My brother-in-law asked my mom and I for my sister's hand in marriage before they studied abroad in Greece where he proposed to her.

there it is tugs. next time her family is holding a party of some type, walk into your future father in law's office where he'll be sitting on his leather chair. ask him for this favor and offer to be in his debt.

we actually haven't talked about pre nup.

so wait, you suggest that I ask the family first? hmmm... we actually talked about our marriage and the plan is in 2-3 years. initially, we decided to finish our masters first but we haven't even started yet.

so...

"I plan on marrying your daughter."

"You proposed to her already?"

"Not yet sir/ma'am. But I'm telling you for your permission and is asking for your blessing. :)"

"When's the wedding?"

"Probably in 2-3 years."

"Ok."

that's easy. :P

I don't remember exactly how my b-i-l did it, but it was more like he showed us the ring and was like it's really important to me that I have your blessing to marry your daughter/sister. We said of course and asked him when he was going to propose to her. Then he said when/where blah blah. We didn't ask when the wedding would be because that's all on the girl. They ended up getting married a year and a half later. They also both wanted to get their masters, but only she got hers cause he started his own business.

Alot of things will change a year from now, and even 6 months from now. I wouldn't worry about the wedding or paying for it till you propose and she says yes. First things first. :)

He had to go that far away from you to propose. What did you tell him to scare him off like that?

Comm Thread: Cliffhangers, Cliffdwellers and Cliffdivers

Post#756 » by Gek » Fri Aug 3, 2012 4:22 pm

When my brother-in-law proposed to my sister he asked both my parents, but called them because he was a few hours away.

Then while my sister and him were on vacation with friends I totaled my sisters car with a tree, but he proposed that night and made up for my mistake.

interesting story there, Clapton wrote that about Patti Boyd, George Harrison's ex-wife. It all started with the Layla album, apparently Clapton and Patti had talked about a poem/play Patti liked about a man who's in love with a woman he shouldn't, Layla. So Clapton writes a song with that title and pretty much declares his feelings there. George Harrison actually seemed chill about when he was asked in the 80s, even joking about the matter how clapton and he shared many things, stages, guitars even wives. He didn't seem truly butt hurt about it, maybe that's how rockstars work. It's funny there's an interview on clapton and when talking about this time, he says, "You just don't fall in love with the wife of a Beatle, you just don't do it." He ended up actually marrying Patti Boyd, but cheated on her as well quite a bit
