Re: Woj: Dlo & Moz to Nets for lopez and 27th pick
personally, i think this signifies that were trading for george real soon. we picked up another asset in this trade. so we'll pair that with clarkson, randle, 28, and deng. for paul and monta? or some other **** on their team they dont want anymore.
doing so, frees up enough cap space for summer 18 to sign (2?)max player not including georges contract. ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR they did this to make cap space for a randle extension (Plan D, if were continuing mitch's escape routes from the past 4 seasons)

Dumb and dumber will probably trade Ingram for it.

LA friend said the deal is to finalize PG for 27,28 and Randle.

I don't like Russel but this is just not a good enough trade for us, I get dumping salary but this deal can be done midseason if we were not satisfied with Russells improvement. A team like the Nets are gonna be desperate all year long and would do this trade at the asg. Not a good trade period. Unless Russell stops developing then we win.

You better assemble a playoff contender team in one year Magic, or you will eventually become one of the most hated persons in LA.

We unloaded one of the worst contracts in the NBA and got a first round pick back. I'm not mad.

All you need is a team with cap space who can absorb that salary or send us expiring back. For a talent like Russell it wouldn't have been hard to find.
I mean, that's what Lopez is -- an expiring contract. We just have to deal with him for one more year.
But we still have Deng and Brooklyn has the space to absorb that salary too.
I'm assuming they didn't want to absorb two terrible contracts, and we probably figured dumping one is better than none. Besides, without looking at our cap situation, maybe one is all it will take to get far enough under for two maxes?
I don't want to come across like I'm defending this. Salary dumps to take a run at free agents down the road is about as unappetizing as it gets. It's like eating green vegetables -- blah. If LeBron was, say, 28 instead of 33, it would be totally different. I'm also disappointed given that Russell seemed like he could have been on the verge of a breakout next year.
But I understand the thinking. Especially with Ball apparently coming in, and the various concerns about Russell that have leaked out about his work ethic and professionalism. We'll just have to wait and see how this pans out. But to definitively declare it a bad deal right now seems a bit premature to me.

At least in this analogy there's a clear benefit to eating green vegetables. There is no clear win here. There is no guarantee anything we're hoping for pans out, and if it goes wrong, we're dead in the water. This HAS to work or we're going to be looking at another long rebuilding period.
Shedding Mozgov's contract is nice but if it doesn't bring in a free agent it's not worth it.

I don't love it, but I like it. DLO at the 2, not playing defense was never leading to a championship level team. Plus his immature attitude. Peace.
This is obviously a precursor to another deal. We aren't going to select two more late 1st round talents on top of the #2. Clearly going to move one or likely both 27 & 28.

At the end of the day if we can offload both Mosgov + Deng while gaining PG and keeping #2 and Ingram, I'm content.

Lakers FO making it clear that it's all about 2018 free agency for them.
To give up on DLo is monumental and mind-boggling for me.
I always felt trying to trade Mozgov for Lopez was a good idea, but not with DLo as the price.
Yikes. Lord help us all. This came out of nowhere

Re: Woj: Dlo & Moz to Nets for lopez and 27th pick
I actually think this is a fine deal, though I wish we didn't have to burn Russell to dump Mosgov. Russell already has shown that his lack of athleticism is going to be an issue, and he has knee issues. I think he can still be a really good player but he's likely not going to be an allstar and with the almost certainty of Lonzo being drafted, we weren't going to resign Randle, DLo and Ingram on top of PG or whatever FAs we signed. Plus, Lopez is better than Russell right now when healthy. Since the FO decided they likely weren't going to resign Russell, 1 year of Lopez isn't much worse than two of DLo.
In an ideal world we would have given Russell one more year to develop and trade him for better talent, but with this being the last year before the salary cap goes back to flat, its hard to find takers for that terrible Mosgov contract. I am lower on DLo than many Lakers fans to be fair, but I am also a Kupchak defender and not sold on Magic/Pelinka. I just think this is a solid move.

Keep in mind Lebron's max would start at ~ $40M+, so we still need to move Deng or more likely Clarkson.

I'm no expert on DLo but I never thought in a million years he would be traded for essentially a salary dump.

Re: Woj: Dlo & Moz to Nets for lopez and 27th pick
Unbelievable. I'm so fuc*ing pissed right now. My fav young laker gone just like that for that **** of package and the "hope" to get LeBron, really? We got robbed by the Nets, D'Angelo is the top pick they didn't have this year. Watch Russell score 20+ this year in Brooklyn and be a future All-Star, smh. I don't care what moves follow this one, Magic and Pelinka just ruined my night, how the f*ck i'm going to bed now,
Wish you the best D'Angelo, prove them wrong.
