Re: 2017 NBA Draft Thread: Lakeshow edition
I can't stress how lucky the Lakers are that they will be in a position to select Ball. Not only will he accelerate the growth of this team, but it will happen in the most natural way. At the end of next season we will come to realize that Russell will be our leading scorer, Ingram the 2nd option, Randle the hustle, board, and transition guy, and Zubac the midrange specialist. Nance and JC need to develop chemistry in that second unit and they need to have the pick 'n roll game down pat. Hurry up June 22!

Any love for Frank Jackson at 28, especially if we do trade Clarkson?

As a Lakers fan, I hope you are on the Ball. This should be our last lottery pick for a long, long time and I want to continue to root for the team and witness the players improving like they did during the NVE periods or better yet when Kobe arrived. I want to see Magic and Pelinka make moves each year to get us one step closer and closer to the Championship. I want to look forward to the playoffs and going deeper and deeper into the last week of the season. I want to not think about draft picks until June and consider how we can trade it to add a necessary veteran piece to beat whoever is our top competitor.
Not Yo Ham Lakers!

Re: 2017 NBA Draft Thread: Lakeshow edition
Someone on the General basically asserted that Ball is MCW 2.0. This was my reply, with some added notes for this board:
Ball's skill set is very different from MCW's. I'm not making a value-judgment as to whether Ball will be better than MCW, rather I'm simply pointing out that this is a lazy comparison. Ball, while having a unorthodox jump shot, can actually shoot from 3. Ball also has vastly superior court vision - which is not to be understated. Indeed, Ball's court vision is his defining characteristic. MCW has, at best, above average court vision.
There are much better "bust" comps for Ball than MCW. Ball is such a unique prospect, that one really cannot compare him in any substantive way to any player currently in the NBA. Rather, I would compare him to NBA players along a different rubric. That is, I would look at players who excelled in college, but their respective "skill sets" did not translate to NBA success for one reason or another. I think a better comp for Ball along this spectrum would be a player like Jahlil Okafor. Okafor had GLARING weaknesses to his game. But he also had one superior skill that most, if not all scouts, said would instantly translate to the NBA - his low post scoring ability. His success in the NBA largely hinged on whether this ability was so superior that it would ostensibly mask his obvious flaws. His success would also hinge on his ability to correct some of his flaws at the margins. Similarly, Ball has one clear, indubitable skill - court vision. He, like Okafor, has clear flaws as well - flaws that, also like Okafor, are magnified by current NBA trends. For Okafor, this was being able to pick and pop, and be a rim protector. For Ball, it's the ability to score off the pick and roll, and break defenders down with his handle and get to the rim.
As a Laker fan, this is what worries me most about Ball. That his game will not translate in the Okafor-ian sense.
Also, as a Laker fan, I want the Lakers to select Ball, and hope that he is the transcendent, franchise changing talent that I believe he can be.

Send Russell to Philly for #3 & grab Jackson or Tatum to pair with Ball & Ingram & call it a day...

Jackson or dump Mozgov/Deng and trade down a few spots.
sac town willing to part with 5 and 10 per rumors to move up and grab fox
wonder if ball+extras is worth tatum/markkanen + DSJ
can't really see us using 5/10 to draft monk, ntilikina, or isaac

Listened to the whole thing. Lots to like about this kid should he end up a hometown Laker.

Re: 2017 NBA Draft Thread: Lakeshow edition
You've won me over, TyCobb.
As we get closer to the draft, I'm watching lots of videos of and reading up more on Lonzo Ball, and I gotta say I've changed my mind a bit. Not typically a huge believer that a college kid can turn around an NBA franchise in a hurry, but there's no denying that this kid is extraordinarily quick at his length(!) and he has a way of switching gears onnthe run which is very special, no matter if in NCAA or NBA. And, of course, his court vision is über special.
Hard to vote against picking him after researching him a whole lot. At this point, I just hope Danny Ainge is smart enough not to pick a Celtics hater. He might. Ask Paul "wheelchair" Pierce. Keeping fingers crossed he realizes that Fultz is a better fit so that we get to pick Lonzo.

I do think there is a decent chance he goes #1 still.
I would love us to take ball and for Philly to be into 3 for Russell or Russell plus Clarkson or 28

Considering it is very unlikely that anyone picked at 3 will be better than Russell. No thanks.

Amen to this!!!!
How amazing would it be if it all turns out like that. We've had just about enough of all this losing and hopelessness. Its about time we start trending upwards and on to where we belong.
I for one have complete faith in Magic and Rob. These moves that Jeannie made were the most important ones.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
It really does verify what I've known for a long time. Kid is the real deal and the story is what puts it all over the top. He's gonna turn this whole thing around. Special kid and special player.
