LAL Draftniks: Who do you take at #43?

Post#1 » by Casperkid23 » Fri Jun 4, 2010 5:29 pm

We have a T&T mock going, and it's the Lakers pick.

Current draft can be seen here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1012391&start=0 on the first post.

BPA's according to DX are:
Jerome Randle (PG), Brian Zoubek (C), Pablo Aguilar (PF), Alexey Shved (PG/SG), Paulao Prestes (C), Sherron Collins (PG), Charles Garcia (PF), Darington Hobson (SG/SF), Sylven Landesberg (SG), Dexter Pittman (C), Robin Benzig (SF/PF), Aubrey Coleman (SG), and Latavious Williams (SF/PF).

Help would be appreciated.

I feel like the Lakers could take Jerome Randle if he is available. Some posters have mentioned him on this board. The Lakers are in need of a PG and if they can't get a PG this offseason from FA or via trade then Jerome Randle makes sense.

Jon Schreyer. Tough, smart, leader, best pg asst/t.o. ratio in the entire NCAA, expert shooter. Nice size 6'5" can play PG or SG, ice water in his veins, great shooter off screens or spot up. Can also drive to the basket and has good instincts around the paint.

Negative not blazingly fast.

Im personally hoping the the Hawks still have their pick available for trade so the Lakers can give them some cash and the 43rd so the Lakers can draft Bledsoe. But if that doesn't happen the Lakers should draft a PG or a shooter the shooter should play anyone of the 3 perimeter positons.

I agree with Duba that Jon Schemeyer is the best option for us. However, I think there is no way he drops all the way to #43 IMO. In my mind, we either trade up for him or we take Jerome Randle. Those 2 are the only viable options for us

So you would be willing to trade Vujacic, Farmar, and Walton for the number one overall pick? Who wouldn't?

Nobody who can help us will be there at 43

might as well package this pick and next years 2nd rounder to some team looking for cap space for their 1st rounder.

Still pissed about selling the Toney Douglas pick, he could have helped us,

Darrington Hobson - hell ya. Wing depth was a weakness and Hobson is a mini Odom, solid on both ends with Handle. Thought for sure he'd be gone by 43.

Scheyer has alligator arms, shortest arms of anyone over 6' at the combine, bad for perimeter D.

Use MLE on PG, 58 on a 3rd string C or 3rd PG.

Reasonable chance Randle will still be there at 58.

obviously a PG would probably be our biggest need or a guard shooter. Randall, Sheyer, Fredette... whoever is available.

But it depends on who we can sign as well and who is there. Dunno if it would be worth it to take a flier on a low tier PG when there are guys like Zubek or Pittman sitting there. Those guys could be useful cheap backup bigs with some potential if we let DJ and Josh go.

This is to the people who think the Lakers would have picked Toney Douglas if they had kept that pick. The Lakers and Knicks agreed to a trade the Knicks then told the Lakers to pick Douglas there no guarantee the Lakers would have taken Douglas if they had decided to keep that pick. You guys really need to drop this.

^ true. Plus with Fish, JFar, Shann, they weren't really in the PG market last yr - they probably wouldve taken a DJ or Ammo replacement.

And supa, Fredette pulled out of the draft.

edit- and Yes to Pittman (didn't see him the first time)... dude is the Anti-Scheyer, super long wingspan ala this yrs Dejaun Blair.

Pittman, while scary fat at times, is capable of being a beast if LA's staff can keep him in shape, he would be a huge pickup if we actually did the Bosh deal. And even not, can you imagine poor center trying to guard Bynum for most of the game and then have Pittman come in for spot minutes and bang on him? haha

I say we should just pick the best player available regardless of positions. Given Phil's history, no rookie outside of the top 5 in this draft will be able to come in and get minutes right away. We should just pick the guy with the best talent and develop him for a year or two before playing him regularly. Our problems will have to be resolved through FA and trades (fingers crossed for Randy Foye).

Pittman would be a great guy. He has good height/size and has more potential than any of the other guys.

just take the best shooter... Shooter is more important than PG as far as draft goes. There's no PG in the draft that is going to come in and do the things you have in mind (what is it... 43rd pick??). But a shooter at 40+ pick can come in and shoot lights out. Just take the best shooter, period. Figure out your project PG later. This team is in desperate need of someone other than Fish & Kobe that could bury the 3 as consistent as consistency gets every single effin game!!!
