Phil Fires Back at Stern

Post#1 » by The Skyhook » Fri Apr 23, 2010 10:09 pm

"There's a certain gamesmanship that goes on that obviously he feels cheapens the game. It never was explained to us until suddenly it came down this last week that arbitrarily they were going to do this. I missed the coaches' meetings last September, so maybe they explained it in the coaches' meetings last year, because they said there were a couple incidences last year where I think it was [ Stan] Van Gundy and [Rick] Adelman were fined during the playoffs for statements that led to ‘manipulating' the press. I don't know how you guys could be so naive being members of … whatever estate you're members of."

"It's just a natural evolution of the game, and it's a natural evolution of who gets the ball the most and they're going to end up a lot of times at the foul line. Unfortunately it didn't work for Kobe [Bryant] that way [Thursday] night, but it did for Kevin [Durant]. But that's the way things go in this game. You have to accept it, swallow it and move on," Jackson said.

Phil is playing with fire. He just isn't afraid being fined. If Stern actually does have influence on refs I hope this doesn't back fire on the Lakers.

Wow Jax, just STFU. It's no one's fault that Durant was more aggressive than anyone short of Kobe. It's not Durant's fault that the Lakers haven't played like we've hoped for since last June. Mess with Stern and he'll crush you. Why bite the hands that feeds you?

I doubt it'll manner. He might as well taken the Radmanovic route and called Stern a p****,

Tim Hardaway spoke his mind once, and was never the same.

The difference is that when KD is aggressive and attacks the rim, he's rewarded by going to the line.
When KB is aggressive and attacks the rim, he's rewarded with picking up a charge or 4 hands on him and no call...

Don't get me wrong, Durant SHOULD have gotten the calls he got last night. I think they were LEGIT. I just wish there wasn't such a discrepency for the other star on the floor.

The subjectiveness of the officiating in the modern NBA is the one thing that drives me farther and farther away from the sport as a fan each year.

If the same calls were called the same way no matter who was playing or where, Officiating would be a non issue. People would still bitch but the arguments would be pretty weak. Now many of the complaints I hear from players, coaches, owners, and fans around the league seem pretty legit to me. It's a shame really.

D'you know that Stern is jewish ? I just find it interesting how difficult it was for a jewish guy to get to the top, handle the NBA for so long and do whatever he wants ?! Only because jewish are clever ? I doubt it.

He achieves his and not only plans( we might never know ) through NBA...

hey sashalex...look into what went down around the move of the sonics to oklahoma city...i think you'll really appreciate just how "clever" or "influential" stern can be.

im all for phil going head to head with dav-o, the ref issues , whether real or not, is percieved as real and growing all the time...in the court of public opinion, perception is reality...

the issue of favoritism is rampantly bad , the issue of potential game/score fixing is bad, and it is hardly a lakers issue only, though the most egregious examples of suspect referee'ing usually happens in the higher profile games ...and i suspect this is why stern jumped on this so hard and quick, when the premier coach of the premier team is talking ish, there is a problem .and this needs to be dealt with, and if it takes some financial fines on phils part to facilitate that, then ill support him in that...

Phil can fire back all he wants. Rack up fines, whatever. If it means winning, then so be it. Coaches are known to work referees before series, it's a fact. Many coaches called out Shaq on so many things before they played us, and somewhat rightfully so. The fact of the matter is, Refs have a subtle impact on the game, and sometimes, you have to take every edge you can get. That doesn't make it unfair because simply put, the Refs can ignore what Phil says, no harm done.

I could see Stearn suspending Phil for one game on this, this is the second time in a month, and he's calling Strearn out on this.

Stern is a dumbass is this the wwe or the nba if someone feels the game wasn't called fairly they should be able to voice their opinion, what he is doing is making it look like their is corruption in nba officiating and doesn't want any attention on that subject so he is handing out ridiculous punishments for someone to have an opinion lol this is pathetic
