Hypothetical...Durant or Dwight?

Post#1 » by DubaLakers » Fri Apr 23, 2010 7:04 pm

On the Dan Patrick Show they asked this question would you take D12 or Durant right now on your team?

Cuban actually chimed in and hedged his answer a bit, said East Coast team I'd take Dwight and west coast team I'd take Durant.

I'd personally take D12 without hesitation. As much as I like Durant he's still a stringbean and sure doesn't appear fast or quick. He's got a great stoke for a big man and can make any outside shot with unlimited range that seems to be his MO for the nest 10-15 years. He sure commands the ball a ton, we've been there done that, lol.

Yea, not sure why I said not athletic, he def is, but he's not overpowering, or overly quick, or overly fast, or does he have amazing hops, he's just good at all those things, but he's great at shooting and has unlimited range.

Durant... It's not that close for me.

1. One of the hardest things to learn in the league is shooting touch and mechanics... If it can even be learned. Durant has it and Dwight needs it but can't seem to get it. Durant is one of the better pure shooters in the league. That'll take him far and as his body develops and his skillset improves. He's got plenty of size and strength now and if he gets a bit more he's going to be a handfull.

2. As Dwight gets older he's going to be fighting his skillset more and more. Right now he needs to develop his game and skillset but it's going to be more and more of an issue as time goes on. Durant's one of the most fundamentally sound young stars out there.

3. Dwights a tweener... He's not quite big enough to push around the biggest true centers of the league, and he's not quite nimble enough or a good enough shooter to take on the quicker PFs of the league. So far he's gotten by on pure athleticism. As time goes by, that's going to be less and less of a benefit for him. His fundamentals aren't as sound as a lot of the post players in the league. Every season, someone says Dwight needs to develop his game and every season, we see basically the same Dwight Howard.

Dwights one of the top 5 players in the league and will have a great career. But I think Durant could rival LeBron for the the best in the league over the next few years.

Order of young players I'd want on my team:

LeBron
Durant
Dwight
Mello
Roy
Rose

LeBron is the best player out of all those, but if I was looking to build a championship team around, I might pick Durant first. Durant likely won't ever get LeBron money so he might offer you a little more flexibility, while still being able to carry his team to the playoffs. Like Duncan. That and personally, it seems like LeBron's ego is inflating every season... I think it's bound to get him in trouble sooner or later. Durant's biggest flaw is that he doesn't seem to have an ego.

Yeah I've thought about that duo before. Its a tough one though. You can build good teams around the both of them.

i love durant but i am old school. it is easier to build around a big than it is a perimeter player. if howard could work wirk with kareem for a few months he would be unstoppable imo. durant id great and is only 21,and the league might belong to him in another 3-5 years, but for my money i take d12.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

I would take Dwight pretty easily. He is pretty much the only big man in the league that can anchor a top notch defense and is a very efficient post scorer (dunks tend to be high percentage).

A guy like Durant is replaceable, and quite frankly, there are more well-rounded perimeter players to choose from (LeBron, Kobe, Wade, and possibly Melo).

I'd take Durant without any hesitation. Lakers or otherwise. His pure talent is ridiculous.

Durant.

I can't stomach missed free throws all the time. Although you can't go wrong with Dwight either. And actually building around dwight is alot easier.

Dwight. With the injuries to Bynum and his history. I would take the rebounding and shot blocking center any day. Add him and I would trade AB to any team for a high draft pick and some good player.

I'd pick Durant. Quite frankly I can't buy the argument of choosing Dwight. There is such a huge drought at the 5 it would be underrating Durant's talent if I choose Dwight based on the fact that there aren't any other good young centers available. Even if that's the case, I would only pick Dwight if you couldn't replace Durant with Lebron or Wade. Durant seem to be a down to earth guy who is always hungry to prove himself, and I can't think of a personality that is more fitting for someone who is destined toward greatness.
