It was an elbow shot, to the back of the head, wound up (MAKING IT INTENTIONAL; it was impulsive, but it was STILL INTENTIONAL, even if he didn't think about it) -- incredibly vicious. And Harden didn't see it coming.

He's definitely concussed -- he had light sensitivity and headaches and didn't come back out of the locker room after initially being cleared. They wouldn't sit him if he were 'ok'. Concussions can seriously hurt you long term, so this is a serious injury.

Summary: ron artest intentionally blindside hit a player with his elbow, and they are injured and potentially out for the rest of the season (see: Gerald Wallace, Blake Griffin in college, Najera; CONCUSSIONS ARE NO JOKE)

Artest should be banned for the rest of the season + 20 games next year if they really want to send a message that elbow shots to the head ARE NOT OK.

I couldn't possibly agree with you more.

^ these guys need to look up 'blindside'...

Harden was an idiot for running up on Artest like that but the elbow was brutal...

Artest was just flailing around and happened to connect. He wasn't even looking at him at the time...

Guys do that all the time. They just never are unlucky enough to connect.

I bet they do throw the book at him though. Which I don't think is fair. But I guess it is the way it is.

I'd expect 3 days if fairness and similar acts are taken into account. But I'm guessing end of the season.

I wouldn't call it fake sympathy as much as trying to take a global view. Like I said, if Harden had done that to Kobe, we'd all be going ape isht...

a global view would consider Harden putting himself in the way. do you consider a driver at fault for running over somebody who purposely ran into a speeding car? sure the car may have been illegally speeding, but you can't dismiss the victims actions.

Since the league hates us I'm pretty sure they're going to give Ron an unfair amount of suspension days and a unfair amount of a fine. And I'm pretty sure David Stern will veto the Ramon Sessions trade and give us back Kapono and Walton.

not horrendous, global fair. not saying that the driver or Artest don't deserve what's coming to them they do, but Harden does not have the moral higher ground.

reminds of that simpsons episode where bart and lisa are indiscriminately throwing kicks and elbows and tell each other its your own fault if you get in way and get hit.

I don't see how that matters in the slightest. I mean, I've said repeatedly that I don't think Artest was intentionally trying to hurt anybody. But unfortunately for him and us, that doesn't matter in the slightest, either. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to blame Harden for getting smashed in the face with an elbow. Seems kind of like blaming a rape victim for wearing a short skirt...

you don't get on anybody's grill like that during a celebration and expect not get hit. yeah yeah it was brutal and MWP should get five games suspension, but come on! take the tampon out and man up.
I got ya back snaq, it was straight up idiotic to even get in somebody's path after they scored. I think he'll only get 3 games.

Well when the game is physical, and someone makes a huge play. You're not going to body them up right after they make the basket. If you give contact, you should expect contact (not an elbow to the head, though).

People talk about Ron's history based on how long he's going to get suspended, but based on Ron's history why are you going to body him up after he makes a huge emotional play?

I don't even know what's being argued in this thread anymore.

Have we come to the consensus that Metta deserves the suspension?

I agree that Ron deserves a suspension around 5-6 games or so. I don't think it's fair to add games on due to someones past history, especially since that same person hasn't been a problem in the league for some time now.

I've been reading some of the stuff on the GB, and in this thread, and getting defensive about it, too. As usual, most are totally overreacting.

At the same time, I just can't imagine how every single one of you guys defending Ron wouldn't be foaming at the mouth with rage if Harden had done that to Kobe.

Sorry, but that's straight-up hypocrisy to me.

you know, i do agree with people that say that harden was an idiot for trying to get in MWP's way after he scored. he was clearly trying to be a nuisance. to me though, that merits a nice shove, not an elbow to the back of the head/neck.

to go off of snaq's analogy. its like that pedestrian that jumped into the car's way, got run over, but then the car put it in reverse and made sure the job got done. getting shoved outta the way would've been like the car hitting the person, putting it in reverse is like cocking the elbow and swinging away.

Sedale it was a bone head move on Metta, but it was also a dick move on Harden to even cross his path. Something was premeditated about that from Harden, but nobody will own up to it. Somebody needs to ask Harden what the hell he was thinking ? I'd love to hear what he was trying to do basketball wise for the next play.
