kessler
Gabe - Shake - Rui - Vando - Hayes - Wood
Plus whatever buy-out veterans they might be able to pick up (best case Lonzo or CP3).

More importantly:
Ïn summer of 2026 they would have Doncic and Vando plus 60M in cap space (assuming Lebron retires) as well as the ability to retain both Kessler and Reaves with their low cap holds.

If they havent updated the roster so its competive in 26 luka wont resign. Thats simply the way it is. Luka wont go into a rebuild

I was hoping maybe a second trade for Kessler was already tied to this deal, that Rob used Nico’s help to make it so with Ainge.

Luka makes any team competitive and I would argue that adding a quality big, such as Kessler, Claxton etc., would make them legit contenders right now. The reason why i think Kessler would be ideal is that he both fills a need at the 5 while being on a low enough deal that he can be kept long term. Along with Reaves.

Ofc not. Those two should be the core of the new Lakers team... Good contracts too. But then again, there might be certain somebody in the current Lakers team that will push for trades right now and not later (when there are good center opportunities to be had).

I’ve seen a lot of meltdowns on the GB over the years.
This one is of epic proportions.
Folks are tripping over themselves trying to figure out who they hate more: the Lakers, Nico, LBJ, the Mav owners, or Rob.

Love how the Laker fam is keeping it classy.

Imagine if you are a basketball fanatic living in Sacramento or Minnesota or Memphis and you see report that the Lakers acquire another superstar. :banghead:
I had the same feeling when the Yankees get rid of their weakest batter in Alfonso Soriano to get the freaking A-Rod from the Rangers, how is that fair.
Bill Simmons said it best, almost every decade they do this.
Get Wilt, Get Kareem, then 80's get Magic, then 90's get Shaq, 2000's get Lebron then AD and now Doncic.

Agree 100%, I hate to lose Knecht, but you need to include a quality player to get Danny's attention...

I like Dalton but if we could get Kessler with this trade then let's do it.

I'm conflicted on that but I will say gun to my head-
I know Reaves is going to put the work and development in, he's already a better player for now, and his heart is needed on the team.

I think we can all agree we really want Kessler but if Ainge wouldn't budge, what do you guys think about Mark Williams?
The guy actually has comparable numbers with Walker, 16pts,10 Rebs, higher ORTG,DRTG,PER etc than Walker at 23 years old.
Just dropped 38 pts last week and averaged 22pts last 2 games.

If yes, at what cost? FRP, and which current players?

A lot can happen In the next 2-3 days ...

Rumors have Vucevic coming to Lakers ... Not a fan of It, but would be ok for the time being.

The ball movement INtoday's game vs clippers 2nd half (that I watched) was damn beautiful ...

VAndo and DFS defense man :)

With AD gone i dont think Vuc should be a target, although offensively Reaves-Luka-Bron-DFS-Vuc would be a nightmare to go against.

If we're keeping Reaves my lineup is.
Luka, DFS, Vando, Bron, Rui unless we get a centre of course.

Reaves off bench

if we can't get, Kessler, Turner, Poeltl then I'm going for Day'Ron Sharpe, not sure what his worth now things might have changed recently.

Guys like Day'Ron Sharpe and Jalen Smith would be nice, but they're playing well in a back-up role at 15-17 mpg at this point, so we shouldn't expect them to that big of an upgrade.

I'm still all-in on Kessler. I get that Ainge is asking for everything, but that combination of age, fit and contract is ideal. If it cost Reaves, then so be it. Get back Svi and Sexton as wel and move on.
