But whoever signs with the Lakers will have to take a pay cut because they don't plan on using the mid-level exception to sign a player. They will be looking to sign an experienced big man for the veteran's minimum, which will be as much as $1.325 million for a player with 10 years or more of experience.

Better fit T-mac or Raja or Mike Miller?

Post#682 » by FortyDayzdone » Wed Jun 23, 2010 2:43 am

Who you got?

I will personally go with Raja Bell, lock-down defender, stays healthy, can knock down the 3, does not command the ball.
Though T-mac can create havoc for the opposing 2nd unit and can create his own shoots which the 2nd unit needed on the perimeter.
Mike Miller can hit the 3 as well, good passer, and has nice hair.

They are all big guards, Phil likes them big!

Tough call!

We talked about that a little bit yesterday Worth. I was pretty disappointed when I read that.

ouu it is a tough call but it ultimately comes down to who wants to sign for the cheapest amount of money. In my opinion i think t-mac would be the guy to go with because if he plays limited minutes he should remain healthy and we might have the best scoring gaurd off the bench in the league. (If he gets back to what we were accustomed to seein with him). Raja great defender and shooter but had previous beef with the lakers and kobe. Mike miller would be great also, just a straight shooter. tough call but i say t-mac

Raja Bell. He can knock down the open 3 and play lock down defense. That's all we need really. He has consistently shot above 40% from downtown and irritated opposing superstars, and will be able to give Kobe some rest. The organization has had success with Artest and Fisher - Adding Bell to a team already with Artest, Kobe, and tremendous length would make the team even tougher and stronger.

We have failed too many times on strictly sharpshooters in Radmonivic, Sasha, Walton, and Morrison to do it yet again on Mike Miller. Sasha has proven he can play defense and hit the 3, and Morrison has not had a fair chance yet - it would be much better to utilize them than blow the MLE on another 30 year old player who would be a defensive liability anyways.

T-Mac, on the other hand, just does not seem physically capable of playing for the team. Opposing players will just blow by him when he's playing defense. We already have Fisher fighting against retirement, T-Mac would be even worse.

raja bell knows how to be a role player, tmac doesn't.

If you have read the post about Laker's finances or looked at the Forum Blue & Gold, you know that the Lakers will have no money next year. I forget where I saw it, but I saw a fan thread talking about trading Sasha to GS for Charlie Bell (he was just traded today). GS basically traded away Maggette for expiring garbage; now they have Bell for 2 years @ about 4 M per year. He will be stuck on the bench behind both Curry & Monta. The trade makes sense for both sides, as Sasha's deal is expiring and he fits with what GS does. You add that to Raja Bell rumor, Bell would be perfect for the Lakers, especially if you trade away Sasha.

The Lakers would look like this:

PG: Fish (resigned, hopefully on the cheap), Charlie Bell, another PG (Jarvis C sounds about right)
SG: Kobe, Raja Bell
SF: Artest, Walton
PF: Pau, LO, Powell (resigned)
Center: Bynum

You let Farmer, Shannon, AMMO, Mbenga walk. Draft a crappy 2nd round big man to replace Mbenga and use the other 2nd round pick to fill in any other gaps. I don't think is the best lineup you could get, however it would be cheap & could be done realistically. With the signing of Bell, it wouldn't take the whole MLE, could still use the remainder on another FA

thats a pretty realistic scenario^^

the charlie bell thing was on the trade board, i didn't think bell was worth the 2nd yr on his deal, but if both farmar and brown are let go, its not a bad alternative.

Would Charlie Bell be brought in as a starter? I was really hoping for a starting PG if Farmar is gone and Fisher is back especially if there are is no big upgrade to the bench. For example a Mike Miller signing would make me feel good about Derek Fisher still being a starter.

I wonder if it would be possible to get Kyle Korver for less than the MLE. I would be happy with Steve Blake and Korver for the MLE or even Blake and Raja Bell. Perhaps the Lakers can pursue Roger Manson JR. I think we can get him for less than the MLE to split it with someone else.

The problem is money, options are limited. As much as I would love to get Kirk from Chicago, its not going to happen.

A sharpshooter? Not in this lifetime. And Morrison was just to save us money on Radman.

Assuming the money is the same it would be a tough choice but Raja will take $1.3 million and Miller will most likely want closer to the MLE $5.5 million... Raja actually fills more needs for us... Better defender, passer, handles, team player and a vet...

Raja career numbers from 3 is 41.1%, in the regular season playoffs is 46.6%. Miller ranges from so-so to crappy on defense, but has a better overall offensive game then Raja. Raja plays some serious D and plays with a chip on his shoulder (dude went undrafted, undrafted players always play like they have something to prove). I think Raja is the better fit, plus Miller's game has dropped off in the last couple of years, part of that Wizards debacle. I know Raja was hurt almost all of last year, however a non-shooting wrist injury shouldn't be that hard to come back from. The only problem with Bell is that he is 34, but if the price is right...

Mike Miller without question. Amazing shooter, strong rebounder and very underrated passer for his position.
