I agree with Slava too... Spell correction is both good and evil... Mostly evil.

What does your location Patas de perros means. not the spanish translation, but the actual meaning.

It means 'Dog Foot'... Or basically that you gotta be running the streets... You can't settle down.
"He's got the dog foot..." "Tienes pata de perro..."
Mexican Grandmas used to say it... But it's older than that... I believe it's Native American rooted.

I know what it means since I am fluent in spanish, but never heard the saying before. What is your ethnic background if you don't mind me asking?

Danish and English... Raised by Native American, French and Irish parents in SoCal... Married to a Mexican and Russain Wife from Commerce...
That narrow it down for you? 8-)

My dad is heavily influenced by his Native American lineage and influenced by Native Mexican culture, I've traveled a lot in Mexico and Central America, and have been closer to my wife's family, who are very sort of typical, old-school, Mexican-American from Los Angeles, for the last several years... They have traditional American values and don't identify with Mexico, but also heavily Mexican traditions.

When we're in LA around the family? Basically...

But "Mexican" in that uniquely old-school LA way... Where the old folks refuse to speak Spanish, and they get pissed if you call them "Mexican" before you call them American.

Interesting that you are very assimilated into Mexican culture. Especially since your wife is from commerce. My family is the same way except I'm not Mexican. Dad is from Spain and mom is from El Salvador. We speak mostly spanish in the house, but don't really identify with a lot of our old traditions. My parents are very religious so they are stuck in that side of tradition. Also soccer or futbol is a huge tradition especial since my dad was raised in Barcelona where its huge over there. still have yet to go watch a game at Camp Nou which is sad.

TLDR version: Interesting Cultural background that you come from etc etc.

I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't claim to have assimilated into Mexican Culture... I understand it a little and have experienced it some, but if I've assimilated into anything, I'd classify it as the Mexican-American Roots of Los Angeles... That's all I hear about from my family, outside of the occasional trips to Ensenada.

On being from Spain... My wife's dad is of Spanish decent from Mexico.

Mannnn applying for grad school is a bigger pain in the ass than I initially expected. The requirements and guidelines on the university's website are so damn ambiguous. I feel like I've sent over a dozen emails in the past two days just to clarify some things up.

why especially since she's from commerce? commerce is like 95% latino. you'd kind of expect to have mexican culture influence you around these parts.

or i may just be reading it wrong

Thats what I meant commerce is majority Latino. There are a lot of Latino roots especially Mexican in the city.
Didn't mean anything bad by it.

i just misread it then. seemed like you might have thought commerce's demographics were something else.

never thought you meant anything bad by it.
