No sense
that makes

this team desperately need a legit 7 ft center right now who can protect the basket. last game looked like a practice dunk game for blake and jordan. if the FO can't see this and not make a move on dally who's value is at an all time low right now. then i'm predicting the same old offseason like we saw the last two years.

Why in the world would we want to get better this year when we're out of playoff contention and in a spot to retain our pick? Makes absolutely no sense to do so.

I pose this with no sense of the Lakers or Laker fans view of Isaiah Thomas and his contract, or what LA's thinking is on the PG position for the future, but still curious as to your reaction to this trade prop...

-Isaiah Thomas
-Suns 2015 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

For

-Steve Nash 9.7 million dollar expiring contract
-Ed Davis
-Lakers remove protection on this year's pick

this season is over before it started......just started unloading and getting more picks!!!! Its pretty obvious mgmt. doesn't care one way or the other IMO, they didn't anything once Nash went down, haven't used his med. excemption, didn't do anything once Randle went down and haven't even heard a peep of rumors regarding us in the trade market.

There is absolutely no incentive to remove the protection on our pick. It looks like we will be top 5. Not really a big fan of Thomas. He's so small.

I would consider that if you we leave Phoenix option to swap picks. Basically you get the better of the two picks mainly because I don't see us finishing 5th or lower when teams are lining up their tanks already.

I wouldn't remove it completely, maybe up to top 3 or at least #1 protection......stranger things have happened I.E the Baron Davis trade that netted Clev Irving. I like that idea Slava of pick swap this year with Pho but still want top 3 protection or just #1.

Understood.

I'd consider removing the protection close to the deadline if both teams were roughly in the same positions...but then you'd probably not be so inclined to do it with the PHX pick locked into "late lotto" at best.

Most Phoenix fans would hate this trade as I have it constructed right now. Most are thinking Thomas can fetch the Suns more and not seeing how the expiring Nash contract would be a great get for this summer.

The Suns have a horrible history with coin flips and lottery draws. Lowering the protection to just #1 is very tempting...but scary.

No thanks on Thomas. He thinks he's a starter, and he's not going to come off the bench for a rebuilding team like the Lakers.

So we're essentially swapping picks, and giving up Ed Davis for Isaiah Thomas? Nah, if we really want IT we could have signed him as a free agent.

The Suns should uphold their promise of making IT feel wanted instead of trying to dump that responsibility on the Lakers.

Raps fan here:

Is Jordan Hill any good defensively? How 'bout as a 4 compared to a 5?

Hill is a great post defender but not that good of a shot blocker. You can send him out there to nullify Al Jefferson and the Gasols, but you can't ask him to block every shot that comes his way. He's also got a patent mid-range jumper that he'll unleash on unsuspecting enemies, and he has a very underrated post game. He can definitely slide right in as your third big and will greatly increase your chances of a championship.

^Agreed. He's a great 3rd big.

Also, as for the IT trade, gotta absolutely agree with Karmaloop here....

To start off, I like Ed Davis...so we essentially demolish our shot at a top 5 pick, all for a sub 13 pick that's not in itself guaranteed next year because of the protection, merely to dump Nash (who at this point really cares if we keep his expiring? We're tanking....Nash should either be used as a means to receive a pick or a young prospect)...all to get IT and help them keep Dragic?

Opportunity cost is awful in this deal. I'd much rather go for the top 5 pick alone, then you bring in the Dragic factor, plus losing Davis......

I don't even know if I'd do it if Phoenix's pick wasn't protected beyond top 3 (since they are very unlikely to get anything between 4-12).

Yes! Snell is underrated in my opinion. He's buried behind Dunleavy, Butler, Hinrich, and even Mirotic. He's also a L.A. native too.

So lets look at this from a phoenix standpoint. Lose IT, and 2015 Suns pick to get Ed Davis, Nash, and 2015 Lakers Pick with no protection. Trade breaks down to IT for ED Davis and Nash with a swap of 2015 picks where LA gets PHO if outside 13 and Pho get the LA pick regardless of where it stands. They remove a player from their logjam of guards, opens the option for salary relief to sign Dragic when he hits the market, receive a big to help them where they desperately need a big man, and get a top 10 pick. Not a bad haul for a trade, but pretty lopsided if you ask me.

Lakers get a good scoring PG, remove a big man from their "Stacked" lineup, trade an large expiring contract that insurance will pay roughly 50% off, and swap to a lower end 2015 1st round pick. hmmm not sold at all.

Yeah, one has to be high on Isaiah Thomas to even consider this trade...and it doesn't like that's the case for any of you.

In your breakdown of the assets, you have the Lakers swapping first round picks with the Suns (likely 14th or 18th). Right now LA is dangerously close to giving that pick to the Suns for nothing.
