Shannon Brown To Opt Out

Post#1 » by MagicMamba88 » Mon Jun 28, 2010 9:12 am

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0628-lakers-shannon-brown-20100628,0,2653626.story

As for Brown, the 6-4 reserve guard will opt out of the final year of his two-year, $4.139-million contract by the June 30 deadline, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Sunday.

"My guess is he's probably going to become a free agent," Bartelstein said.

Brown signed the two-year, "biannual exception" last year with the Lakers. He made $1.990 million last season and was due to make $2.149 million next season.

The Lakers own his "early bird" rights and could sign him for up to five years and as high as the mid-level exception; the current mid-level exception pays $5.8 million in the first year.

Love Shannon's dunks and highlight reels, but just say no to overpaying him.

You have to understand that Farmar and Brown will be going for the money. They are no superstart and they dont have many big contracts left. So i say go for it.
One year of Kobe contract is more then i think Farmar and Brown will make together for the rest of there basketball lives.
I say some one will give Brown a 3-4m a yera contract and some one will give Farmar a 3m a year contract.
We will just try to get Blake, Bell and M. Miler

all about the cash .... farmer is def gone cause he wants more of a role within a team...

brown i think would stay but possibly wants a longer contract... which i dont have a problem with as long as we dont overpay him like we did with walton and sasha a few yrs back...

Indeed. The guy sucks. Him and Farmar leaving only improves our chances of signing Bell and possibly Redick/Miller.

This offseason is going to be unlike any other. Lebron James is holding the NBA hostage it's incredible.

I know he's just a fan, but when asked about courting LBJ, Adam Sandler said I like another guy with a sweet personality...Dwayne Wade.

I agree, Wade should be just as coveted, he's nearly forgotten because many assume he's staying in MIA, but if one team got LBJ & Bosh, how is it not nearly as good of a get if another team gets Wade & Amare.

Dirk as well, again assumed staying, and loyal, but you never know.

However if one of these teams gets LBJ & Wade, holy smokes that's gonna be quite a tandem. LBJ & Wade could ballhawk, and hack the shi* out of people and nothing would be called. They'd coast to the finals.

If you guys didn't watch the draft, GM's were just dumping players salaries and picks in trades and throwing people off the team to make room for one of these coveted FA. Normally GM's are so cautious and calculated, it was like a fire sale at Nordstrom's, 75% off EVERYTHING!

Some of the rosters have 2-5 signed guys, they can't even field a starting 5 if the season started today, lol.

It's going to be a really interesting July once FA begins, and an exciting offseason, probably the best ever. It will rival the NFL's interest with nearly breaking stories day to day well into the offseason.

It's so unstable, the Lakers got to be a part of the reason why these teams are acting so rash, along with the economy, and the big FA: LBJ, Wade, Bosh, Amare, Dirk, JJ, etc.

Mitch has gotta feel pretty good, there's a chance he'll keep both draft picks, most draft experts said the Lakers had the best second round of any team and gave them an "A" grade.

Mitch will be sipping champagne in a month, after a few tough decisions and a few signings, as many of these GM's will be losing their hair, getting little sleep, and chugging Mallox trying to complete their rosters.

For the Lakers, it's business as usual...Go Lakers!

this made me laugh because if one thing is fo sho is that where ever Lebron goes they won't win the chip (see Cleveland). the smart thing for teams is to plan on not getting Lebron.

No way Brown gets 3-4 mil. If he does get that then good luck to him where ever he was given that offer because I don't think the Lakers would match a 3 - 4 mil a year offer for him. I think Farmar at 3 million sounds reasonable because in the right system I think Farmar can be efficient.

I do agree that if Brown and Farmar are both gone the Lakers are freed up to bring in some new faces. I feel that a couple of new role players could do this team a ton of good. Looks like were just going to have to sit back and watch how this one unfolds.

hopefully someone overpays......maybe this will lead to Vujacic getting more PT and raising his stock so we can trade his expiring arse at the deadline....rather spend whatever money mgmt. is thinking of spending on miller/blake duo.

Okay I have read on a few sports Blog that Shannon Brown might get overpaid to leave Lakers.
I have also read on NBA.COM Farmar is not expected to be overpaid or its not likely that he will be.
Would this mean that we may loose Brown but still retain Farmar? How crazy would that be the majority of us had signed Farmar off already.

Okay I know this is about Brown. But J. Adande mentioned on ESPN.com that he could see a scenario of the Lakers moving Odom to pick up a top tier free agent (PG). I think if Brown leaves that kinda nicks that talk wouldn't you think?

Well judging from the exit interview it is obvious that Farmar's heart is somewhere else and Mitch and Phil respect that. That leads me to believe that if Farmar receives an offer somewhere else the Lakers might just let him go and not match it.

the lakers aren't going to even have a choice of matching it cause i doubt they offer him the qualifying offer, which is required to make him a restricted free agent.

I like Shannon's energy and athleticism, but he has to go regardless. For all his physical tools he's average at best defensively and he's awful on offense when he's not getting set up or if there's a fast break. Dude is a straight up chucker settling for those bad jumpers 90% of the time and has subpar floor vision and ballhandling. Fish is old as hell and he matched him in suckiness in the regular season. And compared to playoffs superFisher, Shannon Brown was a joke.

Thanks Shannon for what you've done for us but we need to upgrade next year at that backup 1/2 position. You came through for us when we needed you.
