I somehow got on Wale's Wiki page and subsequent clicks and clicks and clicks gathered an interesting back-story (at least if you've eat mallows recently):

TIL: Wale's style is characterized as Go-Go influenced (Wale himself has spoken to this, 1st and 3rd albums are themed towards this). Go-Go got big in the 80s and 90s based out of DC (Chuck Brown - who recently passed away and Wale shouts out to at the end of Clappers and in its music video - was the creator of the Go-Go genre). Go-Go clubs became plagued by violence. A popular chorus/saying in Go-Go was, "DC don't stand for Dodge City." This is ironic because the Wizards were the Bullets at the time.
