Anyone else dislike Wesley Mathews?

Post#1 » by Patterns » Mon May 10, 2010 5:42 am

I think I do. He seems to be very cocky wanting to defend Kobe 1v1. He stated that he could guard Kobe 1v1 and doesn't need any help. I noticed that he's a flopper too when Kobe got called for a push foul but barely touched him.

Nope. He's guarding one of the best perimeter players in the game, he's going to do whatever he can to try and stop him.
Thank you, Phil.

I think as far as the douche bags who have tried to guard Kobe in the past he rates pretty low on my list.

Nope. I love this kid. I'm irritated Wes Sr. didn't give his old team a call and get him drafted with that late late 2nd wasted on Elonu. I'd love to have had him in P&G taking those Vujacic minutes.

He's FA but Jazzfan already told me they are willing to go full MLE on him, so he's not going anywhere.

Interesting. Isn't it strange how the Jazz/Spurs/etc seem to find diamonds in the rough with those second round picks? Whereas whenever we have one it rarely seems to turn into a guy that even makes the roster.

Who was the last great 2nd round LAL pick. Or even draft pick that stuck around who wasn't a headcase/constantly injured?

We need better scouts...

Agree.......plus if I wasn't such a hoop historian and knew of his dad ballin with us in he 80's, dude wouldn't even be on the radar. Him compared to Raja, Ruben, Bruce and other scum Wes is just a pup.

No. I like his attitude given his age more than anything.

I like him, works hard, plays hard, has a good on court demeanor.

I seriously doubt this. Considering they are trying to resign Boozer, have a lottery pick, and are losing Korver and Matthews... He'll get a Brown type deal 1-2mil for a few years. Honestly I think we should throw a couple mil at both him and Korver and force the Jazz to choose. I'd love either one of those guys on our bench next year.

lol...dislike him cause he wanted to guard kobe? what kind of **** is that? lmao....if anything, he should be getting props for wanting to step up to the plate and guard him...and hes right for saying not to help, that would leave shooters open all day..especailly on a day where all of our players were cashing 3's...btw, everyone on our team flops, or screams when they drive to the basket anyways.

seems like you're disliking him for the wrong reasons.

Matthews never said he could shut him down. He has said only great things of Kobe, and only said he enjoys the challenge of guarding him. Thats not being cocky, thats confidence and ambition.

What kinda douche bag rags on an undrafted rookie, who only has worked hard all year to earn a starting spot? Yea, I'm sure his ego has really blown up since not being drafted. He must think he's better than Kobe! Luckily most Lakers fans don't seem to share your perspective, because its pretty embarrassing and pretentious.

Look, even Kobe agrees.

"He plays hard, he competes," Bryant said. "For a player that comes seemingly out of nowhere and has to fight for everything, that's what you like to see."

And in his own words....

"He's going out for the kill every night, and you've got to respect that." "You know what's coming," Matthews said.

We might not go full MLE, but we will spend to keep matthews. We will clearly sign him before Kyle, everyone in the organization recognizes him as one of our best defenders, he's younger, and shoots the three. Kyle Korver would be really good for you guys though, so you could get him unless the knicks offer him something stupid.

He is a good looking young player that will be in the NBA for a long time. He is one that slipped thru and the Jazz got lucky to find him. With players like Adam Morrision playing like crap and getting paid for it. I love to see players like Wes get a chance and take the spot of a player who was drafted for what he did in college and not what he can do at the NBA level.

Who does he play for? Oh, right, the Jazz... Of course I hate him... For one more game.

I don't even want to talk about him until sometime next season.

There are no feel-good stories on any team playing against us... I don't want anything good to happen to any of them.

That said, no one on the Jazz will ever reach the level of hate of say the Nuggets, until they push us in a tight series.

Marc Gasol says hi.

Wow I forgot when Marc Gasol made the roster. When was that? Was that the year he played in Europe and then was traded?

As for Ronny, great, we drafted him....we didn't give him enough PT because of a logjam at the 4, and then let him go. I'm talking about developing young talent, not selling them.

Instead of finding future starters, we're stuck with mediocre role players like Walton and Vujacic at 5M a year, when we could be grabbing them in the 2nd round for the minimum.

Maybe we should draft a player at a position where they'd have a chance to be effective. Like PG.

But hey, if you're happy with our draft selections in the past decade, then by all means....

NO I dont and he's exactly the kind of player we could use, a guy who works his butt off cause he has a chip on his shoulder and has something to prove unlike our 2 dead weights who just shows up every year eating up valuable cap space in Walton/Vujabrick.

I like Mathews and would take him on the Lakers. He plays hard and gives a lot of effort on D. More than yhoju can say aboutg any other guard on the Lakers outside of Kobe.
