Ryan Gomes

Ryan Gomes is apparently going to be waived by the blazers as his contract is not guaranteed for 10-11. he is a huge body and can play both forward positions well while being a very effective outside shooter. now the lakers appear well equipped at forward, however, he'd be a huuuuuuge upgrade over walton and should be a no brainer in case management was really thinking about saving money by getting rid of odom. he basically is a very poor man's lamar odom in that he rebounds well and covers two forward positions. his scoring ability seems to even be better than odom's.

I always like him. Go get him.
He playes hard, solid D and some O moves. Not a great starter but a great Bench player for a good team.

Agreed, and he's already getting $1 mil from buyout so he should be cool accepting the vet min (1.3 for him I think?) - particularly if LA plans on letting Powell walk and keeping both rookies Ebanks at SF and Caracter at PF.. then Gomes is the vet they need to shore up SF/PF.

-EDIT: The Celtics love him... he'll be back with them 99% sure.

i'd love for the lakers to get him, but i think he'll def. get a lot more than the minimum from someone. he's a really solid role player off the bench.

Dude is spotty, wildly inconsistent and is limited offensively. If the Blazers don't need him or feels he can help them.........why the hell should we pick up scraps ?

Let some loser team save him, we're not in the business of reviving ex Celtics careers. It's a reason the T-Wolves involved him in that trade.

He'd be a definite upgrade over Ammo and Walton. And he seems like a character guy.

Huge Ryan Gomes fan. But it's not happening. I like how you say that he'd be a huge upgrade over Luke Walton but, in case you forgot, Luke Walton is still on the roster making 6 mill a year. Not to mention, they just drafted an SF in Ewbanks. This team has 3 decisions to make ...

1. Who is coaching?
2. Are we keeping Bynum/Odom or S/T for one of the elite players?
3. Which veteran PG/SG is taking the minimum (barring we don't get one in a trade)?

Ryan Gomes shouldn't even be a focus right now.

They waived him because if they didn't they'd be on the hook for 3 years of guaranteed salary at about 4 million per.

That said, I'd take him but there are a lot of guys I would rather have that would come just as cheap.

That whole Sign/Trade thing probably isn't happening because no team would want to be the one who created a an unstoppable monster.

If we do it'd be Odom or Bynum, but not for one of the HUGE FA's, I could see an Odom for a Josh Howard + Blake combo or something.

O really? Seemed to work out just fine when we picked up ex Celtics like Rick Fox and Brian Shaw.

Yeah really.......difference was they were much better players. Gomes is garbage, you guys have to stop going goo goo gaa gaa over every guy that's thrown to the streets. The reason's I listed is proof enough he's not worth the time. He's a lesser killed version of Ron, plus he's too inconsistent and doesn't do any one thing great.

The man has NEVER shot over 50% in his career and he plays in the front court, he's put up numbers on bad teams, hasn't grabbed 500 rebounds in a season yet, and plays like a guard instead of a 6'7" 250 lb forward. A quarter of his shot attempts come from the 3pt line instead of in the interior.

If we're going to think about getting another forward it's needs to be an interior guy. We don't need another guy built like Ron launching from 3......Ron is enough.

Ryan Gomes has been released by the Blazers after being traded from Minnesota on draft day. I have always liked this kid's game. He is solid on both ends of the floor, and is also one of the tougher and more physical small forwards around. I can recall several games in which he caused the Lakers problems. I was particularly impressed with how he never gave an inch to Kobe. If he can be had for just a portion of the MLE, IMO he would be a good addition off the bench.
