The best options at PG for the Lakers in free agency seem to be 4 guys Felton, Will Bynum, Livingston, and Blake. I personally think the best option outside of Felton is Bynum he won't start but he and Fisher could be a very good combo at PG and if the Lakers can move up in the draft and get a rookie like Bledsoe or Avery Bradely or Armon Johnson that would solidify the PG position for the Lakers. If Brown opts out which I dont think he will but many others think he is the Lakers should let him walk and begin pursuing Mike Miller to replace him. He would give the Lakers the 3pt shooter they need and also a PG/SG/SF off the bench. The last couple issues the Lakers have are the Powell and Benga i'm ok with both being gone next season but since it seems like Powell is Kobe's best friend on the team he may come back but only at the minimum if he leaves the Lakers should give a serious look at Mahinmi from the Spurs he's younger than Powell a better defensive player and may even be cheaper than Powell. Benga I think is gone he can be easily replaced with with a rookie. Of course resigning Fisher is a priority but now that the Lakers have won the championship again I think that can be achieved fairly easily maybe around 2 million a year for 2 more seasons.
2010-2011 Lakers roster
PG. Fisher, Bynum, Bledsoe
SG. Kobe, Miller, Sasha
SF. Artest, Walton
PF. Pau, Lamar, Mahinmi
C. Bynum, rookie or minimum level vet.

say we buy a pick from either Atl, Min, or Mem....I believe Atl has already indicated they want to sell their pick, Min/Mem have multiple picks and is already stacked with young players, I think we should buy either teams pick in the Teens and use it on a PG or a C, we all know Bynum is no Iron Man.

Re-Sign Derek Fisher to a two year, 5 million deal.
why?
While he's no longer the 30+ MPG player he was before, his poise in the crunch time is some of the best of any role players I've seen. You have him start the game, and then rest towards the middle of the game, and then bring him back for the crunch time.

Re-Sign Josh Powell to a two year, 2 million deal.
why?
He's quite content being on the bench for the Lakers, and in the regular season he actually gets some minutes. Phil trusted him enough to put him on the floor in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Sign Randy Foye/Steve Blake to three year, 9 million deal (Part of MLE).
why?
The Lakers need to bring new blood to the point guard position, and both Randy Foye and Steve Blake can provide that spark. Offer them both the same contract, and the first to accept gets the deal.

Sign Jermaine O'Neal to a two year, 5 million deal (Part of MLE).
why?
He wants to win a championship, and the Lakers could stand to add more depth to their roster. Doesn't have to be the star he once was, but play good defense and knock down the open shot and rebound.

Sign Rasual Butler to the BAE.
why?
Add another shooter to bring off the bench. They could in theory have a great three point shooting team with a lineup of Foye/Blake-Vujacic-Butler-Artest-Gasol. Gets spot minutes to help spread the floor.

Offer Shannon Brown a three year, 9 million deal (player option on third year).
why?
Our energizer off the bench who provides some amazing highlights. If he takes the deal, good, if not good luck in the rest of your career Shannon Brown.

Offer Shaquille O'Neal a Veteran Minimum deal.
why?
If Shaq wants to finish his career as a Laker, than he'll have to come on a veteran minimum deal. Like Brown, the deal is on the table, and it's up to O'Neal to decide whether he wants to take it or not.

2010-11 Los Angeles Lakers
PG: Derek Fisher / Randy Foye (or Steve Blake) / (Shannon Brown)
SG: Kobe Bryant / Sasha Vujacic
SF: Ron Artest / Luke Walton / Rasual Butler
PF: Pau Gasol / Lamar Odom / Josh Powell
C: Andrew Bynum / Jermaine O'Neal / (Shaquille O'Neal)

And yes, I've messed around trading Bynum, Odom etc all season here and on the Trade board but the reality is they are not going anywhere. Even Walton going is a reach. But here you go:

Karmaloop i think your plan will leave the lakers with a near 100 million dollar payroll. And daadyfivestar ur plan sounds good but I dont see the Lakers bringing back Crittenton and Calderons contract is way to long for the Lakers taste right now. I dont see the Lakers adding anyone with anything longer than a 2 or 3 year contract threw traded or free agency.

^ Walton already goes that long, and he doesn't play but 5-8 mpg.
Calderon comes only if Walton goes. Their deals are same length. Calderon is paid avg of 4m more per yr, but Walton + MLE PG = more pay than him. If no Walton+Vuja, then no Calderon. That is the only financial way to do it.

I remember SB saying he wanted to look around in FA, I kind of hope he gets a good deal somewhere, because I think he expects a much bigger salary then he deserves.

It's a 2.2M player option.

Take the money we were going to give Brown and give it to Shaun Livingston instead. He would probably jump at the chance to play here, he would log solid minutes too with his versatility.

Lakers will be active this off season, they have to be with all their free agents.

Wojnarowski (sp?) said that this summer players with 2 yrs left (ie Posey) will be just as valuable as expirings (ie Sasha) because owners already know they will lockout '11-12 and not have to pay that 2nd year... they are just buying the first year.

Does that change who LA goes after or make taking on a player with '11-12 money owed more desirable because that salary won't matter?

I like the Walton/Sasha for Calderon deal. That seems reasonable for both teams, and it allows us to throw our MLE at Miller.

Damn we have Luke looked in until 2012/13. Only if he had one less year. If this rumor is true then Luke would have been just as valuable as Sasha and a Luke + Sasha for Hinrich deal could have been something LA would have been able to throw at the Bulls.

If the Wojahowski rumor is true then the Lakers should totally put together a package to get Posey and Collison to LA. I say get Farmar to sign his qualifying offer and put Sasha with him and send them to New Orleans.

Off-Season Idea #1:

Send world's biggest flower arrangement to Memphis, along with a lovely (hand-written) note, reading:

"Thanks for the collusion. Miss you."

Knowing the Hornets history it wouldn't surprise me if they gave up Collison for very little to save money. But they would probably want more from a conference rival.Out side a trade like that the best options the Lakers have in free agency are Felton, Will Bynum, Livingston, Foye, and Blake I think in that order.
