Shaquille O'Neal praised Bryant's growth on FOX Sports Radio's "Into the Night with Tony Bruno," defending his former Lakers teammate's reputation and saying he "has evolved as the greatest player in Lakers history."

He moves up to 2nd greatest Lakers of all time trailing only Magic with this title IMO.

He also moves up to 7th on the all time list. I have Magic 4th all time, and I don't think Kobe can pass that without a few great seasons more (considering Magic also was a Laker for life).

him and Magic are tied imo. Kobe will eventually surpass Magic. But I'm i big Kareem homer, but he didn't play his whole career with the Lakers. Kareem is one of the greatest ever

We have to keep in mind that Kobe may play as long as Kareem and longer than Magic also. Hmm I wonder.

6 for 24 in a game seven?

Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabar all better, much better.

Not that tough when you are shooting 23%.

How long does one have to play for a team to qualify as one of their greatest. If five seasons is enough the award goes to Wilt the second best player of all time. But Jerry West was a live time laker, 29 pts, 6 rbs, 5 assists per game life time average in the playoffs.

it also shows he wanted the ball more than 9 other players 15 times.

Wilt was with the Lakers at the end though, not the prime. He didn't score 100 here.

That is overshadowed by the fact that he worked his ass off out there and all series for that matter. They won. He contributed. 15 rebounds is crazy. No one shot well at all. They won, he led them there.

Not quite, right there with Magic, but needs to be 6-8 to pass magic man imo. Magic said it right though, earned a statue tonight :)

nope and imo not ever...to me magic is the best to ever play the game and so heis also the best laker...i will give kobe the fourth spot right now after magic, logo, and capt...win another ring or two and we can talk about passing capt and west...
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

Shut your pie hole. Kobe had 15 freaking boards. 5 x more than your HOF KG. Shat up already and go back to your forum.

I'm a Bulls fan, but I'd rank Kobe right behind Magic and Kareem for the third best Laker of all time. He passed Jerry West with this victory, but his actual performance tonight and really this entire series (only one great game in a loss) does hurt him a little bit.

Kobe is obviously a very talented and great all time player, so he has a very real chance to become the greatest Laker of all time. Which is a crazy accomplishment if you think about all the all time greats who are a part of he Lakers rich history. So he has the potential and time and I'd say one more championship and he surpasses Kareem for that number 2 spot.

With this 5th championship, I think I have to put Kobe in my top 10 list or he's at least seriously flirting with it.

Great, great player. You fans are truly lucky to have him.

Kobe owns pratically every record the Lakers have. He will be the greatest Laker (and probably player ever) once his career is over. Kobe can easily play another 5-6 years.
