Shannon Brown Will Most Likely Opt Out

Post#1 » by ALL HAIL » Sun Apr 25, 2010 5:22 pm

Cool.

I don't think he'll make more than 2 million per somewhere else though, and he'll have a hard time finding a role elsewhere.

I want Tony Allen. He can't shoot but he's a defensive bulldog. If we had him on this team right now, he'd sut down Westbrook.

Sign and trade Brown for Tony Allen (no more than 2.5 million per).

What a dumbass. This is great timing for him to make a statement like this one. It really shows who is loyal to the team. For all we know Shannon might not even be thinking about the series at hand but the type of money he thinks he could get next season. Shannon has been exposed and hes is definitely not going to get the money he thinks hes going to get.

Just look at all the rumors surrounding Amare. He didn't let that ish get to his head and he stepped up his game. Contract talks were brought up during the playoffs and Amare says lets wait until the playoffs are over. I think Shannon's true colors have been shown here.

It was fun to have Shannon around but when he opts out it will give the Lakers more to work around when it is time to rebuild the bench.

I appreciate Brown for what he is but he is clearly not as focused as he was last year in the playoffs when he was playing to stay in the league.

His role is supposed to be the defensive stopper at PG when Farmar and Fish are overwhelmed and a backup at SG. I guess he's done the latter but he either isn't playing bulldog defense anymore or he just isn't getting the same opportunity as last year's playoffs.

I wish I could be some of these guys' advisors. The sad truth is that he will opt out and then he will get a deal for less than the two mill he'd be guaranteed if he stayed. To make it worse, on another team he will probably struggle to find a role.

To each is own though. Like I said before, I want Tony Allen to play his role for us next year. I just hope he has some really bad games in the playoffs to drive his price down to about 2.5 million a year.

The three guards I want with Kobe next year are Tony Allen, Andre Iguodala, and Jerome Randle. Fisher is my fifth guard.

I can just see our payroll increase now....

I hope they revamp the roster this summer. I'd like us to keep Brown though.

Later homie. This will make the organization more willing to spend the MLE on something we actually need, or at least I hope so.

A point guard or perhaps a scorer to compliment Lamar off the bench preferably a back up 2 guard for Kobe so that he can rest.

All I know is that we don't need this attitude from Shannon Brown. Depending on what happens in these playoffs is going to determine the direction of this team. There will be changes made I have no doubt about it. I think this season has opened up the front offices eyes. I know a lot of you guys are going to bring up Bynum for Kirk and Noah as one of the changes and then to trade Sasha's expiring and to use the MLE. That is what I would call a major change. Another major change would be Bynum for Bosh. If we fail this year it will be unfortunate for Bynum. Bynum will be the center of all trade talks to getting this team back on the right track. The media will do it and half of the fan base will do it.

If the changes do have to be made it is pretty obvious that in order to get rid of our junk we will have to move a major piece like Lamar/Ron/Bynum. Kobe and Gasol are not going anywhere. Every move will be centered around them.

Iguodala is not a PG, and I don't think he is capable of being one in our offense. Furthermore, we don't have any pieces of get him outside our top 5.

To be honest this team is one point guard and two 3pt shooters away from being unstoppable. Pick up a Korver or Redick with a solid point and its pretty much good game.

Two things the lakers need:
A PURE shooter, preferably at Sf position
A defensive-minded PG that can handle fast guys

Does Brown fit into any of those two categories? NO
He can't lock down Aaron brooks. He hasn't shut down WestBrook. and i bet he wont shut down D. Will
He is all athleticism--> something lakers could do without.

So let him opt out.

PLEASE OPT OUT SHANNON. NOW YOU WITH THE OTHER 2 BUMS POINT GUARDS CAN LEAVE THIS TEAM AND WE CAN PURSUE ACTUAL POINT GUARDS LIKE TONY ALLEN, NATE ROBINSON, CJ WATSON AND JJ REDICK. THIS ALSO LETS US GET A REAL SHOOTER UNLIKE ARTEST. MAYBE KORVER?

I guess I'll be the first to say it:

I'd be more than willing to resign Shannon Brown for 2 mill per over two more years if we can't get someone else to cheaply fill his role as a backup SG and defensive specialist of PGs and SGs off the bench.

I know, I know, "he can't play defense, he sucks, he can't do this or that." My response is that based on what I saw in last years playoffs, he CAN play defense and shoot straight when focused. Based on what he's shown, I'd have no problem resigning dude (for 2 yrs, 4 mill) if we couldn't cheaply replace him with a guy who plays better, more intimidating, shut down defense on PGs and SGs (Tony Allen).

Lakers need a scoring point guard. Kobe is getting older and won't big able to score big like he use to.

Guys who can dunk and make one out of every three jumpers are dime a dozen. Probably the easiest "skill" set -- if you can call it that -- to find in basketball.

i wouldnt mind having shannon back, but i would use it as a last resort. i would much rather go with jj (if we can pry him away from orlando) or kirk. but if we cant manage any of these fellows, the 2yr/4mil contract All Hail talked of wouldnt hurt too too bad. we would still have the MLE to sign another player or two, so if it wouldnt be just a step sideways we could still make our bench better.
