At least in this analogy there's a clear benefit to eating green vegetables. There is no clear win here. There is no guarantee anything we're hoping for pans out, and if it goes wrong, we're dead in the water. This HAS to work or we're going to be looking at another long rebuilding period.

For sure. These are the risks you take. Jerry West nearly had to gut the Lakers with various salary dumps to land Shaq. But at the very least, if you strike out -- and again, it would seem as if George is pretty much a lock at this point -- cap space is not a toxic asset. You can roll that over, if you're smart, until you get yourself in the position you want to be.

I'm not going to belabor this too terribly much as I get the misgivings. I feel them myself. I'm just saying, I get the rationale, and we won't be able to fully assess this until we see what they do with the cap space they obviously made this move for.

We didn't, that's why this is such a ridiculous deal. We could've kept Ingram, Ball AND Russell and dumped both of those contracts somehow, especially considering we currently have Indiana by the balls. We just gave up one of our best assets, and our best player next year. Now we're going to win 20-25 games and hope that we can lure one of the Top 2 players in the league on the strength of Paul George? We're going to strike out again, just like we have the last two years and we'll have given up one of our core young players to boot.

I might get killed here, but I'm not mad actually. I was really high on DLo, but, personally, I just don't see him as a winning player in this league. I think Magic saw the same in him. I think he has maxed out as a player, and will only improve on the margins. Could be totally wrong, but I've soured on him a lot. I don't think he could ever be the third best player on a contending team.

Either way, I wish him well.

Same. Love his game but his personality reeks and will probably prevent him from becoming a plus positive key cog player on a championship team.

I'm assuming they didn't want to absorb two terrible contracts, and we probably figured dumping one is better than none. Besides, without looking at our cap situation, maybe one is all it will take to get far enough under for two maxes?

If LeBron was, say, 28 instead of 33, it would be totally different. I'm also disappointed given that Russell seemed like he could have been on the verge of a breakout next year.

But I understand the thinking. Especially with Ball apparently coming in, and the various concerns about Russell that have leaked out about his work ethic and professionalism. We'll just have to wait and see how this pans out. But to definitively declare it a bad deal right now seems a bit premature to me.

Keep in mind Lebron's max would start at ~ $40M+, so we still need to move Deng or more likely Clarkson.

Copy that. Even with that space, LeBron feels like a massive long shot. And given his age, it's a lot less exciting than if he was, say, 28. Who knows; maybe he'll take less? I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Philly fan here, I've just come to say congratulations! This move is the first to getting PG, and I'm assuming LBJ the following year.

Surprised to see so many upset. Mozgov is a horrible deal and you knew you were going to have to attach value to him. Dlo was the cost. But I'm assuming you're getting a top 15 top 20 player in the league back AND probably puts you guys as first or second choice (you and the Clips) for LBJ next year
