Is Kobe our greatest ever?

Post#1 » by kobethegoat » Mon May 17, 2010 7:51 am

First off I gotta say I have so much respect for Magic, Kareem, the logo and all the rest that have worn the purple and gold and made this franchise what it is.

But theres one man, Kobe Bryant who been the constant in our last decade of domination.

True, we have dominated previous decades too, but in this era IMO its a lot harder to hold onto your dominance year after year. In our 80s teams, we had FOUR #1 overall draft picks on the same team(Magic, Kareem, Thompson, Worthy), plus a #4 pick(Scott), simply we were just on another level compared to the other teams.

Thats not the case in todays league, nobody has done more with less than our 24 has.

If we win the ring this year, could we say Kobe, with 5 rings will become the greatest Laker ever?

I think I will wait for his career to end in several years to actually make a decide, but just to think Kobe STILL has several years left is scarey to realize what his career will be like when it is all said and done. Maybe then I will change my avatar from Magic to Kobe.

He'd have to get at least get 5 rings to pass Magic. Even with that it might not be enough, because of how Magic embodied the entire "Showtime" Era.

But no doubt there will be a Kobe statue outside Staples one day.

(Magic, Kobe, Chick Hearn, Gretzky, and OSCAR DE LA HOYA?!...)
Thank you, Phil.

If he takes us to the finals 3 or 4 times and win atleast 2,than he'll have the #1 spot. But i think for many people Magic will always be #1,because of his personality and his impact on the franchise and the league.

We win this year, and he's the 2nd greatest Laker behind Magic IMO passing Kareem.

Magic would still be nr 1 though, and it will be tough to Kobe to pass him unless he wins a couple more Finals MVPs.

2nd most popular.
3rd greatest possibly/most likely ending up 2nd greatest when it is all said and done.

Magic is still #1.

defeat the celtics, not the magic . . . but defeat the celtics in the finals.

do that, and i'll give him the crown.

otherwise, 4rings puts him up there close, but not at the top.

Yeah because Kobe is still a Laker, was drafted by the Lakers, won another title with the Lakers, amd got every career accomplishment with this team. Not to mention Shaq burning bridges everywhere he goes.

as great as kobe is the greatest laker imo is and will always be earvin magic johnson. to me magic is the best to ever lace them up.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

The answer to this question solely relies on whether or not kobe could get it done this year. granted he can get it done and get revenge over the celtics,,,This will let the laker TEAM know how hard it was to defend a title and be more ALERT next time around thus putting kobe in a position to get number six and surpass magic of being the greatest LAKER EVER -fact-

Kobe will be number one to everybody who DID NOT see Magic play...

Magic was in the Finals in 9 of his first 11 years....

Having followed the Lakers as an avid fan for more than 30 years, I have watched these two incredible atheletes give Laker fans thrill after thrill.
Magic was special in so many ways as is Kobe.
The thing I love the most about both of them is how much they loved being a Laker and how badly they want to win.
We are incredibly lucky as LA Laker fans to have seen these two atheletes in our lifetime. I never saw Jerry West play but I am sure those who did would say that he was just as good as Magic and Kobe.
At this point, I think Magic and Kobe are the top 2 in terms of all-time best but will give a slight edge to Magic.

these are two different players. Kobe started his career as an individual player that had to learn team ball. Magic started and end his career playing team ball. Go figure who is the greatest.

Magic is team player.
Kobe is a individual player who has learned team ball but still is a Shoot first pass second guy.

If I were starting a franchise it would be No question Magic.

If I need a shot at the end of the game I would have Magic pass it to Kobe.

Kobe would need 7 rings to me to surpass Magic
