I am not one to feed the rumor beast, but this time I will indulge...its just too good to pass up.
You guys have pretty much covered all angles of this proposed trade. I would just like to add my take on trading both Kwame and LO.
Gasol would more or less obviate the need for LO. If LO were a guy who could come off the bench, then having both would be fantastic. But LO is just not that guy, imo.
I dont like the idea of playing LO at the 3, especially not with two studs down low, in Pau and Bynum. We would need a shooter at the 3 to spread the defense (Radman, maybe even Luke if he ever puts it together this season), or a slasher to gobble up the sweet passes our bigs are capable of dishing (Ariza). LO would only fit in on defense, having him next to Pau and Bynum on the defensive end would be plain nasty. Length, agility, and instincts across the board.
If this trade goes down, its time for our 3s to earn their keep.
Oh...and look out for Kobe as MVP!

Those scrubs in Odom and Brown are giving us NOTHING, Pau Gasol > Odom/Brown easily.
Yeah, well I didn't start the rumor...
It was proposed that you (Memphis) wanted to cut salaries and wanted to dump Cardinals while taking back expirings...
Kwame is a decent 2nd or 3rd string C/PF but a really nice expiring...
Odom is a solid 3rd scoring option on any team and a monster on boards, his contract isn't horible for what he is, and becomes an 'expiring' next year I believe... Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
This might be viewed as a good move within the confines of the money issues surrounding this rumor.

Since the main rumor is the Griz are going to acquire Collins from Jersey it makes me far more skeptical they would take Kwame in a Pau deal and to me less likely anything would happen with us.
Having Collins, Kwame and Darko all on the same team makes no sense by any standards what so ever. Even for an expiring.

odom and mihm to minny
ratliff, simien, kwame, sasha (all expiring), picks to memphis
gasol, cardinal, darko, navaro to la
the only problem i have with the entire logic of this article is that if expiring deals is all the grizzlies want - there's no way they chose us over miami who have the expiring deals, even have a pf they grizzlies would like and the heat can now give up - in haslem, but most importantly - they also play in the east.
and as bad as miami have been - i don't think riley misses an opportunity like this.
hope i'm wrong though.
that trade at the top of my post works for me...

swift >>> collins. ive seen swift play and hes actually pretty good. collins is just horrible.
anyways i really hope we get pau instead of kidd. kidd isnt a good fit in the triangle while pau is a great fit. we need a dominant pf more than a great pg. fisher is the best pg for the triangle and farmar and jcritt are great off the bench

Really don't see how it affects this. Bad contract for bad contract. Instead of Swift on the bench, Collins will replace him on the bench.
if anything - i think this deal may mean that kidd is staying in n.j. since swift could actually be somewhat effective playing with kidd.

Sorry, guys...but I'm not sold on the Lakers acquiring Gasol. Don't get me wrong - he is good player, but...
1) Andrew Bynum: Bynum is a back-to-the-basket player, similar to Gasol. Right now the Knicks are having difficulty playing two low-post players on the floor at the same time. Couldn't the Lakers have the same problem when Bynum returns, especially given that Kobe and Odom float down low from time to time as well? Also, Bynum is pretty young. How would he feel about this addition to the team after all that he did to improve this summer? Could he regress?
2) Triangle: Phil Jackson has never been a fan of making big midseason trades because it takes players time to learn the triangle offense. Would the addition of Pau help or hurt the team this year while he learns how to fit in this unique offense?
2) Lakers are solid without him: The Lakers were playing great ball before Bynum and Ariza went down with injuries. Once they return, there's no reason to belive that the team won't get right back on track.
Just my thoughts.
