Yahoo Report- Witnesses Hear Kobe Screaming In Locker Room "Who Will Take a Stand With Me?"

Quote:
BOSTON – On his way into the losing locker room, the most angry man in the Garden was heard to bellow a spontaneous stream of curses into the ears of his Los Angeles Lakers. As the door slammed behind them, a witness heard Kobe Bryant(notes) screaming that he needed some-bleeping-one to make a stand with him.

The Lakers have been pushed to the edge and Bryant to the brink. Here it was, the most important night of these NBA Finals, a Game 5 with everything even, and it felt like the post-Shaq Lakers with Bryant left to fend for himself. Bryant had gone for 38 points at the Garden, one tough shot after another, a great Celtics defense daring him to make baskets from one more odd angle, one more contested circumstance.

The loneliest Laker had to be Bryant, watching one breakdown after another, a procession of Celtics getting baskets and rebounds and loose balls when they most needed them. He needed someone to grab a defensive rebound, stop Paul Pierce(notes) and get between Rajon Rondo(notes) and the rim.

"Which one of you motherf***rs is gonna make a stand with me!?" I would have chosen the same words verbatim if I were in his shoes.
We're in a hole right now, no doubt.

Kobe needed to do this. The players around him needed to get chewed out. Hopefully this will finally get the team fired up

Not a smart move by Kobe. His team mates have personal pride too. They don't need to be lectured by Kobe to know that they are being pwned by the Celtics ..I would not be shock if his team mates intentionally play their sub par level so the Lakers can lose and deprive Kobe of his 5th ring.

It's a real damn shame that that question even needs to be asked.

It says a whole lot about the character of the team when its leader has to beg for help at the most important time of the season. Outside of Kobe and Fisher, this team is filled with mental midgets that fold under pressure.

Prove me wrong. Pussies.

I honestly think Kobe's attitude is part of the reason why his teammates often under perform. When Kobe was sitting out with his injuries late in the season the rest of the Lakers played loose, unafraid to take risks, and they played a lot better that way. When Kobe's around they know he's raging on the inside and scrutinizing their every move, and they play scared, second guessing themselves, always looking to Kobe first, not wanting to set him off. If you've ever played with a super-competitive, angry douchebag who criticizes like crazy you'd know that it makes you play worse, not better. Nobody plays well when they're second guessing themselves. People play aggressive when they're confident.

I hope the rest of the team don't have the same attitude towards the game as you. What kind of a loser sabotages another teammate on the court?

ponder276: Jordan's teammates say hello.

This isn't about what Kobe is doing, it's about what the rest of the Lakers aren't doing. Stop making excuses for them. If they're truly that soft and can't take the criticism that Kobe dishes out, get the fsck off the team.

Kobe haters, Kobe can never win, it's either he scored too many points, or he didn't have a super star Jordan type game.

Im a fan of the Lakers all in all, but I gotta say, I really dislike this particular Lakers team. IT just seems like they always have to be pushed to give their best efforts. Sure, it is difficult to go 100% in such a long NBA season, but to take a game off in a crucial championship game is absolutely (Please Use More Appropriate Word). And yet, there they went. Nobody even felt the need to step their game up to get that championship. Everyone just wanted to lay back and have the championship fell into their laps. Truth be told, this team really doesn't deserve that championship.

You just hit the nail on the head.

Throughout the regular season Gasol, Odom (especially), and Bynum had to call themselves out on several occasions for a lack of effort and focus. I mean really, what kind of crap is that? They need to remind themselves to play harder, tougher, and with more focus.

This has got to be the most frustrating Lakers team I've ever watched from start to finish and it's exactly why I still want to make changes win or lose.

Yeah, some guys respond well to berating criticism, but the Lakers *are* a somewhat mentally soft team, so I see this as a bad move. I'm sure Kobe is hoping it will make them play more aggressively, but IMO it will likely just make them more unsure of themselves.

More unsure than they already are?

We're supposed to be defending our championship here and playing like we have a pair...

I have seen Pau and Odom play fantastic basketball against the Celtics since the 2008 Finals, primarily in the last four regular season meetings since that debacle. I have yet to see them play with the same energy and passion. I was positive that Odom was going to play with a chip on his shoulder, but instead he's looking like he wants to get it over with so he can stroll around Willy Wonka's Factory and stick his dick in some warm chocolate. Gasol on the other hand has regressed in recent games to his 2008 version, something we didn't see at all in 2009.

These guys are just being pussies right now and they need to be called out, not coddled. Every single player on the team better be at least as angry as I am for these losses. They need to hold themselves accountable and rise to the occasion like the Celtics have.
