Jordan Farmar

Post#1 » by Dalakerbox » Tue Jun 22, 2010 7:50 pm

Although I know many of you would love to see him gone, and actually didn't want him here most of the season, I honestly believe us not giving him a chance to run our O will come back to bite us in the A$$. There is a possibility Phil won't return although I hope he does, so the need for true point guard that does not have to build chemistry with our team will be needed. I'm not saying he's the greatest option, but had he had more minutes he could have provided more points assists and steals as he was always in the passing lanes and pestering whoever he guards. It will suck to see him grow to be the point guard we wanted, and can see him on another team averaging decent numbers. All I'm saying is this...careful what we ask for. Thoughts?

Jordan has had moments where he's played very well for us so yes it would be tough to see him go. On the other hand if we can pick a player that has been a more consistent contributor through out their careers we should not hesitate to pick them up.

Its catch 22 Jordan definitely does have potential to lead a team, but Phil likes veteran PGs....so i can understand Jordie's frustrations. If he does end up leaving I do wish him well but i do agree with an above posters sentiments about having to watch him flourish on another team. That will suck :(

We still have Brown (for now) and I know the triangle doesnt require a true PG.

It just sucks seeing ours get burned time after time lol

his D is worse then Fish if that was possible cause he gets beat by the opposing team backup Guard too....so he wont be missed, if Critt can do anything in summer leagues and make the team he'll be able to replicate farmar production.

Farmer has been a dissapointment, however you shouldn't assume that he is gone. He isn't a unrestricted FA, he is restricted so the market will decide if he returns to the Lakers. If somebody is willing to pony up the money, he will be gone; however I say keep him at the right price.

Yes he did not have the best D in the world, but he got to Loose balls a lot, deflected passes and was always the first Laker to hit the ground to get to those loose balls. When we played teams that kept us out on the perimeter shooting he was the smallest guy on the court at least willing to drive it into the paint (and made a lot of those too). Also the open shots Kobe creates for him, he hits those. All things Critt is unable to do for us mainly hit the three. I don’t know, I’m just not ready to give up on him, but agreed if we can find someone with more experience grab him, just don’t be surprised if our guy Farmar steps his game up next season

2010 Exit Interviews: Jordan Farmar

Farmar’s exit interview, however, dealt mostly with the fact that he’s a restricted free agent and will have the opportunity to sign a contract with any NBA team on July 1. Since he is restricted, the Lakers could match any offer he receives if they so choose.

The summary of Farmar’s statements:

- Farmar stated that while he’s extremely proud of playing a role in two championship teams - particularly in his native Los Angeles - he’s hoping to move forward to the next stage of his personal career. Farmar would like the opportunity to lead a team as he did the scout teams while preparing L.A.’s starters to go against their respective playoff opponents, and is confident that he could do so.

- (Describing what he wants): “I want to see what kind of player I can be in this league. I know I can do a lot, I know I can lead a team. I definitely want to win and that’s important to me, but I don’t know if I could look back at my career if I didn’t get a chance to see what kind of player I can be. I want to see what I can do on the floor every night in this league.”

- Farmar said that he, Phil Jackson and Mitch Kupchak were all “at peace” with his situation moving forward, though he couldn’t comment specifically on their conversation.

- Farmar mentioned how well Derek Fisher played and how important his leadership is and thought that Fisher (also a free agent) may have the edge in terms of L.A.’s point guard position. Farmar again implied that if he were to be in a different situation, he’s certainly want the opportunity to start and show what he can do. “I feel like I can do so, so, so much more.”

- Farmar’s expecting a child shortly with his fiance, and detailed: “I have a family of my own starting, and we’re going to be together no matter where we’re at. I have a little one on the way and a lot of things are going the right way.” The implication is that he has to do what’s best for him from a basketball standpoint because his family will be there no matter what.

He's gone. I rather improve our PG spot then stay with Farmar.

well yeah I guess he's gone then, but I loved this interview. Not willing to just ride the wagon onto numerous championships, but would rather see what he can accomplish on his own. Well I hope his satisfied with the two he'll ever get, but I wish the man luck. so......what were you guys saying about Blake and Critt :D

I have NO doubt he'll put up #'s on a different team but I can live without his atrocious defense and shoot 1st mentality....for all his ability to drive the ball, he shoots from the outside more often then he does attacking the paint.

I think we can all agree that New York with D'antoni is the best fit for him.

If New York ends up only acquiring a guy like Stoudamire and having to wait one more year to nab Carmelo Anthony, I can see the Lakers sign and trading Farmar (for one year, 2 million) with Vujacic's expiring and maybe a first rounder to New York for a second round pick ... for obvious cap relief (getting rid of Vujacic saves the team ten million dollars).

I think we match as long as it is not over 4 million a year. He wants money to provide himself a life and we need a player who will be worth the kind of money he wants.

this is from someone who played ball.....i'm glad he's gone.i think he would make a great back up somewhere else....good luck Farmar...and reading that interview,i got the vibe he was pissed that management went with fisher again for next year.
How's this for an almost unbelievable Laker trivia: The Lakers will miss the playoffs this year for the 3rd time since 1976.

Farmar is DONE... He was a good change of tempo guard but he wants a shot at being the leader of a young team... I wish him the best...

I think Farmar is in for a bit of a wakeup call and reality check on July 1.

I'm not sure what he thinks he's worth $ wise, but I highly doubt a team out there gives him a BIG payday, and if they do, it will surely be a scrub team, and there's no guarantee that he'd be starting even then!!

I understand him wanting to play more, especially in more of an uptempo system, but I have a feeling his selfishness will come back and bite him because I can't picture a team out there being cool with Jordan Farmar as their STARTING PG.

If I were the Lakers, I'd probably match a $3M offer sheet, so I'm not sure why he'd burn the LAL bridge at this point. I think it speaks more to his ego.

But if he'd rather play on some crappy Eastern Conference team in a crappy city and lose just to have the ball in his hands more, then I'm not sure we want a player with that mindset on our squad anyway.

i dont think hes looking for a big payday.

and if its a reasonable contract offer from another team, mitch kupchak is going to respect jordan's wishes and let him go. 3 or so mil per would be better spent on a starting PG

imo, if i was jordan farmar, id hitch the first plane to NY and play under d'antoni. we all knew he'd do well in the SSOL

Ship his ass out

He wants to start and he probably could have but he wants a PG first system and you dont get that w/ the triangle.

He commented last summer about wanting to be the man

His comments are as tactless as Kobes when he loses hope but hes not Kobe and that ish shouldnt be tolerated period on a championship team

Hes trying to boohoo his way to a starting role. Mr. Sam Cassell jr.
