Was the floor painted a darker purple or is it because of the lighting in the Arena?

Starting to think you like the Lakers more than the Bulls.

On topic, I think its just the reflection of the lights that make it the purple look lighter in the early 2000s, before the "Lights Out" promo.

The camera/video quality also plays a factor imo. Colors were more drowned out early in the century and games are broadcasted in HD in the present.

Yup. In fact, newer HDTVs tend to saturate colors, making them bolder and more vibrant (helps sell tvs plus looks awesome), so likely there has been no change, or very minimal change.

ok thanks!! I thought maybe the floor was painted a darker color. I remember the UC looked lighter when it first opened in 1995, and then in 1996 it was a darker red, and then a little lighter in 1997 and in between in 1998 and now it is a darker clearer red.

Same paint, different lighting system in arena.....plus TV effects.

what happened? got kicked out of the GB for openning to many Lakers threads?

I like the new lighting system and all, but damn... with the old lighting, the crowd energy seems way more crazy, since you can see everyone in the crowd. That video is a perfect example.

Game 7 vs. the Celtics with the lights on must've looked just as insane, if not more.

I bet you they touched up the paint at some point

They had pieces of the floor on basketball cards and at souvenir shops. A new floor every year is probably a $ maker.

The "Lights Out" effect probably enhances it, as well as HD and newer qualities technology wise.

They did retouch it. I have a lot of old games. At one point, they added grey-black shading effects to the center court logo in addition repainting the purple. Then they did away with it. In 2000, the purple color was clearly very light compared to 2004-05 (the year they changed it). And the color was darkened BEFORE Lights Out took effect and before I got HD.

They did the same thing in the final years at the Forum w/ the purple color. Went from dark to light to dark.

Probably something Jeannie looks at when she watches the games... Who knows.

Lakers logo was updated in 2001-02, they darkened the letters hence the court was also darkened.
