Has Any Mediocre PG Ever Had to Face As Many Great PGs as

Fisher.

The guy has had to play and win against:

1) Westbrook - the young most athletic stud of all PGs
2) D-Wil - the best prime PG in the league
3) Nash - 2 time MVP and most skilled PG ever not named Magic
4) Rondo/Nelson - both tough quick all-stars

D-Fish is a BAD ASS. He doesnt fear these guys. He has stepped up his game. Can you think of anyone else who has ever done faced this kind of competition before. How about for a guy that is undersized, slow and old. I can't. Not even close.

Fish (aka Robin) is a complete bad ass. 7 more. Go Lakers!

For Fish, never underestimate the heart of a champion is all I'll say.

Write him off at your own peril, is there still anybody who dont want him back for next year?

I want him back, but I want to curb his minutes and keep him fresh for the playoffs. Would love if he either came off the bench or mostly started/finished games.

Over an 82 game schedule, Fisher is less effective.

You gotta give him some props, he has played as good of D as he possibly can the last few games. He gives 100% the whole time he's out there and maximizes what little he has. He played pretty dam n well vs DWill, kept his body on him as much as poss bile and hit big shots too. Last night he was even better, no random Fisher chucks and he bodied Steve and fought through screens all night.

He's still got to put up at least 7 more respectable games against some tough PGs but it is nice sometimes to have such a savvy old vet around. He's really stepped it up this year.

Many, if not most, of the posters here are eating crow right about now.

And to the OP, calling Fish "mediocre' and then going on to compliment him (deservedly so), seems a contradiction. Fish is by no means a "mediocre" PG.

Love Fish but he can't start for us next year we need to seriously upgrade our pg position

Oscar Robertson laughs at any assertion that Nash, or Stockton, is the 2nd best PG of all time.

Yeah fish has stepped up his defense BIGTIME in the playoffs. It might just be the matchups he's getting at PG though. Wasn't Kobe guarding nash a good deal in Game 1? Fisher has improved his play though so props.

"In Fisher I Trust"

As far as I'm concerned, everyone that was calling for Fisher to be benched in favor of Farmar or Brown was out of their mind.

I don't care how bad Fisher was playing, Farmar and/or Brown have never earned the starting spot.

I don't know how many people were calling for Farmar or Brown to start as much as saying we need a new PG completely.

Farmar gets outworked most of the time by bench players. He has no business asking to run a team. Brown isn't a PG. He's a horrible decision-maker.

Posters, like me, who were pissed at Fisher were upset with his decision-making (such as any time he ever drove to the basket), his shooting (in another thread I listed all of his games he shot under 40%...there were 48), and his defense against quicker guards. We've been lucky to be matched up with Deron and now an old Nash.

Look, for a decade now we've been making careers for opposing PGs (Troy Hudson), let's not kid ourselves here. But Phil's right. Fish is a gamer. And you have to respect that.

I just hope Fish comes to the realization that we could use a little help over the long haul of next season.

Trust me eights, at his lowest points this year, there were many that called for the benching of Fisher in favor of Brown or Farmar ... many, many, many.

They won't admit it, but there were many posters who at there emotional peaks were quick to say that Fisher is utter garbage and Brown or Farmar should replace him in the starting lineup.

It is what it is.

This.

I don't think Fish isn't going anywhere next season, if anything he moves to a reserve role if we can land a solid PG. If we end up slightly upgrading from Jordan, Fish will still be starting cause he knows the system so well but I expect his minutes to be managed more.

Who did Stockton have to face in 97/98

STOCKTON FISHER
A .500 sophomore Matt Maloney 1st round -> Westbrook is way better
Elliot 2nd round -> D Wil is way better
Van Excel WCF -> Loved Nick the Quick but Nash is better
Harper Finals - > Loved Harper also, but Rondo or Nelson are better

Fish finished stronger competition hands down
And how is Stockton the former MVP mediocre
