D'Angelo Russell has bone bruise on right foot

D'Angelo Russell limped to the sideline Thursday, not a great sign for the No. 2 pick in the draft. Or the Lakers.

Russell made it through the morning practice session with a bone bruise on the bottom of his right foot, though the Lakers weren't sure if he would sit out the afternoon session, or maybe even Friday's practice.

Russell tried to downplay the soreness and knocked an iPhone out of Roy Hibbert's hands when his teammate tried to snap a picture of the foot.

But then Russell had a pertinent question for a Lakers employee who told him it was time to talk to reporters.

"Do I have to stand up?" he said.

He didn't. He sat in a padded chair while media members circled around him.

Russell said he needed to ice the foot more often after practices.

"It's like when I stop, it tightens up," Russell said. "It's just a bruise. It's all good. We'll figure out some different ways around it."

Frazier and Holmes are barely being mentioned even in scrimmage lineups. But still very early.

Excited to see our lineup during preseason.

Too much standing off as well as very limited movement of the ball often.

But still to early. Wanted to see more of Randle though.

you have guys breakaway dunks and you're wondering why there's not more off-ball movement?

Their legs are dead! They're resting on offense since it's more acceptable than resting on D.

These practices are like 3.5+ hours long, two-a-days...to watch a training camp scrimmage and get your hopes up is to completely disregard that, like with anything: it's a process.

Sometimes I worry the mind sets I read on here. Expectations high and hair-trigger judgements.

Not enough Randle? This was the end of the scrimmage at the end of a near 4 hour long practice. By Trudell's account it was Randle and Clarkson who stood out on Day 2, IIRC. As a Lakers employee, Trudell was actually there the entire practice rather than the rest of the media.

Let's try to not draw too many conclusions on these young guys until at least All-Star break, but even then think of what the perception of Clarkson was then and when the season ended. It's gonna take time.

Not sure if this is an over-reaction or not, but I am a little worried about Hibbert. I thought he was going to be in better shape than he seems to be. I expected to pretty much see complete dominance from him against this competition.

It's really hard to look at scrimmage games with any sort of seriousness. Anyways glad that the first preseason game is just two days away. The offseason just seemed incredibly long to me this year.

Yeah, haven't seen Hibbert even playing in the videos I've seen, but the last 20 seconds or so of this one Byron talks about how he's happy with Roy's defensive leadership so far:

Medina tried to ask about Roy's running and Byron answers with a diplomatic smile on his face, but I don't think much can be expected from a slow 7'3" guy on such marathon-type days. I just hope he's in good enough shape to anchor the D for 25-28 minutes a night, which is in-line with his previous minute averages...especially if he lost weight.
