NBA Free Agnecy: Chris Paul Possibility?

Post#1 » by H00PDREAMS » Tue Jun 22, 2010 4:38 pm

I have been saying this over and over again since last summer. Again and again people have laughed at my suggestions about the Lakers constructing a plan to acquire CP3. I think the Lakers should have a plan I think he truly could be the heir apparent in Los Angeles. After Kobe, Paul would be coming into his prime certainly with Pau still around and some other all star players in the line up the Lakers would perennial king makers in the WCF. I don't think I am so looney anymore it seems everyone in the NBA is jumping the gun on Paul and wants to help him get out New Orleans but at what cost? :-?

The Internets are a set a blaze with Chris Paul Rumors. Where there is smoke...

"Hornets’ Paul draws interest as draft nears."
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=App4m_TX1ydfhX9emgmCC8W8vLYF?slug=aw-paulhornets062110

There is a chance that the Hornets could trade Paul... (George)Shinn wants to cut costs and is reportedly willing to part with Paul if the price is right.New Orleans would likely need a major haul in return -- probably an All-Star, another starter and a high draft pick -- and not many teams even have that kind of ammunition to make such a deal. Although a trade isn't impossible..."
http://www.rotowire.com/Chris-Paul-googid129308-spnba.htm

"The Nets are one of several teams that have called the New Orleans Hornets about trading for Chris Paul"
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/2010/06/21/2010-06-21_new_jersey_nets_making_push_to_trade_for_new_orleans_hornets_guard_chris_paul.html#ixzz0rbHgbnxO

" ...theOrlando Magic were one of the teams going hard for Chris Paul, who is a favorite of Magic GM Otis Smith. As we covered on June 9th in the HOOPSWORLD Fast Break Podcast, there have been some rumbling from Chris Paul himself that he's not sure what his future looks like in New Orleans...

Paul is one of those special players that will take a team far into the playoffs. There is a ownership change with there team. Once the new owner takes charge, Paul is off the table. So any deal would have to be out of site. Lakers have not draft picks worth anything. Older players that other teams do not want and Bynum would be the only option to start with. So we are not in the mix.

I agree it would be difficult. But I think the Lakers should have some contingency plan in the works should the Bynum experiment is truly labeled a failure.

when Paul went down, Collison did a really good job leading that team. I can see ownership trading Paul to get pieces to build the team. Trading Paul will give the Hornets 2-3 pieces that Collison won't

That said, I don't think the Lakers have those 2-3 pieces to trade for Paul.

yeah yeah all around the world its the same song.

I think Mitch should pull a Steve Jobs and think different. Even if he is moved I couldn't see him going to a win now contender. So maybe we are talking in the next 1-2(2011-12) years worst case scenario.

My original question has always been what better player than Paul accept the helm from Kobe. Dude is a born leader, truly wants to be a winner, he is straight fierce and he wants to be the best there is.

Whos to say Phil is coming back? I hope he does... I think in time CP3 can deal with the Deron Williams of the world. People said stuff like that about other undersized players.

ESPN reporting he could be available if the other team takes Emeka Okafor.

no way this just happened...someone has a complaint about if the lakers got CHRIS PAUL? Yeah, lakers better take bosh, james, wade, lee, amare, etc off their radar and focus on luke ridnour and anthony pig miller

there's always a chance when the lakers, cowboys, yankees are involved, but i dont see the paul thing happening, but i sure hope it does

Every rumor mill post I have read since early this morning have all been quick to end their piece with the fact that no one would be surprised if CP3 changed teams this summer.
I think it is possible that he could move soon. My concern is that its amazing no one here has even considered the possibility but they go on and on all day about LeBron and or Bosh coming to Los Angeles...

If you have watched any Laker games since we installed the triangle offense, we wouldn't be having this conversation...

Good point, except CP3 is good enough to dump the triangle. Doesn't matter, never going to get him anyways...

Dude REALLY? Anyway... I think Paul could survive the triangle he isn't some lunk head. Besides who says we are running the triangle if Phil leaves? That may be a good discussion thread though, if we throw out the triangle how do load up the team player wise.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
